  1. Frequency Separation is a useful concept for touching up photos. But there are some foundational concepts that should be understood to make the most out of this technique. In this video, I’ll cover these concepts from the ground up.
  2. Affinity Designer has lots of options for warping vectors and text. But can you actually warp images? Today I’ll show you how to use this easy-to-miss feature.
  3. Hue Range Masks give you much more power and flexibility when masking based on colors. Today we’ll look at how to use the Hue Range Mask feature in Affinity Photo, along with ways to combine them with adjustment layers.
  4. Compound Masks give you much more power and flexibility when combining masks. Today we’ll look at how to use the Compound Mask feature in Affinity Photo, along with ways to combine them with adjustment layers.
  5. Luminosity Masks are a way to dynamically create masks based on levels of dark and light. In this video, we’ll look at this feature from the ground up and see how it can be applied to your photographs.
  6. Loading Photoshop brushes into Affinity is pretty simple. But sometimes brushes have cool effects that require some extra steps. In this video, we’ll look at loading a simple Photoshop brush and a more complex brush into Affinity Photo
  7. Loading Procreate brushes into Affinity takes a few steps, but it is possible. In this video, we’ll look at how to load 2 types of brushes (Stamp Brushes, Texture Brushes) and also review some Dynamics settings to make them look even better. PS: If anyone from Serif (or should I say Canva?) is reading, it would be a cool feature if Procreate brushes could be loaded as easily as Photoshop brushes. It seems like it would be a relatively easy feature to implement.
  8. The Paint Mixer Brush tool is a great way to realistically mix paint on your canvas. Today we’ll look at how to use this tool and what the settings mean.
  9. I'm playing with the Mixer Brush in Affinity Photo, which is quite fun 😎 I'm wondering what controls the fade effect? Some of the brushes seem to hold the paint as long as I can make the stroke, whereas others have a more realistic fade effect. In both cases I have turned off "Auto Load Brush" and "Auto Clean Brush". I looked at the brush settings and I don't see any differences that stand out to me. I'm sure I missed something. Below are 2 examples of oil brushes: Thanks!
  10. True. But as you noticed, the contrast is not always available. It seems to only be enabled when Cosine is selected as the Dot method (not Round).
  11. You are correct, I should have mentioned that. I still have a strong habit of saving individual assets/elements of my work as PNGs, but one could just work directly between the programs. My (long) TODO list contains a video topic for "How to Work Seamlessly Between The Affinity Programs." Perhaps I will try to do a video on that subject sooner rather than later.
  12. Half Tones are a cool effect you can use to add some vintage flair to your artwork. In this tutorial, we’ll look at how this filter works in Affinity Photo.
  13. Live Filters in Affinity Photo can be used to fix your images or even to make new creative effects. How do they work? In this video, we’ll check them out.
  14. Blend Modes are a critical concept in many graphics and video programs. In this crash course video, we’ll look at how they work in the Affinity suite.
  15. Platforms: Mac and Windows Version: Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo 2.4.0 Issue: In Export Persona, Path Components of a Slice are not recognized unless a document is closed and re-opened. I’ve seen this issue on both Mac and Windows. I first noticed it when testing the new “Document Name” path component in Affinity 2.4.0, but maybe it existed earlier. To reproduce (using Affinity Designer as an example): Create a new document Save (ex: MyTest.afdesign) Go to Export Persona On Slices tab, expand “background” slice. Add “Document Name” and/or “Document Filename” to Path Components: Notice how it does not appear in the filename: Close the document. Re-open it and go back to the Export Persona. Expand the slice. Observe that the parameters are now there:
  16. Resizing, rotating, shearing…these are the core functions in any graphics program. But are you using these features to their full potential? Today we’ll look at the transform options in Affinity Designer, including working with origin points and transforming multiple objects at once.
  17. Thanks, I demo'd this on my livestream today. I basically told people that it is a neat little trick in Affinity Designer, but if they really want the full power of text formatting, they should use Affinity Publisher.
  18. I was about to suggest just taking it out. I think it looks fine with it removed.
  19. @jmwellborn @Return Thanks, those are both good points that I was not aware of! Also, someone else told me that in Affinity Designer you can have Frame Text scroll across dis-joint areas, although the usability seems a little bit less than in Affinity Publisher. Below I created 2 rectangles, did a boolean ADD on them, then converted them to a Text Frame.
  20. The Frame Text Tool in Affinity products is great for large amounts of text such as paragraphs. This video is relevant for Affinity Designer, Publisher, and Photo. However, Publisher has a few extra special features that we’ll cover.
  21. The Artistic Text Tool in Affinity products is great for short amounts of text such as titles, headlines, and logos. This video is applicable to Affinity Designer, Affinity Publisher, and Affinity Photo.
