Thanks Arba, that fixes it.  Didn't realise it was a setting as it came that way in 1.6.5.

Dave, it isn't my fault that you don't understand what beta or production means. If you stuck with the 1.6 version, it prompts you to update to official retail releases only. You manually installed the beta version from the forum, whether you understood what it was or not. I have fixed the problem in build 243, so if you wish to remain testing the beta version, upgrade to that, if not, I suggest you uninstall it and stick with the retail versions (currently 1.6).
For reference, here's the full disclaimer at the top of every single beta release page:
The disclaimer is not to be taken lightly.

I used "professional, industry standard, oh-oh-so-the-best" Photoshop and Illustrator for over 20 effing years. All my grown up life I am making a living designing stuff. So if this is not professional use of software then I don't know what is
I tried Affinity as soon as beta showed for Windows. I bought it soon after. After month of working on it I ditched Photoshop and Illustrator. I dont need it, simple as that. Designer and Photo fully replaced both of these ow-so-perfect-if-you-are-not-using-these-youre-not-a-pro aplications. And when I hear people crying about such silly little things as a shortcut then I think to myself - youre shouldn't be allowed to even mention professionalism if default shortcut is stopping you from working. Some people are just unable to switch, looking for excuses, giving some silly explanations. You dont want to use Affinity software? Then don't. But by claiming that Affinity isn't pro enough you are making YOURSELF look silly. I am immediately starting to think about this old saying "a bad workman blames his tools". It sounds like "I cant hammer this nail because look at this - my hammer is blue now. Can you imagine? How it can be blue? I had pink one for years and it worked perfectly. Plus this one has a rounded head! Not squared! This is ridiculous, such luck of professionalism! Give me back my pink, square headed hammer, I cant deal with it".
Silly, ridiculous nonsense. Sorry had to say that. Crack on

    Oval,
As is so often the case you are technically correct. It was not, as you say, explicitly said on the forums or elsewhere that we were not launching in 2018. However, if you follow the forums (which I think you do) you will see that many Affinity Publisher beta testers are telling us that it is not yet ready to be sold with it's current functionality. For example we are modifying master page object functionality to better meet customer expectations and our implementation of "linked" (monitored)  images is not meeting expectations either. So if we had launched with the current offering we would have been rightly criticised for not listening. So better that the free public beta continues for a bit longer while some of these extra changes are made than we launch now and are reviewed and found wanting for creating longer documents.
Also our file interchangeability means that Affinity Publisher (1.7) really cannot be launched until Affinity Designer 1.7 and Affinity Photo 1.7 are the current release, so it is dependent on those timelines also.
We have been using our flagship information site affinityspotlight.com to keep people abreast of changes and so if you want to know where we would most likely make any announcements then just monitor that.

For your reference as this seems to be confused often:
This is where I draw the line and would speak of "complaining up to demanding".
Not speaking of "feature requests" and "wishes" but "expectations" is for me personally a very big difference in tone like day and night.
A wish is "I need/want InDesign import", a feature request sounds like "I think InDesign import should be implemented because of (reasons)".
A complaint is "oh, this software has no indesign import. This is normal nowadays. So this is a failure. I expect you to bring it.".
Here the further development of the legacy range is demanded by saying "either you fulfill my expectations or you have to bring more updates to PagePlus".
And he demands to be given arguments why not ignoring all discussion that happened before. As if Serif has to explain themself.
One can ask "hey, do you know why... ?" or "can you please tell me...". Complete different story.
@peterterhorst Sorry for taking your post as a example to show what tone I personally feel as complaining. This is not meant to offend you. I do not critice you as a person, only the behaviour you show in this post (as receipt by me). I want to adress the complaining tone this topic can be read in you may not have been aware of until now. I'm sure you are a good person.

I find myself checking every hour or two if Beta is there Now - I know its silly, I know it will be there when they finish solving problems and thats fine. Thats how it suppose to be. But damn, Affinity got me actually excited about updates again.
When I was using software of that other, rental company (name of which starts with letter A too followed by D and O and few others...) I got practically immune to update hype because I knew theres  nothing interesting coming. Few changes to content aware, some gimmick, some bloat, further integration with their "cloud"... And new bill of course. But since I have discovered Affinity I find pleasure in working again. Even if it lacks some of the tools I was using before it has this.. something. I love working using Affinity software. So now... I am really hyped for 1.7 beta. Reading that list of changes again and again

I do not find that acceptable. This is time consuming, especially if you have multiple articles that are more than one text frame long. Additionally, if this product can't be as easy to use and robust as PagePlus, then why bother "down grading?"

@DanParsons: It seams that you are answering to @grapher as if he was representing Serif. He is not. He is just another forum user just like you or me. Serif staff have a "staff" mark by their avatar.  "unprofessional" would really not be the word I would use to describe how they meet users questions in these forums. Since there are _a lot_ of questions/requests, they are not always able to answer/comment every single one, though.

LMAO I know exactly how things work sunshine... and FYI I AM NOT "DEMANDING" ANYTHING... if you dont want to add it to the list for future implementation that is up to you. and its not only  my £50 it will be the many other professional designers who won't bother switching because your software can't even do the most basic of tasks. so jog on

...and I might not have a clue about "SW DEV" for Affinity Publisher but clearly you dont have a clue about customer care. Personal attacks against people trying to help your business is VERY unprofessional. Good day Sir.

I think we have received all the feedback we need for PagePlus import. I will end this thread by saying that if we did produce an importer we would wait until Affinity Publisher supports enough features that the importer would be better than our current PDF import. Sorry but that's best we can say at this time.

Well 001, DEMANDING something is not good towards software devs. Some functions are implemented, some are not, some are on todo list.

Dan - that your wife is software engeneer is good to know. On the other hand, you dont have a clue how things work in SW DEV, as i read your posts.  If you want to pay monthly fee to adobe, its your right and decision. But demanding something in FIRST beta release, well, i think that affinity will not miss your $50. It costs more to pay time for someone to react on your posts, and on coffee spent on healing the nerves...
    Have good day

Those are PhotoPlus videos, so the question is why didn't Serif include "Clear" in AP.  My assumption would be that it's not needed - you can use flood select and delete.

So given where we are I believe Serif need to concentrate on adding functionality and features to Affinity Publisher not a PagePlus importer, or else you would just be able to open your PagePlus documents in a new program that you don't wish to use or recommend either. I think you are asking for both improvements and an importer, but good developers are hard to get.

What were you expecting? "Edge" means the text will go inside the shape and outside the shape, while avoiding the edges of the same. That's what's happened here. It makes more sense with unfilled curves. Maybe you actually wanted what we call "tight", where the text stays outside the shape but hugs its boundaries?

Arba reacted to 000 in Comparing AD with DrawPlus
Jackamus, it's very simple: Affinity Designer and Serif DrawPlus are DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS.
Affinity Designer is not a ,continuation' of DrawPlus as such and Serif has been very clear about that.
If you need an application that does EXACTLY what DrawPlus does ... well, simply get DrawPlus (at just 20 GBP from www.serif.com) or use the license you have. No-one forces you to use Affinity Designer if it doesn't do what you need it to. If you cannot do your work with Designer, it's just not the right software for you, period.
In my opinion, Designer not doing what you want it to do is no reason to be disappointed.

    Hi Brian,
open the attached document and try to export each of the artboards. You will see that the green one exports to 1120 by 740 pixels, while the red one exports to 1121 by 741 pixels. Though both of these artboards have the size of 1120 by 740 pixels, the red one is positioned by 0.1 pixels in both directions off the pixel grid. Hence Affinity Designer adds one pixel to each side in order to be able to export the entire artboard contents.
    Hope that helps …

Another approach would be to take a real snow image and overlay it onto your image, mask & blend it then paint in where the snow should be visible.
You will also need to take into account the roofs and other "horizontal" surfaces where the snow may be lying.
