  1. Affinity is great, but moving back to Photoshop, the workflow is so much better I find. Why is it that in Affinity, the "B" shortcut which is one of the most used tools in the software, doesn't actually lead ot the brush tool but circulates through a number of other tools? It's incredibly frustrating to press the "b" key expecting the brush, but you sit there painting away and Affinity has toggled through another tool that's not often used. It's very frustrating user experience. The last one that's extremely frustrating and the reason I went back to Photoshop is why do the tools not remember the settings? The defaults for the clone tool is set to Current Layer but every single time I ahve to select "Current Layer and Below" as well as a couple of other settings. It got to the point, where all the tools have to be changed every session that I'd rather go back to Photoshop because it's less of an issue. Sorry to be frank and savage in this post, but I really do hope the developers consider this for day to day use. I understand the B shortcut can be changed, but PLEASE consider saving the tools so they are customised for the user every session - it's such a dealbreaker. I don't want to have to set them up every single time!
  2. Of course, a lot are not after an emulated Adobe Dinosaur. Just two simple things which would make life easier and...I don't think the point 1 below is even an opinion, it should be default behavior in any professional program! 1) Affinity Photo to remember tool settings between sessions 2) Brush tool, which would be the most popular tool in the entire program, to have it's own dedicated shortcut button by default. I do like the idea of using SHIFT + shortcut to toggle between tools ,that makes a lot of sense.
  3. Argh. For some reason Affinity will default brushes to 0% opacity. So when using it, you start drawing only to release it's defaulting to 0% because Affinity does not remember that you previously set it to 100% opacity. It's like you get trolled using this app as it's just not a smooth workflow with so many tool's resetting to defaults. Not sure why the B shortcut was designed to toggle through many lesser tools than just the brush tool. It should be, by default, b for brush and g for paint tool. Sorry to rant but Affinity is so close, just needs these final polish touches to the user experience. These little inconsistencies are like buying a new expensive car only to learn it has a rattle!
  4. I thhink a RAW developer would need a lot of work to reach the level of Capture One with processing. For instance the way the two contrast works is very different. I find C1 to have the nicer control rather than the literal contrast of Affinity RAW developer
  5. Thanks, and I hope to add that it would be great for all tools to remember settings between sessions of Affinity Photo.
  6. Yes for some reason the Devs chose to have all tools in Affinity default to their specs and not the last used settings by the user. :(
  7. I know EXR is supported currently but at the moment it lacks a bit. When importing an EXR from a renderer, only the primary channel is improted and all data (most importantly the alpha channel) is automatically discarded. Just wondering if it's possible to add this support in future as it's all open sourced. Photoshop doesn't do a good job either natively but there are a number of really good free plugins that accomplish proper EXR support. https://www.fnordware.com/ProEXR/ https://www.exr-io.com/
  8. Is it just me, or is opening two documents then dragging + dropping pages from one document to the other not possible? If so, it would be incredibly useful and could go up against Adobe Acrobat with editing PDFs.
  9. ...not the same case with Photoshop. Latest public release of Affinity on W10. I don't want to upload the file to the forum, is there a bug report email I can send into? Edit: Image was sourced from a Xerox scanner. It looks like the scanner called it a TIFF but photoshop wouldn't open the image until I renamed it .jpg. Photoshop opens the image flawlessly however Affinity still opens the image and renders it a solid green color

TIFFS open as pure green images

All done, it's clearly something Xerox have done. Probably wrapped the image in a wrong format or something. Most apps open it though. Interested too to see what's happening with this.
  11. Ok, this explains it. I'm using Affinity Photo. This seems to support read only of Artboards in terms of creation then?
  12. Hi, Could anyone please explain how Artboards can be created? Removed or turn a document into an artboard? The video tutorials are all out of date as the "artboard" option is missing from File > New dialogue box. The help files mention the artboard tool but that isn't present in the default interface. There are no options to remove or create artboards when right clicking anywhere in the UI. It's a mystery! I've only been able to create them by importing multi page PDFs. Thanks.
  13. Ok, I've just recorded a screencast. I can't reproduce the corruption unfortunately for this file but I think I've identified what's happening with this. If I use Lightroom to get Affinity to Edit the photo. All seems to work but the key is during the save process with Affinity. The screencast will show that after Affinity saves a TIF file, if you close the program straight after the save dialogue box disappears. The TIF file will not be saved at all despite the program saying it is. I think the corruption might sometimes occur when Lightroom decides to read the file at the same time as Affinity decides to save. Or sometimes another instance of Affinity in the background might lock the TIF file while a new instance is trying to save? Anyway, the screencast will show the issue. I'll report back if I can get a consistent corruption.
  14. Hi, I've found a bug where I can consistently corrupt TIF files. If I am using Lightroom, I can choose to "Edit with Lightroom with adjustments". This creates a TIF file where Affinity is able to open. If you edit the TIF file with some layers and press save, the progress window should appear. Affinity Photo seems to write unusually fast with TIFF files that are around 100MB. The trick to corrupt the TIFF file is to instantly close Affinity after the save dialogue box disappears. I've lost a few hours of work but have finally figured out why. W10x64 and latest public release of Affinity Photo.
  15. I could definitely do this, but I don't want to publicly post a link to the screencast. I've also a 45MB tiff that Affinity created which is corrupt. When attempting to open it, it will crash Affinity.

    Stuck on panning mode

Hi, anyone else use Affinity photo and quite often the canvas locks onto the mouse and follows it everywhere as if pan mode is permanently on? The only fix is to close the program down and open it again. I haven't been able to reproduce but it seems to happen when saving and the spacebar is pressed while the save occurs. Again though, it's not a 100% reproducible bug. Windows 10.

    Stuck on panning mode

That would be most excellent. I too think it occurs mostly when panning with the Ctrl + S dialogue. Although for me it gets stuck until the program is closed. Even minimizing, or any other manner of keys won't fix it. I'll give the left click a try though. Thank you Chris.

    Stuck on panning mode

Hi, Just a standard keyboard and mouse. This issue happens quite often in working with the program during the day. I don't think it's hardware related as it happens on a custom built workstation at home and a HPZ440 at work. It seems to reproduce while the save dialogue box is present.
  19. I guess because it's one thing jumping ship on a hobby pc. Not so much when you rely on these programs for a living. I dabbled in Ubuntu for 3 or 4 years around 2010 but it was not viable to run PS in wine or lightroom in wine.....so back to Windows it was.
  20. After using PS for more than a decade, I think I do much prefer Affinity Photo. The inpainting brush tool is tremendously powerful. However one thing that keeps on popping up with this program, and something that is incredibly frustrating, is that tools will not remember the last settings. I've seen that this a common issue that's been reported for years but not sure why it still hasn't been addressed? It would be a rather simple fix where the tools just write out the last settings used to xml files I would've thought. It's a very frustrating process to mentally keep a track of the settings and continually set them up. I've lost how many times I'm painting away wondering why the infill didn't work only to realise it's reverted back to "current layer". Apart from smart objects and linking that's in Photoshop, this is a very solid product - thanks and keep up the good work!
  21. Lack of Lightroom or a Photoshop alternative is the only thing stopping a LOT of people from jumping ship. I'd jump over in a heartbeat if Affinity was on Linux. A bit like Chicken or the egg, one needs to come before the other though!
  22. I see that with 1.6 out, yet this still isn't addressed. I struggle to understand how a program can be written from scratch, but something as basic as tool settings is not remembered between each session. It's a real shame because it's such a nice program to use but this "bug" (yes it's a bug) really takes the polish off. It's quite frustrating to use the inpaint tool only to release it's reverted back to "current layer". Most tools in Affinity Photo suffer the same issue.
  23. When you edit from lightroom, it will save a tiff. (unfortunately Lightroom thinks it should be called a .tif file but affinity insists it should be called a .tiff so a bit of manual renaming is needed between the two programs). However Affinity will save TIFF layers which lightroom will use so this should work for you. I've ditched Photoshop after seeing how good the Inpainting Brush tool is. Affinity annoys me with the shortcuts though, pressing "b" should not cycle through different tools - it should just be the brush tool!
  24. I'm having this same issue just to report. Is there a workaround because unfortunately I've 10 documents but cannot print anything due to the mask corruption. Unfortunately it's also my first experience with Affinity Photo in a production environment. Thanks. Edit: It seems the best workaround is to export the image as a PNG and then print if anyone else stumbles on this bug.
