Affinity Designer 1.8 New features list?

Interesting discussion, but let's keep it on topic here please - this is the forum for Affinity Designer beta on Windows ;-).
  2. Where you getting an error message?

    Mis-labelling a png file

How did you generate the PNG? Can you attach it here?
  4. The reference to DirectX 11 is the software which needs to be installed, but we also depend on DirectX 10 features on the graphics card. It sounds like you either have a very old GPU, or you don't have up to date drivers. Looking in the log file I can see a few relevant lines: Do you know what your actual GPU is?

    1.8.0.514 Canon 90d

Hi John, not sure why you're surprised that it wasn't included (I didn't make any mention of potential time frames or schedule in my response)? Having said that, we have added support for the EOS 90D which we are testing internally. Hopefully it will be available in the next beta release.

Question about a couple of the latest patch notes

Hi @Ron P., thanks for the info. We've been testing with Wacom Intuos devices internally and haven't experienced any problems. Have you looked in "Wacom Tablet Properties" and then click on the Pen tool, on the mapping tab, in order to see the "Windows Ink" checkbox? With regards to the buttons not working as expected, have you got any custom key mappings in the tablet properties?
  7. I've had a look at your crash, and it's crashing on IDXGIFactory2::CreateSwapChainForHwnd (Direct3D11) due to an E_INVALIDARG error result. Unfortunately I don't know why this is crashing, but I suspect an update to your graphics card driver is causing this (especially if it used to work). Without this function, we cannot draw to the screen, so we can't work around it. Can you confirm that this used to work in previous versions of Affinity Designer? If so, can you install a previous version and try that? If they also crash, then we can rule out the software and instead look at drivers or OS updates.

Question about a couple of the latest patch notes

@Frozen Death Knight | @ErrkaPetti, previously we used the WinTab driver for pen input for devices like Wacom, Huion, etc. This is a very old driver technology (pre-dating Windows 3.1!!), and since Windows 8.1, Microsoft have provided a new set of APIs for receiving high precision pointer input (Windows Ink). So, for anyone on Windows 8.1 or later, we will use these new APIs for receiving the input - however, there is the possibility that users have disabled Windows Ink in their tablet settings (e.g. in the Wacom settings panel). If this option is disabled, your pen will be treated like a mouse, and you won't receive high precision input, so it's important to ensure this option is enabled. For anyone on Windows 7, we will continue to use the old driver, as there is no alternative. If you have any further questions, please ask.

  13. I've replied several times on this thread, and other threads in the feedback forums. Here's a copy and paste of my response that I gave in the DXF export request thread: Unfortunately we don't comment on timelines for potential new features or updates, as it inevitably will lead to disappointment among some users if those deadlines aren't met. We want people to be happy with their purchases, so if that's not the case then feel free to reach out for a refund.
  14. Again, not something that will happen in the short term.
  15. The BSOD isn't caused by Affinity. User-mode applications are unable to cause a BSOD, only bad drivers, or faulty hardware. In your case, it's a driver for a cloud storage provider (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc). Cldflt.sys is a proxy for your real cloud storage driver, so it can be difficult to know which provider is at fault. Unfortunately you're not the only one affected (and we're not the only app affected) - http://www.google.com/search?q=Cldflt.sys+BSOD We have an FAQ relating to this issue -

    Performance issues

Try changing your renderer in Preferences to WARP and see if that makes a difference (switch it back after, because WARP should be slower). Also try a re-install of your graphics card drivers.
  17. We convert colours from document colour space to monitor colour space, so it will depend on what colour profiles you have chosen. Other software will most probably not do the colour conversion. Please let us know what your document and monitor colour profiles and we can advise further.
  18. Hi, we're looking at this new category of devices, and evaluating what to do. Nothing to share yet, but we'll let you know when we know more :-)
  19. Windows 7 is out of support in January (2020). We've committed to continuing support of the existing v1 apps on Windows 7, but from v2, we won't be supporting Windows 7 (not that we have any plans for a v2 yet). @sfriedberg, we have no requirement for Aero (which is just a theme), but we do have a requirement of the DWM. You can use the unsupported --no-dwm-warning flag to suppress the warning, but you may experience rendering problems and performance degradation. In this case, we will be unable to offer any support while that flag is enabled. Other users have successfully enabled DWM without using Aero. I believe @SrPx has made posts about this. Lastly, from Windows 8, the DWM is always enabled, you cannot disable it. It enables a completely new GPU driver model (which is why you may get rendering issues when disabling DWM on Windows 7, as it will fall back to legacy GPU drivers).
  20. The beta does start up slower as we perform more diagnostics.
  21. For the people that find the Preferences window to be "a mess", what operating system are you on? Just interested to know if you're all Windows users...
  22. What system files were corrupt? This indicates a larger problem with your machine.
