OTOH, just because something is new does not mean it is a good idea or useful, like these bizarre inventions.

And still it's worth a laugh for some 😀

It seems fine, what specifically isn't working for you...

The controls of the background version are janky, they flicker and always just flip back to their original position (the video has only the background one, I removed the foreground so it's easier to see). Another dynamic font I have works fine.

Hi @000,

You need to remove the Gnomon* Foreground Font from your Font Library and use two copies of Gnomon* Simple (the variable font), i.e., create the word Jabberwocky in one layer using Gnomon* Simple then duplicate the layer, colour both layers then apply the Font Variation to the lower layer...

I was surprised that when I created custom instances that the Font Style control was blank. I was confused at first because blank is already used for mixed state. Perhaps you didn't want to repeat what Adobe did, listing all the axis changes in the name (e.g., "Italic Monospace-0.429 Casual-0.130 Semibold") but perhaps something else could be shown such as <Custom>?

I still think it's confusing to show blank for a custom Font Style because there's no difference between a custom value and mixed state, e.g., selecting bold and italic text together. Showing Custom in parentheses would avoid confusion.

In Adobe apps, customizing one axis for a standard font like Myriad shows just the value for the relevant axis. e.g., Regular-470. Customizing two axes shows both which starts to get long. In some fonts (Roboto Flex), changing just one axis shows an essay-length description which isn't very good.

I'm unsure if it would be good to show values like Adobe does, but I think showing at least Custom would be helpful.

I am unable to see this V icon next to my text tools that I see in some of these posted images. Do I need to click something to show this variable icon? None of my programs have this. I have the newest update too.

Thanks

Do you have any variable fonts installed on your computer?

A screenshot (complete application window, please) of what you are seeing would help. But to start, are you sure you're using V2 and at least 2.5.0? And what OS are you using?

The V is present whether or not you have Variable fonts (at least on Windows). It's just grayed out when it's not applicable.

On my Mac, it is only there in the context toolbar if I have a variable font selected in the dropdown Font Family list.

Do a web search on "variable fonts" You will get many hits, so try downloading & installing at least one of them. Roboto Flex is a popular one to test with because it has so many hidden variables that can be enabled & adjusted.

Lots of them can be. Microsoft Himalaya (at least the version you have, isn't, apparently).

If you click the font name pulldown, you can filter based on the kind of font. E.g., I see these on my system.

And apparently @Keithscatch is using a Mac because like for me there is no greyed out V when a regular font is selected.

So it would seem that the greyed out V icon is just a Windows thing....

This shows only the variable fonts: https://fonts.google.com/?vfonly=true

Currently 417 are variable of 1682 families.

FWIW< there are other sources than Google Fonts for variable fonts, some I believe that Google Fonts does not include.
