keypix Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Hi How do I prevent the clone tools from defaulting to 'Current Layer' all the time? DDNN, BeauRX and ecureuil 3 Quote
Staff MEB Posted November 30, 2018 Staff Posted November 30, 2018 Hi keypix, There's no way to prevent this currently. I'm moving this thread to the Feature Requests section. keypix 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Thanks, and I hope to add that it would be great for all tools to remember settings between sessions of Affinity Photo. KLE-France, sbp, DDNN and 2 others 5 Quote
Steps Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 As I always want to do my inpainting non-destructive on a new layer and have to change this questionable setting I'm with the OP to change that. Benergizer Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 For me, I don't understand why only the inpainting tool always defaults back to current layer only. The healing brush and clone stamp tool don't. I'm sure there was a reason for this decision for this, but I at least wish we had an option to have it stay or default back to current layer only. Quote

bdv Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 +1 on this - have to change this every time I start up. It would be nice if all the tools would recall the last settings. On Windows 10 clone and inpainting always revert back to Current Layer. Pen tool - is it possible to keep rubber band selected? Quote
atari82 Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 +1 on this. Super annoying, when it always switches back, while editing a stack of photos... It should simply remeber it's state. João Vítor Martins 1 Quote
JohnDK Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 +1 for this and also for the crop tool to be able to default to "original ratio" rather than "unconstrained". Having to reset these every time is irritating to say the least! João Vítor Martins 1 Quote

JohnDK Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Very disappointed that the release of V2 hasn't done anything to address these basic niggles. Although it's a fantastic program in many ways having to make the same adjusts to tools time after time is just ridiculous! João Vítor Martins 1 Quote
TrentL Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 +1 for this feature. 99% of the time I am inpainting on a brand new layer to not destroy my original photo below. This tool should default to "Current Layer & Below". j3rry 1 Quote
ecureuil Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Upvoting this. This is one of the most frequent clicks in Affinity Photo that I could easily live without. TrentL 1 Quote

Gripsholm Lion Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Ditto. It is perpetually annoying and inexplicable – or, at least, unexplained. I have a suggestion for a solution, but it's one part of another overarching suggestion, so I'll have to start a new post for it at some point. Quote
