Wow! Affinity Designer looks very good from the git-go. It's fast, well organized and pleasant to use. The text handling has some excellent features already. Scrolling through the font menu and watching selected text change live, quite a treat.

The main addition it needs for me to replace AI is arrowheads. I don't need a lot of useless style options such as Adobe offers, just filled triangles that have some adjustment options.

        •  placeable on beziers as well as straight lines
        •  auto scale to line thickness
        •  user adjustable scale acting on default size  (+% and -%, i.e.)
        •  user adjustable head angle (again, maybe relative to default)

And maybe, if not too much trouble:
        •  an option to have arrowhead extend line OR
have the line shorten to place the arrow tip at the end of the original segment.

    Thanks for listening,
    Byrne

[edit] P.S. Another discussion of arrowheads suggests ability to round corners. Not strictly necessary for me but nice. Acts on all three corners, maybe adjustable as a proportion of the arrowhead's size.

How about a way to permanently reset (make orthagonal) the selection box. Maybe double clicking on the responsible button?

This make no sense to me, at least for my use. "Correctly" must be in the eye of the beholder. The reset boundry box still fits "exactly around the shape" unless you're speaking to the simple case of rotating a rectangle versus a vector drawing. Even then the fit is exact although not orthagonal.

Flatten the old icons if you must but please preserve the elements that help identify function. Sure, folks can learn to relate any icon to any particular program but what's the advantage of not having visual clues? Pencils, drawing; lens, photos. . . I get it right away.
I don't understand the heavy black border, especially on the left side.

Ronny, I can find neither an Update Fonts button nor a Replace Fonts panel. I've looked in both the current beta (1.3.5.18) and the current release version. I do see a Reset Fonts button but it doesn't seem to do anything.

The tool you refer to, although ungainly to use, is indeed useful. . . in maybe 5% of instances where arrowheads are needed. Those of us who regularly use arrowheads need them as attributes of lines, bezier as well as linear.

I way over-generalized in my earlier email, saying gradients irredeemably date an icon. The use of varied brightness in Plokhi's versions here are subtle and effective – just enough to suggest light. These are starting to look closer to 2015.

The only thing I still don't care for is all the sharp corners. My unfortunate association with these shapes is with the cover of a 1990's math textbook. :^/
What about softening the contours with that jiffy new corner tool?
