No worries Bustoville, you didn't make any mistake. We all need to start somewhere.
Thanks for the file. There's several ways to approach this. Here's one easy to follow
    - select the Pen Tool and draw a shape covering the inner area of the hexagon. To do this simply click on each "corner" of the hexagon with the tool until you complete the shape - see the clip below (no sound) then move this shape below the Outer_Logo layer. Fill it with the colour you want.

    - to insert an image/icon inside the shape, draw or import/place (menu File ▸ Place) the image/icon you want to use into the document and move it over the shape you just created. You may need to scale the image/logo to fit the inner area of the hexagon - to do this select the Move Tool, click over the image to select it and drag one of the corner handles to scale it proportionally.

Rick G reacted to 3drealism in A small but very IMPORTANT UI Issue
Hi, this is a small but important issue. I would like the tab at the top of the image clearly defined when it is currently selected. It shows as a lighter grey colour as opposed to a dark colour when images aren't selected and every time you have to stop and think which tab is currently selected. Also, the same problem occurs when masking. When in selection mode the current mode is black/charcoal. The UI needs to be consistent. I am not suggesting bright pink but it would work better than what it is currently. I would suggest something like a fine red or yellow outline around the selected tab or button, something that instantly recognisable.

    Hi Rick,

Next time it stops working could you take zip up a copy of the App Data folder for the Photo Beta please and attach it/send it to us please? Also when it stops working are you sure your context toolbar still says 'Current Layer' or 'Current Layer and Below' instead of 'Layers Beneath'?

    Hey all,

The Photo for Windows beta has proven incredibly popular, and I appreciate that, like with any software, there's a learning curve and the requirement to invest time in understanding the software's functionality and idiosyncrasies.

With no firm commitment to delivering them consistently (that bit is important to note  ;) ) I'd like to share some example editing/workflow videos. My aim is to demonstrate Photo's feature set and, hopefully, help viewers understand how the tools and features they're accustomed to using in other software can translate to Photo's implementations.

If you haven't caught them already, it's also worth noting that there's a huge set of video tutorials for Photo available at http://affin.co/PhotoTuts - around 165 at last count.

Hi Affinity team and good morning.

First of all I wish to thank you for working on this new long awaited update! Thanks.

I bought more than two years ago both Photo and Designer and globally I can say that I'm really satisfied with them.
Both are great software in many aspects with very good workflow that I daily use for my job.
I'm a software developer and I often leverage on Photo and Designer to create mock-up and UI for Android Apps and I also use them daily,  integrated into my whole 2d and also 3D pipeline.
Yes, in fact Designer is perfect when coupled to a 3D Nurbs software that I daily use, Moi3D, that is very powerful for creating also 2D vector graphics.
In this way I can combine the precision and the power of a Nurbs CAD with the versatility and the graphic capabilities of both Designer and Photo.

So, I repeat, I'm globally very satisfied with your software.

But, with said, I also must say that as a long time satisfied DrawPlus user, there are still TOO many features and important tools that are missing in Designer,
and that I'm asking for a long time on this channel

I'm referring to some features that really makes the difference in my daily job.

I hope that, along with bug fixes, you will include these long time missing features in the next official version of Affinity Designer, that I loved and used a lot in DrawPlus X8.

I mean, please include this missing features :

    1) Tracing images
    2) Knife tool : awfully useful !! It allow a superfast workflow. In designer we have to use Combine, Subtract end so on but it's not the same tings and the DrawPlus's way is times faster.
    3) Freeform Paint Tool : awfully useful !! It's much more advanced of the Vector Brush Tolls in Designer because it can handle separately the stroke and the fill.
    4) Erase tool :  awfully useful !!
    5) Flood Fill toll : awfully useful !! Why did you drop it in Designer ? This tool is very useful especially when importing tracing or other vector files created with other software.
    6) Envelope, Perspective  :  awfully useful !!
    7) SHAPE BUILDER TOOL : awfully useful !! Please include it into Designer. Again...it's not the same thing of using  Combine, Subtract end so on.
    8) Mesh Fill Tools  :  awfully useful !!
    9) Last but not least....MESH WARP TOOL (in vector mode) : Please add this very missing features.

I hope that you will take into great consideration these requests and I wish you all the best for you wok and your life in general

    Regards.

    Hi Marco (mkdm),
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Thanks for your words and support. Affinity Designer is not a direct replacement/upgrade to the previous DrawPlus software. It belongs to a new line/suite of software created entirely from scratch based on an new codebase so their features will not necessarily match. In any case a few items you have mentioned are already on Affinity Designer's roadmap and will be provided as free updates before v2.0 comes out (the roadmap covers the entire 1.x cycle of Designer). Eventually a few more will be added within the 2.x cycle.

Rick G reacted to harrym in [1.6.0.85] selection issue, menu oddity and general flashing
So anyway, Nutella and his merry band of morons decided to update my computer when I was in the middle of a batch process even though I've set what my working hrs are. I'm now seeing some strange letters in the top menu bar, they seem to have gone away for now but just curious as to what that is? More of an issue though is that I'm getting terrible screen flashing when loading an image I mean the whole program appears and disappears rapidly several times generally finishing with Windows Explorer which I've got open in the background opened on top of it. I've re-started my machine several times to try and stabilise it. I suspect the update.
Not sure if this is a different issue but I'm also experiencing selection issues. Adding and removing from an existing selection using the brush tool doesn't seen to be working. I notice that RickG has posted what may be a similar issue? Could someone check this please as it seems like a super basic thing to have an issue with so again that makes me suspect the update or me just loosing the plot
The other thing I noticed about selections is that having created one and doing nothing else except watch the marching ants the CPU is running away with itself. Is that normal?

Thanks for letting me vent I actually really do hate MS now

Thanks! I've reproduced on a Chinese install of Windows 10. I also noticed that Photoshop gives you an option to use English names or regional names (which for me was set to always use English) hence why I didn't initially see it.

I selected the sky in a photo., When I tried to mask it with quick masking (or use the refine button) the inverse was shown
When I tried to add a masking layer it was not added
Other odd things happened when trying to invert the selection
Gojng back to v 1.5 ans selecting / masking works as expected

Well, I've been at it at least as long digitally, and at least another decade before that. And I quite routinely move vector graphics to a raster program in all kinds of projects.
I would. For just one example, it would simplify the process of creating "halos" in technical drawings, where it is often needed on open paths, and one has to tediously construct extra closed paths as a workaround. But there are countless other opportunities for its use, especially in programs supporting multiple strokes on paths. Gravit Designer, for another current upstart, provides for it (although buggy at the moment). There's no reason why offset strokes (determined by path direction) shouldn't be just as useful for open paths as for closed. (And frankly, there's no reason why live offset strokes shouldn't be integrated with offset path commands. Why should live stroke position be limited to just centered, inside, and outside? I, for one, am weary of seeing new competitors in the stagnant vector drawing arena merely playing "me, too" to the limitations of Illustrator.
Exactly. Your experience doesn't set the desires, needs, or ingenuity of everyone else.
