Change your Horizontal value to 2.0 mm for both the line and the star...

Yes, that is better:

But @Ash used .2mm in the example at the start of the thread.

I think the graphic and settings don't necessarily go hand in hand in @Ash's example, I used those settings when first playing and ended up with the same result you did...

Yes it's all down to the size of the original object. If your star is 5mm x 5mm and your step distance for copies is 5mm that will look very different to if your star is 100mm and your step distance is 5mm.

Unless it's taking its point of reference from the transform panel, i.e. 0° is horizontal, 90° is vertical. When first opening the Move Date Entry dialog its default setting is 0° so if it's designed to be consistent with rotation angles for the apps then technically it's correct...

It's clearly a bug in the preview of the special case of a straight two node Curve when Duplicate is disabled. Note that, in that special case only, the various fields (other than Rotation, which then appears to work in reverse) appear to have no effect in the preview, but all are correctly honoured when OK is clicked.

@ronnyb agreed - we’ll change that. Obviously has to come with caution if you select 1,000 objects and then duplicate say 1,000 copies you’re gonna hit performance issues, but should be left to user I agree.

Awesome, thanks @Ash!

It might be beneficial to disable the live preview (with notification on the Move panel UI) after a certain number of items (perhaps automatically-determined my one's CPU/GPU & RAM?) to avoid that problem while still allowing Designer to produce 10,000 duplicates at once, and avoiding the performance issues...

One thing that came to my mind when looking at your tests was that it would be nice if the duplicates could be sorted in reverse order. For instance, the original copy will always be at the bottom, but having the order reversed would put the original at the top of the stack, thus giving a different feel to the effect.

Agreed, I suggested a toggle to create the duplicates In Front/In Back.

Also I suggested slant and skew in addition to rotate to flesh out the transformation features.

Horizontal and vertical scale would let you create things like spirals with increasing object sizes.

[EDIT - added this one] Apply scale to offset would let you scale the offset in relation to the object scaling

And duplicate on every nth page would let you make flip books.

Noooo. On the contrary. Live preview should be added to many features in Affinity apps. Just like Xara has.

I have some suggestions:

- Add "Scale" feature and can be controlled scaled parts by "curves"

- Group the objects after using the feature by default

- Make this none destructive instead (if possible). I know we can use "previous settings" but it could be great if we could go back anytime we want to change the effects, even the shapes.

Is it possible to add option to group all duplicates after click on OK?

Possible, unlikely for 2.2 now tbh. In the meantime could group before, double click to select child and then do the operation so the duplicates do end up in a group together.
