So it would seem that the greyed out V icon is just a Windows thing.... No, it's there on macOS, too. Do you have a variable version of Microsoft Himalaya? Last I have is v5.23 (2018) - which is static. There is a v5.24 in the cloud fonts now, but I think it too is static. Obviously. For someone looking for variable fonts on Google Fonts, that is the more direct link to just the variable fonts list. Rather than the main GF link posted above. That was the point. And for someone who has no variable fonts experience, that is a good place to start. Or Helvetica Now Variable is only $575.99 on MyFonts. With all due respect (& I have a ton of it for your expertise!) what is obvious to many users often is not for others, particularly for something like variable fonts if they are not already familiar with what they are or the various sources for them. That is why I suggested doing a search on "variable fonts" as a starting point. At $576 one might consider it to be hugely overpriced, but $575.99 is unarguably a slightly less unattractive amount. Puchacamilo
I'm not in the beta, so maybe this has been corrected. In the last update of Designer, when my files are open on another computer with the same variable font, it doesn't recognize them correctly, so I have to reselect them. Now I understand working with a static version fixes the problem, in case other people have the same problem.

With more information - including the font, the OSs on each system, etc. Include Affinity application and version numbers on each system. A sample doc would be helpful.
