Drag select not always selecting
MikeTO replied to MikeTO's topic in Other New Bugs and Issues in the Betas
Oh, I didn't know that, thanks. This is what happens when you don't use these tools for 25 years, you expect everything to work the way they used to. Turning this into a feature request, could there be an other option in Auto-Select? If Default selects only inside the parent layer, perhaps another option could be added to select objects on any layer, the way apps used to work? Thanks -

Using TIFF instead
user_0815 replied to eiketre's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I’m using ApolloOne as file browser (Mac only). It integrates with Finder metadata. So I can also perform searches with Finder or spotlight. An Advanced option is Pixlpath which has its own catalog. Highly polished and worth a look. It also shows the affinity previews. -
This may be a Canon Pro Print & Layout question as well as an Affinity Photo one, but I'd appreciate suggestions for the most efficient way to do that ^. I always need to make multiple smaller proof prints of my pictures before committing to a large-scale print (up to 43" x 59" on my horse-sized printer), but I often want to see small sections at their final size. The shop I used before getting my own big printer was able to do that with multiple areas in Photoshop, but I don't know what the trick was. TIA

It is going out to registered members of Canva. I used an email I don't normally use for signons to check their editor and this came into there. List of speakers: https://create-la-2024.canva.com/speakers Tons and tons of sales and marketing people (from different places). Bob Iger from Disney at top of list. Apparently he was on the Board. (Edit: I think it is talking about Disney, but not sure tbh...) No one from Affinity, but it would be really strange if it didn't come up at all.

Everyone hopes for that, but I'm too seasoned to sit through keynotes and other sticky marketing and one-way communication; I can make do with a brief written update. I need to feel improvements, quality, and continuity in the releases of the product I pay for and use. That's the only thing I will judge Canva on.

[V2 regression] Some curves behave weird inside compound
leshido replied to leshido's topic in V2 Bugs found on macOS
They were created long time ago so unfortunately I can’t remember exactly how. Can’t imagine it was anything out of the ordinary though, and admittedly most other compounds do behave correctly. I’ll try replicating it myself and provide steps if I happen to succeed. For now as a workaround, if I break the compound and re-apply it things look right again. Not ideal but at least it’s viable. Appreciate you taking the time to test it. Thanks 🙏 -

I didn't get it either. So it looks like it is only going out to registered(?) Canva users and not Affinity users. This suggests that either they are very slow at merging the databases or they are treating the Canva and Affinity users separately. This bodes well... as long as it is not just them being slow on merging the databases.

I did not get an email nor am I interested in viewing any of the events, but I am curious about their "updates for force for good efforts." From this web page:

@Komatös vielen Dank für deine Antwort. Wie würdet ihr das Ganze lösen? Separate Dateien und pdfs zusammenfügen? -
Thanks - sorry for the slow reply, but wanted to make sure my client was OK with me sending the file and they ended up just opting to have me start over because of confidentiality. So - it's a loss. For information's sake: No cloud syncing, no cloud services. Antivirus is Webroot on both PC and laptop. I can start and save a new document to the same location. I'm going to start over and maybe work in smaller sections saving new files as I go and assembling a large file at the end by combining the smaller sections and hopefully no issues that way (or at least no big loss of work.) Thank you!

Yes, it's an odd omission since they are both scanning codes, and barcodes are used extensively. Although QR codes have more applications and can store more data than traditional barcodes, barcodes are still more prevalent in retail and logistics due to their simplicity, low cost, and the existing infrastructure supporting their use. QR codes, however, are becoming more common in marketing and consumer applications where their ability to store more information is an advantage. Just look at the back of a bar of Marabou chocolate, for example:

Yes, very much so. It seems that errors and omissions have their biggest (or only) chance during the beta phase when it comes to new features, and that they are not prioritized even though they are logged, except on rare occasions. It goes without saying that if new features are always required, then the allocation of resources for bugs will be accordingly. It seems that this applies to algorithms and features as well, that refactoring and improvements of existing functionality just don't happen. For example, the algorithms behind JPG, which seem to be older than Affinity itself, could probably be replaced. And then I can tell those impatient souls that their constant demand for new features also contributes to blocking improvements or architectural overhauls of Affinity. It is not a mature choice, since these improvements may be necessary for some new features to be implemented at all - or to be implemented without massive effort. In other words - those of us in the serious group of Affinity's customers who produce with Affinity, would often, as a matter of course, allocate a release to bugs, quality improvements, architectural enhancements, and updates of various libraries. Maintenance is a natural and essential part of everything else in society; it is critical for operational stability, performance, security, everything. Thereby also for the company's reputation. For those of you who would consider it the greatest disaster in the world to miss out on new features in a release - I would use that time to learn new techniques or otherwise become a better creator, including as a designer and graphic artist.

I got this email too. I hope that they have good news to share about the acquisition. -
Speaking of information... received this email earlier... Yay more exciting reveals. Packed with jams, I hear.

Nah, you only have to copy the IM mumbojumbo, change the filenames and run it If you wish to persist with the APh macro approach the attached macro is as far as I got. Try it on a spare file and don't save it. It works in that Export persona will produce files with the canvas size but the filenames are horrible, there's no way I know of to retain the layer names It works on files with up to 50 layers Slices-FullSize.afmacro
