seabirdr reacted to DieterW in Isolation / group edit mode (similar to Illustrator)
Alt-clicking an object/layer is not useful at all, as far as I can tell. Unless I did something wrong. It seems to be for viewing only. As soon as you click anywhere, everything is shown again. So it is not possible to isolate a group and edit it without showing/interference of other objects. Wouldn't it be useful to isolate objects like Alt-click does now, but staying in this mode unless you press ESC or something similar.
Right now editing groups is cumbersame. As soon as you deselect an object you are out of the group, and have to double-click to select an object within the group again. Having multiple nested groups is quickly becoming annoying. With such an isolation mode I would always stay within the group and could directly select the objects by just clicking them. That would be some relief....!

    Hello, I have a problem.
Here are the technical data first:
Affinity Designer from Affinity Store Vers. 1.9.2.1035
Edition Windows 10 Pro, version 21H1 Installed on October 2nd, 2020
    OS build 19043.1052
Performance Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0
Processor AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon (tm) HD Graphics 3.90 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.2 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    Error Description:
When placing objects that are placed next to each other, a white line appears. (See screenshots)
It does not matter whether with or without magnetic alignment.
If both objects are rotated at the same time, the appearance of the line changes and looks pixelated.
You can see the line best when there are the same colors in the objects. Least of all when there are very different colors facing each other.
When zooming in or out, the line sometimes disappears, depending on which magnification has just been reached. But not always.
When exporting to png, jpg, this line is then also visible.
    This error can be reproduced.
This was not the case with the last update or before. It started all at once.
The error remains in all raster views (isometric, cube, standard)
All alignment options have been tried.
I've tried all possible settings - to no avail.
New or saved document - no success.
    A downgrade didn't help.
Postponing the initial installation did not help either.
Quitting and restarting Affinity Designer - nothing.
Quit and restart Win 10 - nothing.
There is no exceptional software / hardware.
The only thing a few days ago was a new Win 10 update that was installed automatically.

Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug in the software?
I would like to thank you in advance for your efforts.

    Hallo, ich habe ein Problem.
    Hier zuerst die technischen Daten:

Affinity Designer from Affinity Store Vers. 1.9.2.1035

Edition Windows 10 Pro, Version 21H1

    Installiert am ‎02.‎10.‎2020

Leistung Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0

Prozessor AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 3.90 GHz

Installierter RAM 16,0 GB (15,2 GB verwendbar)

    Systemtyp 64-Bit-Betriebssystem, x64-basierter Prozessor

    Win 10 Update Version:

    Fehlerbeschreibung:

    Hi Friksel, nod74,
This was indeed being worked/fixed at the time of the post (it's being tested as we speak). The fix will be included in v1.8 Beta for Mac (not available at time of writing) and in v1.8 Beta for Windows (at time of writing the current Windows 1.8 Beta doesn't include this fix). Some issues imply rewriting parts of the code or the whole feature - they are not just simple corrections or addons to existing code and take more time and testing than usual. With Publisher's recent release a lot of time and effort was spent on solving its issues and on its integration with the rest of the suite which ended up delaying Designer and Photo 1.8 Betas a bit. As explained several times we have limited dev resources and some fixes may end up taking more time than we hoped for but that doesn't mean we don't care about customer's issues/problems. We are simply doing our best with the resources we have. Thanks for understanding.

Hi adirusf, thank you for your attention to this issue. I know that when documents become complex, they can lead to performance degradation. But when I had performance problems today, i had only a few shapes in my document.
After exploring, I found that the delay occurred because the appearance panel was turned on and set fills for a shape. As long as it existed, the document slowed down. When it was turned off, the delay was greatly relieved.
Below I attach the GIF screen recording and the test file.

Hi all, there's another thread that has identified the Appearance Panel as the culprit - and we've just put in a fix today for this, so expect it to be in the next available beta. Thanks.

    Well spotted
I can confirm on Windows 8.1
Noticeable lag when appearance panel is on screen, even with a simple shape with one simple fill

seabirdr got a reaction from rubs in Mouse sensitivity
Agree with the views of rubs. For illustration workers, slight movements are difficult to observe and do not cause major problems. However, for UI designers, a small amount of error can have catastrophic consequences, such as incorrect size of the slices, alignment problems, and so on.
As a UI designer who uses Affinity Designer heavily, I have been forced to develop the habit of constantly alerting the size and position of objects, and I am very careful about every mouse click, because the mouse is too sensitive.
The problem of slight movements was raised a few years ago, and it did improve in later versions, but as rubs said, it has not been fully resolved. Long-running Affinity Designer will slow down, and the probability of a light-shift problem will increase dramatically.

Another user has mentioned the same issue, that some things are not just possible with column guides. I'll get your comments passed on!
