Staff Ash Posted February 8 Staff Share Posted February 8 Apps: Photo and Publisher Platforms: Windows and macOS The measure tool which was added to Affinity Designer in V2 is now available in both Photo and Publisher. This is not included in the default set of tools when you first run up the app, but you will find it in the list if you go to View -> Customise Tools if you wish to add it to your available tools. RM f/g
Thanks, one of the things I was hoping for. It would be even nicer if we could read the measurments from the transform panel (as well). Petar Petrenko
It would be nice all missing tools from Toolsbar to be included in it by default, otherwise how we (and new customers) could now if such a tool exist or not? ronnyb

I would think this is not how it is supposed to be but rather due to the fact that we are in a beta process where things are not quite finished yet d. Most likely they haven't had the time to add them in with default keybinds. Not the first time that a new tool has gotten added to the toolbar at a later date. Also, if you are already using a customised toolbar it will not appear, so there's that.
Staff Patrick Connor Posted February 17 Staff Share Posted February 17 I'm not sure the measure tool should be on the default toolbar for Photo. Arguably a useful default for Publisher, but surely only customizable/addable for Photo Quote Patrick Connor Serif Europe Ltd Latest V2 releases on each platform Help make our apps better by joining our beta program! JhonatanS
I believe it could have a Convert to Curves option, That transform the measure in editable shape, or at least save temporary on screen while you do others things like mentioned above StuartRc

If it’s created as an editable object, it will be easy to hide or delete it (or set a general preference for it not to appear) where it’s unwanted. ronnyb 1 Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/ProAffinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 15.7.5 (iPad Air 2)
Staff Ash Posted February 17 Author Staff Share Posted February 17 If we do it, it will just be an option to whether you want to convert the measurement to an object or something along those lines. And should say to set expectations this will not be what could be considered a full dynamic dimension tool or anything, but clearly the convenience of just leaving the measurement on document would be welcomed. Out of interest one use case we are aware of are some universities using Photo to edit / enhance imagery taken by microscopes. The measure tool is going to be very useful for them, as once scale is set then can us to take measurements - which might be parts of an insect, or down to distance between individual cells in some tissue. But yes use cases are less in photo which is why we are not including the tool in the toolbar by default. It’s also useful for UI work, calling out dimensions in px, or for gis measuring miles/km on sat astro/photos, etc. Units should be user defined, not only digital/print units Alfred and Frozen Death Knight 2 Quote 2021 16” Macbook Pro w/ M1 Max 10c cpu /24c gpu, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Ventura 13.1 2018 11" iPad Pro w/ A12X cpu/gpu, 256 GB, iPadOS 16.
4dimage
beta 2.1.0.1706 Good so far! Any reason why only the distance tool is available ? Can't find the area tool in Publisher or Photo (as with Designer).
