ffca got a reaction from SnapArtboardsToPixels in Slice auto size to document size
+1 for this, it would be extremely handy to have a button that would set that slice dimensions to match the canvas/document. I'm exporting product shots, there are about 40 dog collars that all need to be the same final dimensions, but they take up different dimensions within the document. I have to manually drag the boundaries of every slice to make this happen.

ffca got a reaction from Helmar in Custom Fields
I came to make a request for this. It's absolutely needed and extremely useful!! I have several documents that grow over time as new information gets added.
For example one is a list of Wine Awards—when a new award comes in, I make a new page in the appropriate section and let the following pages shuffle down. Having the ability to define Custom Fields would allow me to set up inputs for repeating subheads (for a subgroup of awards all coming from the same competition for example).
Hoping this makes it into APub 1.8

ffca got a reaction from sfriedberg in Remember File Paths Per Document Rather than Per Application
Currently, when I re-open an old project (or have 2 or more open projects) and export assets, the file path opens to the last location used by the application. That means I am constantly having to track down the folder that the document belongs in, to keep things organized.
Is it possible to have Designer remember the Save To file path on a document basis, instead of as a global application basis? That would make things so much simpler and easier to work with.

Wow, nice work. Thank you for your effort.
This will get the job done in the meantime.
I still suggest that Photo brings this as basic functionality with it. It could be integrated with a dropdown after the width & height fields to add more control how it should behave.

I find the fields feature to be very useful, but it would also be useful to be able to be able to define your own custom fields.

+1
I'd most likely use custom fields for running headers and footers (e.g. last occurence of "header_1" text style, chapter name) and for custom text variables (e.g. issue number in a magazine)

ffca reacted to purveyor27 in 3 page spread
This is an absolute must-have feature. three page spreads (and larger) are very common for me and I would absolutely need this feature in order to switch from InDesign.
Also with the ability to adjust the page size of each page on a spread (like InDesign) and output with fold/trim bleed marks etc. I do a lot of tri-fold brochures and wide format print (as previously mentioned) and i have to be able to set files up this way.

ffca reacted to coso in 3 page spread
InDesign used to be like that, but it introduced the function around cs4 or cs5. It looks like nothing but it's super useful, for example for book covers (to adjust the width of the spine, which changes with paper weight etc.), to make flyers with automatic fold marks etc..
So I think it's a feature you should plan to add sooner or later if you want to compete with indesign

ffca reacted to iaing in 3 page spread
That's a big miss for me - I often design exhibition panels where I need to put maybe 7 or 8 panels side by side; I need to save the whole thing as a spread for client to visualise it, but then save pdfs as separate panels to send to print. Indesign currently copes fine with this. I realise I can use Designer for that with Artboards, but the image placement controls, Resource Manager and text controls already make Publisher a more attractive prospect for this sort of work - but not if limited to 2-page spreads.

ffca reacted to Natters in 3 page spread
There are times when a 3 page spread would be useful (as in I currently use on a regular basis in InDesign): book cover designs, tri-fold pamphlet design etc. Is this something that will work with the official release?

ffca reacted to Dave Harris in 3 page spread
This isn't something we plan to change. We support one- or two-page spreads directly, and beyond that you can create a spread of any size, and demark nominal pages with guides.

ffca reacted to Old Bruce in Image Captions
The only thing I can suggest is to manually step through the images in the Resource Manager and (again manually) copy and paste the file path name from the bottom left of that panel. Hopefully there will be a way of doing this with the Fields Studio. Damn good idea to add it in as a Field > Caption. We could add that to each image if we wanted. I shall think more on this.

ffca reacted to Quedlinga in Workarounds for Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort?
I'm also looking for an Adobe alternative. Already buyed Publisher and decided to replace Illustrator & Photoshop too. Since yesterday i'm in Test period for the Designer. Yet for my first artwork on Affinity Designer I'm missing Text disortion/warping.
It's really sad to read, that this tool is missing for years. This tool seems important for a lot of users. Looks like I have to stay Adobe User. Without Text warping it's not possible for me to work with Affinity Designer and without using Designer / Photo, it's not practical for me to work on Publisher.
Gave a lot of hope on Affinity but this old unsolved thread about the missing tool makes is disappointing.

ffca got a reaction from JGD in Full-paragraph type composition
Bumping! Pleasing text composition is one cornerstone that sets professional typesetting apart.

ffca reacted to Chrysogonus in Full-paragraph type composition
Like everyone else, I am absolutely thrilled about the beta, and can't wait to see how it develops.
One of the key reasons to use LaTeX or InDesign over Microsoft Word is their superior type composition. While Word simply dumps in text as it occurs, without regard to spacing or line breaks, these other programs look at an entire paragraph to remove rivers of type, reduce the need for hyphenation, and so forth, just as human type compositors do. In TeX, this is the Knuth-Plass Line Breaking Algorithm; InDesign has the Adobe Paragraph Composer (which it uses by default, but also has an option to turn this off with a single-line composer). Implementing this in Affinity Publisher would make it far easier to produce professionally typeset documents.

YES. Also: this.
I'll definitely be using Publisher for most (if not all) of my projects as soon as it comes out of beta. Bring on the multi-line composer with hyphenation fine-tuning controls, and I'll be using it for typesetting entire books, too.

ffca got a reaction from Jane78 in Import Designer 1.6 Settings?
Is it possible to import the custom settings I have in Designer 1.6? I have a variety of Swatch panels and Asset groups that I use for ongoing clients.
Will I have to just export them all individually and re-import?
