Oshawk Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Hello, I have a situation where I have ~650 layers, all well named that I need to search through quickly to hide/show for different permutations of an image. Is there a way I can either sort the layers alphabetically to find them more easily or search for them. Thanks. X-Raym, M-rivers, Markio and 11 others 12 2 Quote
Staff Gabe Posted April 5, 2018 Staff Posted April 5, 2018 Hi @Oshawk, Unfortunately, we do not have a search feature for the layers panel. Sorting the layers alphabetically would not be possible either It would be more of a manual search. Thanks, Gabe. Oshawk 1 Quote
Oshawk Posted April 6, 2018 Author Posted April 6, 2018 @GabrielM ok, I ended up exporting the file to an SVG and then used the search functionality in Inkscape. I would really like this feature or at least some scripting support so I could implement it myself as I will probably need to use it a lot in the future. Thanks. JuBe 1 Quote
cadobir Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I second the request for a feature to search and/or sort layers by name, type (pixel or adjustment), blend mode, etc. For my work it's critical. den4ik, qwz and JuBe 3 Quote
gdenby Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Yes, a good feature request. I often have hundreds of layers, and scrolling thru them can often be quite difficult. So over to features request. angelhdz12, cadobir and Clayton King 3 Quote iMac 27" Retina, c. 2015: OS X 10.11.5: 3.3 GHz I c-5: 32 Gb, AMD Radeon R9 M290 2048 Mb iPad 12.9" Retina, iOS 10, 512 Gb, Apple pencil Huion WH1409 tablet

terentyev Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 And has this ever been fulfilled? Same story here. Over a thousand layers, all named. Need to quickly find the necessary ones. cadobir and FoolsErrand 2 Quote

Surely there has to be some way to implement this feature. Would be extremely useful in examining the samples provided for enabling items in groups that are properly named and would increase learning and workflow/sharing. Some way of keeping track of every object in the scene and being able to reference it would be worth the time to integrate it. JuBe 1 Quote

I agree that a search function or even some more managing options would be good. But as it is at the moment this is not easily possible. The layer's order is their stacking order. If a reordering (e.g. by type or name) would actually reorder the actual order of the layers it would completely ruin the design. In my opinion the only way around is is to introduce layer properties or labels (whatever they are called) that can be searched and filtered independently of the actual stacking order. But this would need additional programing. It's not as easy as it looks. Cheers, d. JuBe and elguapo 1 1 Quote Affinity Suite on Windows (V2) and iPad (V2). Beta testing when available. X-Raym Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 +1 please ! Even a simple Filter layer by name field would allow saving tons of time. I have to look for all layers with name rect_ID where ID was a random number, the current Select object by name function couldn't be used. :S Quote
bures Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Sorting, filtering and searching should be added to the layers panel. Quote

This is probably a "need to have" -- I would switch off Affinity Designer for almost anything that had that functionality. Figma makes search easy. But, it alas doesn't have some of the wonderful bells and whistles. To boot, I can't find any good tutorial on how to ideally organize large files for manageability. Quote
Hannana Wafda Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 It's 2024 now and this feature is still not implemented. I'm starting to question Affinity team innovation and development. I love a competitor of Adobe, but I got to admit, Adobe has proven to have more features from time to time. Quote
josbin Posted March 5, 2024 Posted March 5, 2024 Please check the State Window, there you will find options to search for layers by name, color, style etc. Quote

If Serif is really struggling with a lack of resources, and we're waiting for the Canva acquisition to bring more resources, why not implement old critical requests that are obvious shortcomings in Affinity, and which customers have been suffering from for nearly 10 years? Believe me, it's really something you notice as a clear and critical deficiency when you come across Affinity after using other programs. ronnyb and JariH 2 Quote I simply no longer believe that there are any professional graphic designers here.
