NilsFinken reacted to Bri-Toon in Illustrator vs. DrawPlus vs. Designer vs. CorelDRAW
As a user who experimented a lot with vector graphics over the years, I find it might be helpful for others for me to share the differences between Illustrator, DrawPlus, Designer, and CorelDraw. A lot of you might be unfamiliar with one or more of the programs. There are things I like about each and things I do not like. Onur has decided to help out in giving me background to CorelDraw since that is one I am unfamiliar with.
I will explain why I prefer certain programs and why I don't prefer them with the features that I find most or partially helpful. Here are 26 I came up with.

NilsFinken reacted to R C-R in Default font
For complete info see the built-in Help topic "Vector content defaults" but basically, you select an art or frame text object, set it to the font & font attributes you want & on the Edit menu > Defaults, select Save. Do this separately for the two types of text objects. Also works for vector objects.

NilsFinken reacted to rubs in Windows Keyboard with Affinity Shortcuts
Hi everyone,
I'd like to share with you a drawing I made that looks like a Windows keyboard. Some notes:
I don't know exactly which tools are available to which personas, so please help me here. I'd appreciate very much if you posted it back with corrections. I use the Brazilian keyboard layout, but it's pretty easy to edit it to whatever you like (US, AZERTY, etc.) and upload it here. I made vector artwork for several missing tools. There are still some Pixel tools to do (smudge, blur, sharpen). There are layers for the Pixel persona, the Slice persona, and the Text tool. Just make them visible. I've color-coded the modifier keys in a different fashion than Affinity's original coding. Several shortcuts are changed. I'd love it if someone posted the original ones in place. There are symbols for the keys and a palette with global colors. I hope any of you find it useful!

NilsFinken reacted to MJSfoto1956 in Resizing... is this a joke?
I've been using Photoshop since 1990. And during that time I too got used to "resizing" my images to match the desired output. However, I've since changed my ways with Affinity Photo -- I now only "resize" on export. Since Affinity doesn't lose resolution when resizing pixel layers, you can stack a bunch of images, each with different resolution density, scale them each as layers, and output them at the desired resolution without losing any fidelity. At first I was skeptical but after having just printed a solo show for a museum here in Massachusetts using this technique, I'm sold.
YMMV

NilsFinken reacted to MattP in some visible hairline that irritate
You will get this hairline in any vector program to a greater or lesser extent whenever two edges are exactly the same value... It's a side-effect of the way the rasterisation routine works... There are ways to reduce the effect, but to solve it completely really needs a different approach to the rasterisation (that nobody uses because it provides worse results in other cases). The effects will change based on the exact zoom level and position of the objects on a sub-pixel, but they will always be there. The easiest way to get rid of these is simply to extend objects to overlap in ways that don't matter, and to overlap and 'Add' objects of the same colour to form one object from two that used to butt up to each other. You could also try using the advanced blending options (the cog on the Layers panel) with your objects selected and adjust the antialiasing ramp to include more of the pixels.
We will continue to try to improve this over time, but it is an inherent problem with any vector drawing program (although some do deliberately distort the values you asked for in order to reduce the appearance of this effect, so they seem to be working better - although you can make them fail if you know how...)
Thanks,
Matt
