arcnor started following Color picker works inconsistently when changing the Export Matte color , Scripting , Crop Tool improvements and 2 others

Adding my 2c, some features I'd like to be able to access through C/JS are: Import/Export capabilities (i.e. being able to write my own import/export plugin for any format), which both requires a way of adding a new file type to the open / save / export sections, as well as being able to read/write all the basic things other formats do, like layers, pixels / vector shapes, etc... Not sure if this has been discussed, but I'd like to be able to write a plugin that acts as an adjustment layer, unless that's already taken care of by being able to write a filter (which I'm also not sure will be possible, but I hope it will be). Undo/Redo support, hopefully controllable by my code, but whatever we can get otherwise (i.e. if I do a "move layer" then "clear selection", the API can automatically create undo states for both those actions, or it can let me mark a sequence of actions as an Undo/Redo point, which would be preferable as a plugin dev). I understand this is more of a "pie in the sky" kind of thing, but being able to write a plugin that interacts / merges with the Affinity Photo RAW importer will also be nice, some of the ideas I have to improve my own workflow relate to RAW importing, so it will be fantastic to be able to affect the process (i.e. by having access to the raw pixel data and being able to write my own contrast slider, as a very basic example).

Hangman reacted to a post in a topic: Exporting invisible text on Publisher v2
-
Thank you @Hangman, that makes a lot of sense. And thank you as well @MickRose, I think you still misunderstood what I was trying to do but I really appreciate you taking the time to help. Yeah, this is using the workaround above, because I couldn't find a better one. This is exactly what I want, and it's really sad it's not possible to make it work. I feel that playing with the color is not really a good solution, because there is not perfect matching between what the text shows and what the image below it has, so I guess for now I'll have to continue using the 1% opacity trick. But given your explanation of what PDFSandwich does, maybe I can create a tool that will preprocess an existing file and just replace everything with a glyphless font + CIDToGIDMap in the same way, I'll have to brush up on my PDF knowledge, but that should be doable (for next projects, as I mentioned I had to provide something for my client ASAP). Thanks again!

Hi @MickRose, my initial message has a test file attached already. As for what you mention, I think you might have misunderstood me. What I want is selectable invisible text on the PDF output, it has nothing to do with selecting in the editor itself (but I used those selection tools to perform the workaround, for sure).

Crop Tool improvements
arcnor replied to Ash's topic in [ARCHIVE] 2.4, 2.3, 2.2 & 2.1 Features and Improvements
Not sure if I'm missing something, but should pressing "Enter" to commit the crop part of the Photo persona on Publisher? Because right now it does nothing, unless there is something I need to activate first... -
Thanks for that workaround @David in Яuislip, I'll try it in V2 and report back. However I'd still like to know if this is a bug, or if there is a better way to do this because this workaround will have me modifying 200 pages by hand, which is also going to take a long time... Thanks again, really appreciate it!

Hello, I'm trying to edit a document created by `pdfsandwich`. What this tool does is generating invisible text on top of a scanned page so text can be searched & selected. I've tried to export this document to PDF, but after doing so the text is nowhere to be found (I've reimported the PDF into Publisher, and only the images are there, there are no text layers nor text as curves or anything similar). I've also tried creating a document (attached) with invisible text (both by setting the font color to invisible as well as making the layer itself invisible). I was expecting all text to be selectable (Test 1, 2 and 3) but I can't make it happen. The only PDF export feature I can think of that might affect this is "Include Invisible Layers", which is marked. If this is some sort of bug, does anybody know of a workaround? I need to release this to my client as soon as possible, so hopefully I don't have to start from scratch... untitled.afpub

You are right, rasterizing the layer makes it work, which I guess is what I managed to do at some point in the past. However, I'd still say this is unexpected/confusing. I'd rather have Affinity Photo say "Cannot cut/copy/whatever because layer is an image with special properties" rather than doing different things. Thanks for your response!

This happens all the time and it's HIGHLY annoying. I've managed to "fix" it at times, but I don't even know how, which is not great... Create a new document. From the Windows Explorer, drag and drop an image file on your new document. Select the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" and make a selection with it. Press Control+X or select "Edit/Cut" (or Control+C to Copy, "Edit/Copy"). Instead of doing the expected thing (cutting the selection) it just cuts the while layer (it disappears from the Layers panel). If you copy instead, same thing but the whole layer is again copied. Flattening the image makes this work as expected, but this is not an usable workaround for obvious reasons...

This is a minor issue, but a bit annoying: Open or create a new document File/Export On Advanced, click on the Matte color With CMYK selected on the color picker (it happens with other color spaces, but CMYK seems to be worse) click a single time on the middle of any of the color bars (C, M, Y or K) When doing this, the color flashes for a second, but the color bar returns to its previous color. If you drag instead of click the color will change. This doesn't happen when using the color picker in the normal document. My guess is that it's caused by the export preview stealing the focus, so the color picker resets.
