MickRose got a reaction from Alfred in How to check the ink coverage
I find it hard to believe that their maximum coverage is 150% though I don't know what machine they use for printing the wedding menus. On most paper/cards the maximum would be nearer 250 or 300. I wonder if you chose a stock that was very delicate and couldn't take much ink. Also, it is not good if some sheets were okay and others were not.

To me, it's partly the existence of this forum which has engendered a sort of loyalty to Serif in it's attempt to make decent and cheap software in a market dominated by Adobe. Big companies have bought small companies since companies existed and I have no ill feeling towards Serif for allowing itself to be bought out. I can see why they think it's a good thing for them (not just the money) and only time will tell if it turns out to be a good thing or not for it's customers. Presumably at some point a super-duper subscription only version will come out and users will have to make their own minds up about that. Thanks for the ride.

Hi @Rallef Is this what you want? If yes, just make the text frame very narrow (1mm or so).

MickRose got a reaction from AndreasS in How to create an oval document with bleed for stickers?
Hi @AndreasS - Bleed is always rectangular (I think). Printing stickers with a cutout shape is something different. The normal practice is the create a spot colour called CutContour and tag the outline shape with that spot colour. Then export to a PDF making sure to keep spot colours. I would check this with your print supplier. I would also suggest doing a forum search for "CutContour".

MickRose got a reaction from GregTh in Custom text fields
Sometimes I need to repeatedly insert the same names/text into a text frame. It would be useful to add another category in the Fields panel (maybe just called "Text") in the Fields panel in which double clicking an item inserted it into the text flow. The number of items would best be determined by the user. I know there are 6 editable fields in the Document Information section but that is not ideal.

MickRose got a reaction from Oufti in How can I keep content of other pages off my spine's bleed?
Hi @Stephen_H I understand what you are saying but I think you are seeing a problem that doesn't really exist. Any imposition software that a printing company uses will remove any inner bleed and keep any outer bleed. It doesn't matter what the exported PDF looks like - I agree it can look a bit messy with bits of  facing pages appearing in the bleed area.  Also, printing companies might normally provide an electronic PDF proof for you to check.

MickRose got a reaction from cje in Convert from PMS to CMYK colour
Double click the round fill area in the Colour panel or at the bottom of the Tools panel. That brings up the Colour Chooser. Then change one of the CMYK values, then back again. Easiest way is to use the mouse scrolling button to go up and then down. That changes the fill to CMYK rather than Pantone.

MickRose reacted to Catshill in Publisher - Export as spreads by default
I got caught out again when my commercial printer asked why the pdf I sent him was in spreads not pages. A plea for this long standing issue to be fixed please.
Issue: When exporting a pdf, the export as spreads rather than pages is the default. This happens regardless of a preset being set. In addition, the last used setting is ignored. It always defaults to spreads.

What would be really nice would be a kind of Super Preview in which text frames and other objects wouldn't show their frame even if clicked. They would show as selected in the layers panel but not on the main design area.

MickRose got a reaction from johannesz in Publisher - Prints come out too small
On my printer when I scale at 100.5& the display shows 101 but the output is printed correctly at 100.5%.  Scaling at 100.3% displays 100% but the actual print does seem correct. So it might be worth experimenting with the scale value in increments of 0.1%..

Thanks @Return - it was an RGB document and making it CMYK did the trick. The K image still won't print but that's a different matter and I have reported it.

Hi @Print Monkey On the specific tent card question why not just use a Master Page with the top text frame rotating 180 degrees as required (for editing or outputing). There is no need to use spreads. Or am I misunderstanding the question?

Hi @Joe_1 As a workaround you could temporarily give the document a very large bleed size. Wrong spellings off the page are picked up as errors as long as part of the text frame is within the bleed area.

I use the resource manager a lot, is it not possible to make it a window that is dock-able, just like the layers window, channels etc?
Also would be great if its position could also be saved with your layout preset, as it disappears when you restart Affinity
    Thanks!

MickRose reacted to PaoloT in Picture Frame Styles
    Hi,
Similarly to Text Styles, I would love if Publisher had Picture Frame Styles. Something similar to InDesign's Object Styles.
The current Styles are global ones, not tied to a document. They are sort of style presets, more than styles. Click on one, and the properties are applied to the selected object(s). Edit the style, and nothing changes in the objects you applied the style to.
I find being able to change the object properties when editing the Picture Frame Styles very important, because image styles are an essential part of a publication's style. For example, you might want a minimal, flat design in a project, and a design "popping-out" in a derived publication (for example, a book for kids derived from an age-neutral one).

I find the transparency grid when exporting PDFs quite annoying, partcularly if I'm trying to check some fine detail. It's a shame there isn't an option to show it as white (or something else). An option to hide the preview would be good.

Is there a way to change the default colour of the Publisher bleed box. At the moment it is a dark blue and I'd rather have it is red. I know it can be changed within a document but can it be set so it is red when creating a new document (not from a template)?

MickRose got a reaction from DustInComp in Very very disappointed with Publisher 2
In a way that is true but Serif has an unusual way of releasing upgrades. Version 1 came out over 3 years ago and since then there have been a lot of improvements and new features and all for free. So comparing version 2 with version 1.9 (or whatever the previous build was) is a bit unfair. At some point they have to get revenue so they release a new version and if people want it they have to pay for it. Presumably new free features will keep coming and people will decide to upgrade or not.
