If you take a rectangle that already has rounded corners and convert it to a text frame, you can continue to adjust those corners after converting it.
Based on that, I agree it is a rather strange omission that you can't round the corners (or bevel them or whatever) of an existing text frame that did not start out that way.  I do hope this is fixed at some point.

To give some history on this one, it originally did.  The problem is that the scroll wheel also adjusts values in numeric fields, and users were trying to scroll through the panel and changing values randomly along the way.
Instead of fixing the problem of the values changing while scrolling, the developers took the curious and highly questionable step of disabling the scroll wheel (or equivalent) completely for the panel.
In my opinion, they should either arrange for the values to change only if the field has focus, or require a modifier to be held down while scrolling the wheel - either way, scrolling the panel should not happen at the same time as changing the values.
This has already been discussed at length in another thread that is floating around the forums somewhere...

In fact, I believe all of these requests have already been made on other threads, separate from each other (as they should be - including multiple requests in one thread is a bad idea).

They are not scared, they just don't want to waste time implementing it badly only to turn around and replace it with something better later on.  There are too many other things they can better spend that time on while they are figuring out how to implement a version of the feature that they can be happy with.

    Hi,
I'm pleased to report that we have implemented the Divide blend mode for Photo 1.9, which will enter beta in a few weeks time.
    Thanks,

This seems to be a regression from 1.7, were Authorise Global was not needed. I've logged it with our developers.

Don't forget it can be in the paragraph style decoration settings, and you won't have to move your lines each time you modify your text, and can in a bulk modify this line on all the titles when modifying the decoration of your paragraph style.

It is on the roadmap, so it will be coming, we just don't know when (other than that it will be sometime before version 2.0):

I've been wondering this too, and there does not currently seem to be an option for that.
It would be nice to have some kind of inspector for a symbol or a selected layer within a symbol that would show which attributes/properties are detached and have an option to resync them either by applying the change to the symbol and other connected members and connecting or by taking the value from the symbol and reapplying it to the current one, syncing it again or leaving it detached after setting the value once...
That said, at a minimum there should be an option to maybe right-click on a symbol and "Resync All Properties to Symbol" to match the symbol back to the original and set everything to sync again.
There is another thread where someone was asking for an option that would cause all instances of the symbol to be resynced to the original, which is not a bad option to have either...

You can actually do that with any of the handles that are along the sides of the object (not the corners), it is not limited to the one with the rotation handle.  Just place the pointer over one of the handles and move it away from the object slowly.

fde101 reacted to skylamar in Would Like Better Call-Out Shapes for Making Comics
When I was in elementary school (I'm decades older now), I used to spend hours each day drawing comics. My art skills were mediocre, but I had fun. A few years ago, I bought Clip Paint Studio, the Japanese anime/comic-book software, to play round with making digital comics, but I found the software unintuitive and so hardly used it at all.
Fast forward to today and I own all three Affinity apps. And I realized I could easily make comics with them, using Publisher as the main app for accessing all three.
However,  Affinity Designer's Call-Out shapes, which I would like to use as speech bubbles, are unnecessarily limited. The main problem is that the tail of the shapes can only be moved left and right. I wish the tail could be dragged to any position on the circumference of the shape.
Yes, I could easily create some speech bubbles myself, since they are basically just ovals with a triangle attached. And that's what I'll do. But it'd be easier to use the call-out shapes, especially if I were creating a comic with numerous pages.

I apologize for posting in the wrong forum. I'll go elsewhere.
I TOO am highly confused as to why when I drag the app to my Applications folder it is only producing an alias. I have never seen this before in all my 40+ years of computer usage. I believe I purchased the app directly off the Serif web site. I can USE the app, but it's always from an alias and I always have to keep the .dmg file open.

Thanks anyway. Sorry about the forum mistake.

I think that would be absolutely horrible and there would be nothing useful gained from it.
The iPad apps have a completely different UI and for good reason: interacting with an iPad is quite different from interacting with a Mac.
There is very likely a LOT of common code between them already so I don't think this would be of any real benefit at all.

It already runs on iPad which is ARM-based.
There are rumors that future Macs will switch to ARM processors so they might be forced into it on the Mac platform.
Right now there are limitations regarding supporting ARM processors on Windoze due to the UI toolkit they are using not working on 64-bit ARM processors.  There was discussion about this on another thread.  Because of that issue, if you ever see ARM support for Windoze, it will probably be a while as they may need to recreate the UI using another toolkit, which could be a fair bit of work.

When using the fill tool (called the gradient tool when in Photo) you can drag the gradient across an object to add one; when you click on one of the end points you can then use the color panel to set the color of that point, as well as making other manipulations directly over the artwork.

Personally, I think that Serif ought to use the syntax for its regex type and insert those codes versus these icon-looking things.
People who use regex often enough will learn the syntax and that will always be quicker than using a mouse to insert an icon symbol. An added plus is that it makes helping someone with a grep f/r on the forum easier.

It would be great if one could include minimal text with a macro for help and/or preconditions to run the macro. Then displaying the text as the hint when putting cursor over the macro name.
When writing one’s own macros they are more memorable but if you acquire them it’s helpful to have a prompt with details. I imagine we will all have many more macros as time goes on. Thanks for considering

Is there a way of switching OFF the smoothing on the Vector brush tool?
It makes freehand drawing a little too automatic for me. I want all the imperfections of my line drawing. ;)

fde101 got a reaction from pixelstuff in Publisher on Android
I don't believe for a minute that this as a blanket statement is true.  Android devices tend to be cheaper (in more sense than one) so there will likely be a greater proportion of Android users that are more interested in saving money and use the less expensive products, but that doesn't mean that ALL Android users are like that, or that they wouldn't be interested in superior options if they were available on the platform.
I personally have both an Android tablet and an iPad.  The iPad is generally superior in terms of its hardware and in terms of the availability of creative software, such as the Affinity products and various music-related apps and tools; however, some of the security restrictions in the app store make it virtually impossible to bring out certain categories of network/IT-related functionality, so for a tablet intended for doing any kind of network diagnostics (as an example), Android has a bit of an edge.  Each of them has its strong points.

True enough... although, why not also have the Revert menu item?  It's weird how Affinity is leaving out things like this, seemingly for no reason or benefit.
The history thing would work, but a Revert menu item (or button or whatever) would be even easier.
Interesting idea you have about the 'marker' in the list, where the last save occurred.  That actually would provide even more benefit than a Revert menu item, as it would show you what all changed since your last save.  Good idea!

    How so?

Serif defines this quite well on their web site:

Affinity Photo is a "photo editor" - thus it is meant for editing and retouching photos.  You start with a photo, and you edit it.
Affinity Designer is a "graphic design and illustration app" - you start with nothing and you create artwork.

Affinity Publisher, however, is oddly described as "professional publishing" software, even though it doesn't actually publish anything...  to publish something you need to distribute it; while Publisher can be used to prepare documents for distribution, it doesn't contain any tools to assist in actually performing the distribution.  It is really "page layout" software - so you take multiple somethings and lay them out on pages to create a final document, preparing it to be published by other means.
