  1. Hi Folks, I recently got my hands on a baseline Level Macbook Pro 13" 2017 and of course I purchased Photo. I love and use the Windows and iPad Version so now comparing all three platforms, I noticed how slow Affinity Photo is on Windows. (Funny thing my Windows PC has 8 Cores, 32 GB Ram and a GTX1060 with 6GB VRAM, while the Macbook has only 2, 8GB Ram and build in Iris Graphics.). Well to be fair its not really slow, its just that the Macbook and iPad App reacts almost instant, and for example when I do raw development and turn on chromatic correction my windows pc goes like and its there. On my iPad and Macbook its goes like 1.. done Same thing when I sent the RAW back to photos for further edits, its instant on the Apple Devices and on the Windows Machine it takes 5-15 seconds. (Makes mass edits almost impossible for me on the Windows Machine so I have to use Capture One for client work). I know Affinity Photos focus is not on Raw Development but are there any plans to fix this kind of behavior or did I miss a secret option somewhere in the preferences?
  2. I would go for an refurbished 10.5 iPad Pro. You can get it relative inexpensive with Apple Pencil 1 and an after market Lightning to SDCard reader. With the upcoming iPad OS 13 you can then finally access all RAW Files directly, without the need to import them first into the photos app. Most important, both Affinity Apps run awesome quick on that device. I edit often 24MP raw Nikon files without any hiccups. (To be honest its even faster then on my Desktop PC) cheers, Lutz
  3. Hi Patrick, I am on IPad OS 13, everything’s so far really smooth(beta and stable), just that I can’t import Assets, Brushes or Macros. I guess it’s an problem, apple has to fix, since so much changed in filehandling and sharesheet. Cheers, lutz
  4. Indeed you are right so many awesome new additions. One little question, can you import brushes into the Affinity Apps Paul ?
  5. O.k. now I am surprised no crashes the whole evening. AP Apps run like on IOS 12.3.1 just the bug or flaw that when I paint over my 24MP Raw files, the strokes are super laggy. (I had that with 12.3 also) My Lightning SD Card Adapter works and shows up in Files App. Thank you Apple, oh my gosh what a relief finally!!!! The only thing I noticed that a lot of Apps are not recognizing the external source. When I want import files and choose from "files" the SD Card Reader doesn't show up even in Apples own files App. External File Browsers dont recognize the reader also, but I am sure there will be updates coming soon. One little thing bothers me, the App Store now shows the App Updates in a kinda weird form, no extra Icon anymore at the bottom, you have to press on your profile picture in the top right. I would give it a go. For a first public beta it runs pretty smooth.
  6. yes you can. Affinity Photo uses the Apple Raw Engine so when your Camera is supported by Apple, it should work fine with Affinity Photo. I was just thinking what feature you dont have on the iPad and after they added finally hex Color support in 1.7.1 I am kinda lost of what to wish for next. I think you cant record macros if I remember right, just import them from the Desktop Version. With iPad OS the restrictions are gone anyway so if you are used to iPad I would go for it. (Just maybe buy the 2017 Pro Model if you travel a lot, I wouldn't trust that weak construction of the 2018er pros at least without AppleCare )
  7. Thanks for the Info, want to install it but I really need those 2 Affinity Apps to work lol Specially the File Handling like DM1 mentioned is something I really looking forward too, guess I will be shaking a bit while inserting a USB Flashdrive. Ah well, might install today after work.
  8. guys thanks for the keynote, totally surprised how well the Studio Link works. I was really not expecting it so freaking fast even here on windows. Already working with it for a couple of days now, designing a Photo-book for friends and becoming more comfortable to use Publisher at work also like Designer and Photo already. Hoping for an InDesign file support that would be next level. By the way I had zero crashes yet and due the Photo-book I switched quite a lot between the Apps. Totally game changer. Looking forward on what coming next.
  9. its coming guys, just installed the latest beta on my iPad. This is why we switched to Affinity. Its not just a addon for hex input its a complete new studio pane.. big thanks serif team for your work and attention to details, super happy :) (Also I admit the lack of it made me whenever I can switch to RGB Values in Webdesign, since it gives you more control in general and also adds transparency)
  10. +1 I agree with this one. The Color Studio could be a bit different. Hex Color is still missing in action. Also copy and pasting values would be great.
  11. Could you provide me the secret Info on how to copy settings in Lightroom Mobile on lets say 100 photos? (without the Desktop Version, maybe I missed that feature on my iPad) Also I would like to export a 16Bit uncompressed TIFF from Lightroom Mobile to preserve all the information in the RAW File. Only 2 jpg export presets you said? well well, it feels a bit like Adobe is holding back on purpose. (Until Photoshop arrives probably at Adobe Max this year lol) You compare Lightroom with a Photoshop like app. Also the Version of Photoshop coming to iPad is not the Desktop Class Version like with Affinity Photo.
  12. There is no measurement Tool afaik in AD. But you can use a rectangle and turn snapping on. When you expand the rectangle AD on iPad shows you the dimensions.
  13. o.k. so its like in Affinity Photo on iPad where I do miss the hex colors as well. I know its kinda obsolete since browsers support rgb color values and transparency even. I would only need it for input since I convert a lot of design flaws of the last decades(thanks to internet exploder) to the present age. Would be a nice to have but is clearly not stopping me from using it. Oh and no it did not crash that morning. I really tried to test it to the extreme had both AP and AD open copy paste fest at its hardest and no crash.
  14. Hey guys, I had not the time the last weeks to go very deep, but one thing I noticed designing a Logo for a Client in Affinity Designer on the iPad. Is there really no hex color support? Or do I overlook it somewhere? I mean I can work around and convert all the hex colors clients trough at me, but its a little well a hassle cheers, and congrats on the amazing Affinity Designer for iPad start, not one single crash until today. Lutz
  15. Hi Miltrin, For large files like your Tiffs I would use an App called Photosync. https://www.photosync-app.com/ It has an companion App on Windows and Mac. (I have an Windows PC so I use this) Do you have an Mac? Then you could use Airdrop on the iPad to transfer the files to you Mac as well. https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht203106 The IOS and MacOS of Affinity Photo are almost identical. AP on iOS gives you the same high quality output like the Desktop Version on Windows and Mac. cheers, Lutz
  16. Hi and welcome to the Forum. Since Apple doesn't offer much well choice, if you have the money I would buy the iMac Pro. With the smallest CPU and 32GB Ram. (The 64GB Ram option comes with an in my opinion insane additional charge.) With that machine you should be good the next couple of years. And Video editing is also possible with ease. What I also highly recommend is to checkout the iPad Pro. Its crazy how good Affinity Photo works like a charme on it. With the Apple Pencil its I think the perfect combo not just on the go. cheers, Lutz
  17. Hi LLM, merge the visible, is like you press Ctrl-Strg-Shift+E on a PC it makes a new layer with all the edit of the underlying ones. Very useful when you want make for example Luminosity selections of the complete image. I think what you mean to reduce the file size is flat the layers. When you flatten all layers it will be only one layer left. (But then all layers will be lost after you save the file) cheers, Lutz
  18. Documents is really a helpful tool, and miles ahead of Apples own Files App. What I also can recommend after stumbling on it is Filebrowser, its not free but worth every cent. It has some more advanced features and I would use it only but it cant open RAR Files. (Documents can do that). Filebrowser can even stream to my Chrome-cast, wich is kind of a problem on iOS. If you want jpg and h.264 files go to Settings->Camera->Formats and choose "Most compatible". That will turn of this HEIF/HEVC Apple format. Also make sure under Settings->Photos->Optimise iPad Storage is not enabled. That can cause some problems with RAW Files. Pro Tip: If you have an friend or someone with Linux knowledge, let them install you an NextCloud Server. You will never look back once you get in running. Full control over your own data and the feature list of nextcloud with its tons of Addons is almost endless. (It cant cook coffee unfortunately ) cheers, Lutz
  19. I am on iOS 11.3 beta 5 still no problems, no Batterie issues, no nothing. It just works... (For future updates in case hehe, I know its weird but I like to running the betas, since it cleans up so much space each time it updates..that is really the only reason why I am on the beta, since I dont need iCloud Messages, and the new Battery health status is not for iPad, at least I dont have the menu like I have seen on iPhones.) cheers, Lutz
  20. I just tried it and it works but just after opening the same file three times. The first two times the app doesn’t show the picture but Import it. When you use the photos app do you have optimised storage enabled in iCloud? Cheers, Lutz
  21. Hi, are you sure you have RAW Files you work with cause I have an Nikon and File Size L is for jpg not raw. Or do you shoot Raw+Jpg? Update: I just saw that newer models have different Raw Size as well, so that might not be the problem here. cheers, Lutz
  22. Hi Ken, my own Camera has only 12MB Raw Files, but I edit already 45MBs Raws from the D850 for clients, without any problems. What I also have often are super large PSDs like around 800Megabyte with multible layers, also no problem. Just make sure you have no other App open in the Background. One suggestion I would give you is buy the higher capacity iPad Pro with 256 or 512GB, the space will fill up like crazy. cheers, Lutz
  23. Hi Kasundan, make sure the pressure sensitivity is enabled, its not enabled on some brushes by default. The other icon below the pressure sensitivity button is for an transparency effect like watercolor. cheers Lutz
  24. I agree the Apple Adapters are way overpriced and I never buy them. I have a cheap SD Card Reader it works well, but only with the Apple Photos App. The Geekgo Adapater looks very good, but also no delivery to Germany. Since I am searching for a better way to store my files on the go and my iPad has only 64GB I will try this one and report back if interestet: https://www.amazon.de/Philonext-Speicherkartenleser-Kartenleser-Interfaces-Smartphones/dp/B073TZCHYW/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520322702&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Geekgo+USB+%26+Lightning+SD+Card+Reader+for+Apple+iPhone I also heard very good things about the Sandisk IXpand drives. Some Apps like LumaFusion has nativ support for this USB Drive. Downside is the price is a little high. cheers, Lutz
