    I just thought of a great feature to add to all the apps...
    I'm working in affinity designer and added a drop shadow but wanted the radius to contract, not expand. It would be great to have the radius adjustment bar be zero in the middle of the bar. if I pull left, the shadow radius contracts and if I pull the bar to the right it expands. This would be great for a lot of the adjustments.
    Kinda like the way you have the Clarity Filter.Left makes it softer, right makes it clearer. With zero in the middle.

    hi,

    I've been using affinity designer since 1 full year, so I think it's time to place my thoughts here as professional User, for long period of work I really miss more customization by the user side, as I work with vector pieces, sometimes is really time-consuming to click on the buttons to apply some simple changes, so I think the toolbar top options should also be available to apply as hotkey, because I can't see these options as option to use in my keyboard. I think this would be very helpful during my daily work and for all users as well.

    thanks

    I totally agree with GarryP! Working with gutters in a grid was quicker and far more intuitive. Now you need nearly high math to set an equivalent document to the "old gutter style".
    Please, give the gutters back!
    BTW, if you open pre-1.7 document with gutters set they work well, so where is the problem? The code is still there, only gutter setting is hidden...

    Hi seabirdr,

    Another user has mentioned the same issue, that some things are not just possible with column guides. I'll get your comments passed on!

    It would seem that starting this 'Guides' thread that I may have opened a can of worms for the developers!
    There have been many suggestions about improving the versatility/usability of the current guide feature. I have basically copied and pasted all the suggestions into this one combined suggestion.
    From jackamus
    It would be useful to be able to set some locked guides (a different colour perhaps) whilst being able to use movable guides as well. Attached is a  file for having 4 different types of guide lines Guid lines.afdesign
    The colour of the guides would be a default colour as well as a a user choice.
    One of the suggestions I made some time ago was to be able to see an objects handles/nodes when moving a guide. I'm still waiting for that one.

    From Aammppaa
    The colour coding might be nice.
    A Guide layer.
    Allow the user to export / print with guides visible.

    Form CLCI
    I also got a suggestion for guides. When you use Guide Manager and click the guide's coordinates, be it horizontal or vertical one, the guide itself should get highligted (maybe change color) so you know what guide you're working with.
    Also, multiple guide selection in Guides Manager pane would be huge improvement.

    From Nicky G
    I also find the use of this panel for guides to be nice, but uncomfortable.
    1. As you say you should highlight the guide in focus with different color
    2. selection and movement of several guides (as if they were grouped)
    3. Creating Guides rotated at user-defined angles
    4. creation of vector shapes (any form) in guide, as happens in Ai.
    5. possibility to open the guide panel by double clicking on the guide itself. (it would avoid the GUIDE DISPLAY / MANAGEMENT step)
    6. Possibility of selecting and direct highlighting of the guide on the drawing table and moving the guide ALSO through the XY axes inside the panel visible on the screen Transform.
    It would speed up the numerical displacement of a guide (as happens in Ai). I
    In my opinion it would also be useful, by pressing at the same time as dragging the guides, for example CTRL, to activate a SNAP of the guide on the numerical notches of the ruler,
    1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7- 8 mm.
    And depending on the Zoom, it is possible to hook the guides to intermediate sizes 0.5mm - 1mm - 1.5mm - 2mm - 2.5mm ....
    Higher zoom even with 1/10 mm notches etc ...
    1.1mm - 1.2 - 1.3 ....
    Dragging without the CTRL key the operation remains the same as now.
    From catlover My only remaining beefs about the guides are these two:
    1. they should extend all the way to the rulers
    2. the user should be able to choose the color
    Other than that, the devs did a cracking job with the guides.

    Rudolphus reacted to PanthenEye in Better Stroke Width Control [Designer]
    Please add better stroke width control. I attempted to use Affinity Designer for complex character lineart with the pressure graph tool. Unfortunately, it works only in simple cases. When many points are added it gets incredibly fiddly to change things or to even understand which point I have to move for editing. Not to mention the pressure graph often bugging out completely in complex situations either with points merging for no reason or point not moving at all and me having to close it down and turn it back up. The current solution is simply not good enough for many complex cases.
    Moho Pro 12 (previously called Anime Studio Pro) has a great tool for this, simply called "line width tool". Here you can see it in action:

    Even Illustrator's version of this would be good to have:
    Just do something, please. Threads about his have been around for ages. In 2015 it was mentioned as being worked on yet it never landed. Only silence. No mentions of this improvement on the roadmap. This is such a fundamental missing feature that keeps me away from using Designer.

    Well, so many functions are missing in the list for shortcuts! On the other hand, there are "inc/dec brush size" options for every type of brush. Do you want to change this? You have to change it for each one separately! Why? Is there any situation I will simultaneously work with two or more brushes and change their sizes at the same time???
    Please, at least give us an option to change this for all brushes at one place!

    Rudolphus reacted to quaSimba in Subdivision lines transparency always resets to full
    Hi there,
    I noticed another bug. In the Grid and Axis Manager, you can set the transparency of the grid's subdivision lines. This setting resets to full transparency with each start of the program. It would be appreciated if Designer could store the set value globally or per document in the future.

    Rudolphus reacted to GRAFKOM in shape + text frame problem (.284)
    If you create a text frame with text in Publisher and give it the background color and frame color and copy it to Designer, Designer will display everything correctly, but obviously you will not be able to change the background and frame. So Designer can correctly interpret these functions, so just put a piece of code from Publisher into Designer and that's all. However, Serif stubbornly does not want to do it?
    I wrote about it in other posts. But as I said, Serif does not intend to introduce this function to Designer. The question is why?
    To buy a publisher for strength? I will buy it anyway. Why change between programs to change the background color of a text frame? I still think that does not make sense.

    I agree.
    I have already reported all of these issues and suggestions in various bug reports and feature requests going back 2 years now.
    Plus many functions simply do not appear, so can't have shortcuts set (for example Lock Children, Show Rotation Center, Polyline subtool of the Pen Tool)
    A real shame there has been no improvement.
    Perhaps it is still not too late for 1.7?

    I just noticed that this hasn't been solved yet.
    There is a shortcut to cycle through planes, which is ' (apostrophe key). If you don't have a US-layouted keyboard with an apostrophe key (just like me) you can change the shortcut in Edit > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts under Miscellaneous, "Cycle Snapping Planes". Took me a while to find it, so I thought it might help others in the future.

    Rudolphus reacted to GarryP in Where have the Gutter settings for grids gone?
    I find them very useful when experimenting with icon design, where each grid division is its own 'mini artboard'.
    Here's my workflow:
    * Create document with artboard, any size will do;
    * Set-up grid with gutters;
    * Create background rectangle, colour it and lock it;
    * Draw icons, one to a division, nicely spaced out;
    * When I need more space, expand artboard and background rectangle; grid automatically expands;
    * When I need to see the icons against a different background, change the background rectangle colour;
    If instead I had to use column guides - within a single artboard - I:
    * Would have to create a square document, otherwise the column/row guides would not be square;
    * Would not be able to easily add extra 'mini artboards' because expanding the artboard would stretch the column guides;
    And using multiple artboards has its own disadvantages too.
    I tried some experimentation and it was a little bit awkward to get the column guides and the grid to play nicely together. I had to do some calculations to make sure that the grid conformed with the column/row guide edges. Not an impossible task by any means but it requires more forethought than the old way.
    By way of example, to have a 10x10 grid of 48x48px 'mini grids' with an 8px gutter I had to:
    * create a document with dimensions of (48*10)+(8*9)px;
    * create 10 column guides and 10 row guides with 8px gutters;
    * create a grid with a spacing of 56px (48+8 gutter) and 56 (48+8 gutter) divisions (and remember to ignore the last 8 divisions).
    Not the easiest thing to do but certainly possible.
    I could well be doing things the most awkward way but it was simply quicker the old way for whacking some ideas down. If the new way is just how it is and/or I'm the only person who misses the old way then that's something I can very much live with. Just thought I'd mention it in case it had slipped someone's mind.

    Rudolphus got a reaction from debraspicher in How to fix this...
    This is an old feature/bug, I am affraid, and has nothing to do with the current Isometric or Appearance panels. When you create two touching objects as you did, you can sometimes see the background through the gap between them. Well, even though our logic says there's no such a gap, AD has, apparently, other opinion. Color of this "see through gap" is a result of aliasing.
    Solution of debraspicher (hinting to whole pixels) may help to some degree. But there are situations (objects with {nearly} same color, non-vertical or horizontal sides of the objects...) when it won't work for 100%.
    See this:

    Well, this is not using blend modes, but as an example:

    As you can see, there are six fills in total: one white solid and five with radial fill and 0% opacity at one end.

    Having only just now downloaded the .256 Beta, I won't have opportunity to play with it until this evening. But just based on what I see in user screenshots:
    Scale of path ends (arrowheads) should be independent of stroke weight. The importance of this should be obvious if or when support for user defined path ends is provided (hopefully incorporated with Symbols).
    Position of path ends should be infinitely adjustable (i.e., not just limited to inboard and outboard of the end nodes).  Very common example is needing a ball end to be centered on the path ( with snapping) or object it is referencing in a callout.

    It should really match macOS so I'll put an improvement request in.
