BnBGobo99 got a reaction from DEWLine in Affinity Designer - Going Away Plaque (Star Trek Themed)
    Hello everybody!
One of my Airmen is leaving to a new duty station, and following tradition we are presenting him with an appreciation going-away gift.  His family are big Star Trek fans, so I thought giving him a Star Trek themed piano finish plaque a-la a "PADD" would be neat.
Everything is a vector.  For the hangar, I edited out everybody from the squadron photograph I did and combined it with some test shots without folks to get a full hangar without people.  I tossed that image into Inkscape to get a vector from the photograph after doing some edge detection, levels, and black-and-white adjustments in Affinity Photo.  I am seeking a blueprint of the hangar so I can make a nice clean one, this vector is a mess but it worked in a pinch.
The Star Trek bits are taken from an LCARS program called LCARS 47.  I had to convert them to vector, but that wasn't difficult at all since the shapes are easy.
The Starfleet Intelligence pin is by the DeviantArt user cbunye (pending permission from him for me to engrave it.)
    Mockup done in Blender.

BnBGobo99 reacted to Friksel in Export layers to images?
@duebergang As @Fixx wrote too there doesn't seem to be a direct way in Photo (yet) to export all layers directly to files.
But there is a workaround you might find handy to do this [see video below]:
    * Go to the export persona and create slices from all your layers (if you like the slices to be full width/height, just make the slices bigger per layer)
(* Tell Designer which output format you'd like)
    * Export the slices to files with the 'Export slices' button
    * You now have all layers exported as single output files. Even layers that lie on top of each other in your layout get exported as the current layer content only

This is the result you get from the actions in the video below, so as you can see, there is no overlap in layers visible in the output files. If you don't want to export only the curves inside the layers, but include the empty parts of the layer too, just expand the slices to full width/height of the layer.

(I just tried and tested this in Photo 1.7 Beta, but I'm positive this already works in 1.6.x)
    Hope this helps!

I call this "Dream in a Bottle."  Wanted to practice on surrealism, shading and lighting and get the feel of the new "edit in photo/designer" feature, passing back and forth between AD and AP. The feature is so nice but I did find a bonafide bug. After several passes back and forth between AD and AP, the files start to corrupt and the UI and the thumbnail windows of the layers panel start doing weird things like vector shapes turn into Text icons, etc. I can reproduce this problematic bug every time after about 5 or 6 bounces back and forth.

    Hello all,
I made a silly little video to make fun of ourselves at work for doing something ridiculous at a ceremony.  It's an inside joke so the video itself won't make much sense, but I wanted to share the artwork part of it.  (backstory: we are the "krakens" and every time a member of our unit won an award we would run this octopus/squid thing across the stage much like a Chinese New Year lion dance.  It didn't go as well as we anticipated and turned to a bit of a joke after a bit, so this was just pointing fun at the whole thing.)
I licensed some animal shapes through Envato (that's why I have the copyright banners on the designs, since I licensed it for the video only) and manipulated a few animals together to make our kraken.  I then took some paper strip images and a stick image (both through Envato as well) and used Affinity Photo to merge it all together to make the sprites.
The biggest challenge was getting the two sides of the paper strips to come together to look like a single ripped piece but still blend into one.  I ended up adjusting the levels and black/white output sliders until the two strips had the same tone/gradient and appeared as one.  All these sprites were then taken into Blender and animated into the video you see attached.
I hope you enjoy it, even if you weren't there to get the full effect of the backstory.

I totally forgot to post this here, which is really dumb of me, because this is probably one of the most important places that this should be posted!

I worked with the lovely folks over at Serif/Affinity to create this official sample artwork for the release of Affinity Designer 1.7.
You can access the working file of this illustration both on the desktop as well as iPad versions of Designer by browsing the sample artwork section, which will allow you to have a look 'under the hood' to see how the illustration was put together. The artwork also shows up for a moment in the latest Affinity 1.7 video advertisement, and in two of their latest tutorial videos.
Though Designer is primarily a vector based app, I created this piece entirely in the Pixel Persona using raster brushes to show just how versatile the app can be.

You can see more of this over on my Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/christidutoit

...and if you'd like to read my ramblings, I did an interview on the Affinity Spotlight blog too:

@Jowday Sorry it took so long for me to reply, thanks for the post!  I lived on 12th street and then 20th street--it's interesting to see photos and film of the area from that time of the base.  Those small trees planted about the base then are now giants.  There's my hangar in the video!  Looks pretty untouched, hmm, we've been misled I think, lol.

I signed up for some quick freelance work for a friend’s game... Made a few inventory items of sort, but using the iPad instead of the usual PC setup.
    Figured some stuff:
Layer management becomes really troublesome when the number of layers/shapes increases. So I opted to separate each items as different files. Pro: Numbers of shapes and layers are manageable Con: you’ll have to open each files and then export all manually one by one. I wish there’s a batch export from the project preview (same as the screenshot) Ran into some trouble exporting assest as SVG. I realized that layer blending mode weren’t supported yet. Those with blending mode are rasterized upon export as svg. These assets will be exported in different dimension to be used in-game. It’s very tedious to do that in affinity designer for iPad... so i’d like the exported assets to be in vector and compatible with different vector softwares out there. I use figma.com to setup and automate image processing. Had to remove all blending modes and had to rely on fill opacity instead. They’re not a lot so it’s fine. Line weight tool is a favorite of mine... it gets annoying when i reach a number of nodes. Even the apple pencil is having a hard time with it. i wish there are other ways to manage line weight for complex shapes. Otherwise, I had a blast making these. The sketch to finish workflow is very streamlined.

    Hi there,
I've created a series of labels done 100% done with Affinity Designer (layout, illustrations and text). Affnity Desiger has become one of my favourite tools for its speed and simplicity.
The product is a Marmelade sweetened with honey (no sugar) and is already on the market.
Below is a little promotional folder done in Affinity Publisher. I already love this program and finally a real photo of the product!
    Have fun

@Jowday, thanks for taking a crack at it--I saw the leveling of the formation, looks good   I like the lightening of the paneling inside the open bay doors, it enhances the contrast for that photo from the other two.
My first attempt (y'all are seeing attempt #3) was cropped like your second post.  I had just the center group, but when I added the side formations at later days' shots I had to include the entire hangar to make it fit the 8x10.  Interestingly enough, this was used as a gift for our outgoing Chief, and included in the frame was the original blueprint for the hangar from 1930's, so having the blueprint on the bottom of the frame and the whole hangar as a photo on the top turned out to be aesthetically pleasing and fit well.
For history buffs, our hangar was burned out during the Dec 7 Pearl Harbor attack, with several other hangars behind ours hit worse or just as bad.  Below is a photo of Hangar 11 or 15 which is a few rows behind ours.

Good work!  I usually cheat by using Inkscape to do the bitmap-to-vector conversion (something I hope future versions of Affinity Designer will add)... I've only tried to re-draw one from scratch by hand, so I give props to you.    I know nothing of Pikachu, so I can't comment on the accuracy, but I like how your design looks.
