NilsFinken reacted to Ash in 2.2 Release Candidate 3 (build 2005)
    Hi All,
We have now made available another update (2.2.0.2005) which is our third release candidate. This includes some important fixes which are listed in this post.
    Thanks,
    Ash

NilsFinken reacted to Chris Van Cleve in Vanish's Vault Resources
Many of you know me from the free resources I've provided through my company, DSV. I wanted to share with you all that I'm revisiting all of my resources and updating them, making sure to cover all the colors in my selected palette, correcting minor flaws (and a few major flaws), ensuring everything is named properly, etc. I am not releasing them through my company this time, rather you can find them on my Blog: V2 - Vanish's Vault.
To start off, I have redone the Metallic Gradients from gradients volume 1 with all 9 metals I have done so far, totaling 45 gradients. I also combined gradients volumes 1 and 2 into a single color palette and added all of the colors from my palette that were missing. 208 color gradients await your use.
Featured images for each from my blog are attached to save you from clicking through to see if you want them. I hope you find these as useful as the old versions. More to come!

NilsFinken reacted to Larto in Länderflaggen Pinsel und 3D Effekt / country flags brushes and 3d effect
Hallo Affinity Community, mit euch möchte ich meine Länderflaggen Pinsel teilen. Optimiert sind sie für's zeichnen bei 1% Abstand damit ein Streifeneffekt entsteht. Geeignet also für z.B. Texteffekte.
Fertig
    Viel Spaß

Hello Affinity community, i want to share my country flags brushes with you. They are optimized for round brushes by painting with 1% space to create a streakeffect. Because of some flags are unsuitable i had to edit them.
This packs contained 193 brushes + 59 with a second version, separated in 4 categories, translated into english and arranged in alphabetical order. All have a size of 500 pixel.
Tutorial for a 3D effect with additional fine lines like on my wallpaper:
    1. Choose a flag brush and set it to a size you like, for example 60 pixel on 2K resolution.
    2. Create a new empty layer and paint 1x time on it.
    3. Add "add noise" live filter and clip it on this layer. Set the value to around 25.
    4. Add "exposure" adjustment and clip it also to this layer. Set the value to around -2,5 and add a vertical (or other light direction you like) black/white gradient on this adjustment layer. Your brush dot is now bright on top and below dark.
    5. Duplicate the complete layer to save your original. Rasterize the duplicate.
    6. With active duplicate go to brush panel and click on "create brush from selection". Edit this brush and set space to 1%. The brush is now ready to paint.
    7. Paint on a new layer (or 2 if your lines cross each other like for letter A or H for a deeper 3D effect).
    8. Add layer effect (If you have 2 layers use 2 layer effects. Since Affinity 1.9 it is possible to link them.) "3D" or "inner bevel". I recommend a value of 25 - 30 when you paint with 60 pixel. Optional smooth the effect a little. For a round 3D effect use a round profil. Now only adjust your light direction to a similar like on step 4.
    9. If you use 2 layers you can add a shadow on the layer below to increase the 3D effect. Done
    Have fun

NilsFinken reacted to smadell in Affinity Photo from 10,000 Feet - Free PDF
I am attaching a free PDF called “Affinity Photo from Ten Thousand Feet.” This is a 41 page book that explains many of the concepts and questions that forum members ask frequently.
Much of the information is based on presentations given to my local photography club. Some of it is based on a series of articles written for the club’s newsletter. Much of the book is newly written material, based on years of working to understand digital photography, how color works, and how Affinity Photo fits into that picture.
Please enjoy the book. All I ask in return is that you look it over and leave a comment.

NilsFinken reacted to Dazmondo77 in Raster Vector comic hatch brush
Been a bit frustrated messing around with Pub 1.9.2.1014 just trying to use the basic (real) vector brush (Designer persona) with pressure switched on to do comic style shade hatching and having app freezes after a few minutes - so tried another approach - make a Raster Vector comic hatch brush which is similar brushes I've created in Clip Studio Paint, although, frustratingly, Affinitys brushes still cannot be true vector (unlike Clip Studio Paints) but thought I'd have a go anyway, mainly just to see if the freezing problem also effects the 'pretend' vector brushes - glad to say I managed to complete a bit of artwork without the freezing that I was getting at the beginning of the artwork using True vector brushes -
Really would love to have the ability to create 'proper, real, true, not raster' vector brushes - Also a blob brush - I could have made much better use of these in the piece of artwork:
Heres the brush for anyone who's interested

With these simple hatching styles you can hatch your vector objects in Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo. Affinity Publisher Beta seems not working yet (previews looks strange on my machine).

    DOWNLOAD: https://mensch-mesch.com/download/affinity-designer-schraffuren-hatchings/
With the red styles you can easily change the color of the hatching while using an adjusment layer recolor.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @cgomes.
An ‘Image’ category should be available in the Brushes panel when you’re in the Designer persona. If not, you can download the attached *.afbrushes file and import it via the ‘Import Brushes’ option on the Panel Preferences menu in the Brushes panel.

NilsFinken reacted to Seneca in Table styling - alternate row/column styles plus..
Hi @garrettm30, it's all done with Table Styles. Have a look at my file and at the View-> Studio->Table Formats (if it's not opened). Double-click Hosting Plans Table and explore the styles. Have a look at the table format on the left of the window. Observe where the Table Head ends and where the Table Footer begins (dotted lines) everything in between are the contents of the table. If you set the table this way the raws will observe alternating colour. I didn't bother naming most of styles, etc. But once you have table styles applied the alternating rows work as they should.

Definitely not practical here but maybe any later moment: the checkbox "No break" in Character panel.
With interesting position if centered or right aligned. And text selection/correction is hard to handle if it's in another column.

NilsFinken reacted to fde101 in Convert finished 2-page spreads to single pages?
If you are doing this for printing purposes, don't.  Instead, when you export the PDF, choose to export "All Pages" instead of "All Spreads".
This will do what you want at the time of export so that the design file can be kept in the generally more useful facing pages mode.

If you do need to split them in the Publisher file for some reason, I don't believe this is currently possible without some added manual work.  You would need to find all of the objects that span across the spreads and manually copy them from whichever side they wind up on to the side they were missing from.

These Brushes are a bit different from my usual offering.
    1. They are small
    2. Rely largely on setting the blend mode to Average (something I learnt from Sketchbook Pro!)
    3. Resize as you wish
    4. Updated to consider Affinity 02 Brush Dynamics
    5. Included samples of Base Textures

    1. These are essentially the same as the Pencil Brushes but with adjustments to the brush dynamics and less texture..There are 2 other sets that supplement these in the InkPainter Project set (Ink & Linear)
    2. Similar to brushes produced by Jake Parker for initial Inktober Project 2016

The missing font error is likely because of a missing font inside a document in your file, if you go to the Preflight options and untick to look inside embedded documents for the missing font check it should disappear

NilsFinken reacted to Solly in A perfect circle has 360°?
Welcome to the world of computer representation of rational numbers. Rounding will always take place somewhere. Here you see a 0.00000278% error. This topic of numerical representation was an active topic of discussion in computer languages, programming, and scientific calculations in my student days in the early 1970's. The answer to the problem was always, "what amount of error no longer makes a difference in the result for practical purposes?" To think of it another way, a 360 degree circle is an ideal that is approximated to any degree of precision. The more like the ideal, the more time and expense involved. A more precise measuring instrument is more expensive. Very few of us have need of a micrometer for everyday use around the house, but someone wanting to track paper thickness would certainly have one. There's nothing to see here, move along.

Inspired by a grey-scale design I saw on a stock vector website I decided to try and make a colour version of my own, and here’s the result.
It’s not the most amazing illustration ever made, by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m actually quite happy with my shadows this time.
All done in Designer, and a nice little practice exercise.

Have you ever tried to arrange objects in the layers panel only to loose them, and then find it nestled in a collapsed group of objects?
Ever try and move an object so it clips anther object and it ends up with an unexpected result?
Ever wonder what those enigmatic icons in the layer thumbnails are trying to tell you?

This guide is for anyone with those questions. From folks that are new to Affinity Products, to people who has been using it for years and struggled with the behaviour of layers.  This 3-page visual how-to guide will hopefully help reveal any or all of the cryptic layer mysteries!
The guide is in English for desktop versions of the products, designed the Windows version, tested mostly in Affinity Designer, but should translate well to Affinity Photo and Publisher.
