My brother bought a new place and requested I make him a poster on human evolution using the skulls. It took a while to research and decide what would work and to weed through alternative ways to present to timeline. The images were draw  in AP and it was set up in Apub.  The illustrations separately are on 15x15" canvases and the printed poster will be 12x18".

AI is cool. AI is scary. AI is not always necessary.
The Generate tool in Photoshop is cool when you use a selection and no prompt. Using with a prompt requires a tutorial because it's limited to what you can say and how you say it. (I use it at work. Not at home.)
I don't want Serif to jump on the bandwagon and add AI functionality just to be like all the others out there. Like their Affinity line, I hope that they are just hanging back to let the world rush their ideas along and waiting until the time is right to strike with a more original approach to AI.
We love their software because it gave us something that the almighty Adobe still hasn't: a fully integrated suite that allows you to edit an image without leaving your layout. No one has replicated that as far as I know. So even without AI, they still offer a revolutionary product for designers, in my opinion.
Topaz Labs, I believe, has the best enlargement tool (Gigapixel). Their AI-based tools are great and are also not subscription-based. And their AI isn't based off of AIs of today.
I don't want Affinity to miss out on possible AI opportunities but I also don't want them to just copy what all the others out there are doing.

nomi02118 reacted to James Ritson in 32-bit HDR PNG support added
It was introduced last year: https://www.w3.org/TR/png-3/
So far, FCPX and Davinci Resolve appear to support this (I haven't tried other editors yet), as well as macOS Sonoma and various web browsers, so it's getting fairly decent adoption. It looks to be a good solution for interchanging HDR broadcast imagery in a lossless format. OpenEXR is supported by most NLEs but has non-user-friendly colour management.
JPEG-XL was possibly going to be a good solution, but Chrome dropped it (not long before/after we released V2, I think) and support for it isn't widespread.
The cICP chunk in this PNG format allows the image to be tagged and processed with various video-centric colour spaces, which is more robust for broadcast workflows where the imagery needs to integrate seamlessly with video content, rather than being dependent on ICC (particularly for HDR content where you have HLG/PQ colour spaces with different transfer characteristics).

    I am doubly appreciative:
Of this approach to get fixes out in a patch rather than waiting for the next feature update (which itself is more likely to have issues). That you have been giving us an estimate of upcoming progress.

A bit of tidying up including adding the external viewfinder. That will do.

A quick one keeping things simple, a few conical gradients etc. Might tidy things up if I decide I like it.

nomi02118 reacted to Amy Choue in Creating ePub and other formats from Publisher V2
I came upon this while searching for ways to create epub, and when Affinity Publisher will have epub export. I have used MS word for this, which seems to work fine with text-heavy books and if the book is released only at KDP. But even with an extremely limited experience in all tech-related things, I seem to see coarseness and waywardness in epubs based on Word.
When will Affinity have epub reflowable option? What great news the release of that would be to those waiting for it, who search for it to find out the state of things as regards to it. Please release it in the near future!

Unfortunately there's no setting to change the default behaviour of Groups currently - as Walt mentions this is expected to use the 'Passthrough' blend mode, though can then be manually changed by the user as required.
There is an internal improvement request to allow the user to change the default blend mode used when Grouping, so I'll be sure to add your 'vote' to this now.
    I hope this helps

New work - Our Lady of Brighthelmstone.
This was my recent submission for a call to artists put out by a new gallery opening in the city of Brighton & Hove - sadly rejected.
The theme was metamorphosis, so I painted the city morphed into a fabulous drag queen, in the style of an Uber-kitsch religious painting (taking “Our Lady of Guadeloupe” as my main inspiration - Brighthelmstone is the old name for the city of Brighton).
There are a total of 33 visual “easter eggs” contained within the picture, some architectural, some cultural. If any of you are familiar with the place, have fun spotting them!

I was going to simplify it but changed my mind. Have only finished the bottom left and top right of those windows. Still quite a few books window to redraw too. Who knew that bookshops had so many books! Back to using AD v1 as it's just nicer in a number of ways and as my requirements are simple it's no loss.

    Hi @nomi02118,
Looks like there's an issue with the cloud curves layer getting expanded (which happens when exporting curves to PDF), this can be observed prior to exporting to PDF by just expanding the curve under Layer > Expand stroke. I've been able to fix the issue with the curves layer by using Layer > Geometry > Separate and then re-merging them together via Layer > Geometry > Merge. When exporting (or expanding) the curve no longer causes this problem. I've attached the .afdesign for reference.
The issue shouldn't be happening in the first place, so I'll get this file logged with the developers.

nomi02118 reacted to Ash in We are live, and thank you!!!
    Hi All,
We have just made 2.2 live across all App Stores and our website. As always, the feedback we have received from you all during this beta has been an incredible help in both shaping the new features as well as squashing many bugs!
The build we have released is the same as RC3 (build 2005), meaning for the time being whether you use the latest beta version or switch to using the release version they are the same. If you anticipate taking part in the next beta you may wish to keep your current beta version installed, as this will be updated on auto update when a new beta is available. This will either be a 2.2 patch if we feel one is needed, or moving straight onto a 2.3 beta.
It would be impossible for us to do what we do without your support, and I just wanted to say a huge thanks for everything you have contributed to this release.
    All the best,
    Ash

Another try at drawing in Photo in the iPad and I think it's going better. Thanks to the staff I was able to get the blur brush working again and though subtle is did help with some blending issues. This is definitely a case where not good photo can make a much more interesting illustration. Isolating the marcher form everyone else made for a much better composition.
