Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.3.5.4)

Recommended Posts

Yeah those are nice shortcuts! I just set Break Curve to Tilde ( ` ) and Join Curve Shift + Tilde (~)

BTW, shouldn't it be Join Curves (plural) instead of Join Curve (singular)? After all Joining happens with two curves, not one, otherwise there would be nothing to join, unless we are referring to Closing a curve, but that's a different operation....

No problem, I'm sure we can sort that out - it's a good idea :)

Just seen, you’ve added customisable shortcuts for Break Curve and Join Curve … wow …

Would it be complicated to make them work for the Pen Tool as well? That would be very convenient (you know, we can temporally switch to the Node Tool from there, holding the Cmd key) …  :)

- The Move Tool can now be told to move an object, but not children of that object: It’s an option on the context toolbar and will only show up if you have a non-group object selected which has children (a curve which clips a number of other curves, for example).

Oh yeah! I love this lock children tool. It will be handy for printing purposes.

Hi Clayton,

It wasn't removed. It's a bug. This is happening with all shortcuts that cycle trough several tools.

It should be fixed soon.

Ah, good to know. I just found what might be a related bug: modifier keys for some extended characters aren't working (e.g. option-R for ®).

Both of these are now fixed for the next beta! :)

option up and option down do not work in the Beta any longer to increase or decrease text spacing.  Just noticed that option left and right no longer work either to adjust spacing.

Both seems to be working fine here. You must be in text editing mode to use them. Have you changed the default shortcuts or something?

 BUG report

i can't rename at "Rename Fill ..." at "Swatches tab"

with ver. 1.3.5.3     I can do this.

Thanks @mogu. Issue logged to be looked at.

Although it was rather hard to figure out where to find them, I'm super glad PMS colors found their way into AD.

I also found that several pdf export bugs are now fixed. Thanks a lots for that!

One question though, related to PMS colors: is there any way to mark an object (with a PMS color) as overprint? (no white background if the object is omitted in the printing, by color).

- Numerous improvements to vector import / export - especially for PDF/X.

One improvement I'd highlight is that embedded documents may now be exported as vectors. There are lots of caveats: they need to be the same colour space as the host document, not use blend modes etc in a way that might affect parts of the host document below them, and not have a white background. Also the host can't give them global opacity or a blend mode, use them for clipping etc. Newly embedded documents now default to a transparent background, so the simple case of, for example, embedding one SVG document inside another should just work.

This applies to SVG, EPS and PDF export. There are more improvements we plan to make in due course, but this is a start.

Purpose: Features / Improvements / Fixes

Status: Beta

Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer

Mac App Store: Not Submitted

Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

Notable changes:

- Added support for Pantone colours - including PDF/X import and export.

- New blend mode - “Contrast Invert”. Try typing some black text over a gradient black->white area and choose this blend mode.

- Fix for incorrectly exporting the opposite of what the user requested with the ‘1x’/‘2x’/‘3x’ options in Export Persona.
- Fix for documents with Pixel unit types incorrectly loading into the Mac App Store version (just open your document and save it again in this version to fix).

- Keyboard shortcuts should now work properly for view zooming and are now properly saved for tools.

- Certain adjustments (Levels, Curves, Channel Mixer) can now be applied in any colour space - so you could add a LAB curves adjustment to an RGB document, for example.

- The Move Tool can now be told to move an object, but not children of that object: It’s an option on the context toolbar and will only show up if you have a non-group object selected which has children (a curve which clips a number of other curves, for example).

- Numerous PSD export / import improvements - Some fixes that should help create PSD files that FCPX and Motion can import.  Fixed import vector masking issue with subtractive masks.  PSD export can now export efficient flat image which decreases files sizes for flat RGB images)..

- You can now double click the empty view (with no documents loaded) to load a document.

- Numerous improvements to vector import / export - especially for PDF/X.

- Numerous Help improvements.

- Numerous minor bug fixes.

Thanks for the latest Beta update.

I have noticed that many past and current updates focus a lot on what I would call 'specialist requirements' but there seem to be fewer that apply to direct drawing and the improving the Interface. Can you say what drawing related features you are currently working on to improve?

Just the Pantone support is adding a great value to the app. Just wondering. I don't know if it is me. What would be nice is a way to know what Pantone colour is applied instead of wondering.

Like AI when you select an object you know what colour is the fill or stroke even if is a Pantone.

It's me and then i didn't see anywhere what it telling me or is missing?

Best

Both seems to be working fine here. You must be in text editing mode to use them. Have you changed the default shortcuts or something?

MEB,

Prior to this latest beta, I could just select a text box with the move tool and then I could make any changes to the text that I wanted using keyboard shortcuts  (ie. tracking,  leading paragraph spacing, etc.).

With this latest beta, I have to select a text box with the move tool and then I have to select all the text using Command-A before I can make changes to the tracking or spacing.

I haven't changed any shortcuts because this beta resets all shortcuts back to default.  I did notice however that when I try to get into the preferences and try to edit the default shortcut for Spacing-Tighten/Loosen or Paragraph Leading Increase/Decrease that they are set to the correct shortcut but when I clear the shortcut and try to change it back to the same shortcut option-left/right/up/down arrow, the program will only put the option command into the field and not the left/right arrows.

Does this have something to do with the modifier bugs that were introduced with this beta?  The prior beta worked just fine.

You are right. I don't think there is any way to currently tell if there is a Pantone colour applied to an object yet - we should probably put something in.

Pantone support gonna so useful to create polish in 5e colors !

I make some test, and its appears good in separation tools (acrobat).

Tommorow morning, i will make some test with the digital press (xerox color 1000) for the CMYK convertion. i will use a same fill with a same pantone generated with AD and AI.

Maybe to rip it with apogee prepress (if i got time)

So AD begin to be usable for print design. it's so good !

PS. it is poosible to make spot color ? for example, for die cut ?

Clém !
