Shadows & Highlights in Raw

Recommended Posts

Dear Affinity-Team,

Regarding the Shadows & Highlights function in the Raw Persona; please solve the "shadows-problem".

Currently it is simlpy useless! Using the Shadows slider, the shadows in a image will be simply clinched together (have a look on the histogram) which causes a horrible black and grey sludge.

Please check this out and change the algorithm for that. It's possible to make a workaround by using Exposure, Blackpoint, Brightness, Contrast and Clarity, so it shouldn't be a big deal for you smart guys ;)

I know there are also other threads for that issue, but in your own interests, this weakness is one of the most discussed problems of the AP raw converter in many other forums (the other big issue is the load time of the raws, which improves version by version :)).

So, please have a look on that... Thank you very much!!

+ Shadows & Highlights works very incorrectly. It is almost impossible to use it. One of the raw development modules that requires substantial refinement.

Agreed. The dev team should now concentrate on the improvement of the RAW module before they start to develop Affinity Publisher or other things. Better one or two "finished" products than 4 half-finished. The time to gain really lots of customers due to current "Adobe subcription issues" is EXACTLY NOW. Its too late in 3 months.

This one was reported before. I think the problem is that those sliders manipulate the levels and not the exposure. I have to use an other tool to develop my RAW files for the time being.

More info as well as a workaround in this topic:

Hi, this is something we're aware of and will be addressing in a future patch.

Hey, the new Shadows & Highlights in the latest Mac Beta is already highly discussed in the social media and the feedback is very positive!

Especially the new shadows recovery works absolutely great now and get a fantastic review. Well, the highlights recovery is better now as well, but still potential for improvements.

Can't await to check it out on my Windows machine.... ;)

It will be in the 1.6.2 beta, as soon as 1.6.1 ships.

Can we expect it for the iPad version as well? I saw the Mac beta in action on YouTube and the shadowslider kicks ass super excited :)  (Sorry I hit the report button, was an accident, thought it’s repost)

sorry for the late answer, I had to seach it again (watch to much youtube hehe) Its in German.

A little explanation, first he does it in Photoshop, after that he does it Affinity (Current Version) and the last one is in the Mac Beta. I like how he makes a drum effect before he uses the Shadow Slider since its really something many people are looking forward too :) (oh just noticed you are from Germany lol)

The shadows improvement is still not available in the current Windows beta 1.6.2.94. At least I see no improvement.

Yes sorry that statement from me was wrong, it'll be in 1.6.3, which should be out today.

We did a quick 1.6.2 just to update the social media references, so it had no actual bug fixes in.
