Hi!

Coming from Figma and Sketch, I litterally can’t work without Symbols. Now, I have like 30 symbols to create… and I cannot believe I have to use the mouse to select an create each one of them.

Can you add a keyboard shortcut for Create Symbol command? Like Cmd + K…

While at it, it would be nice if we could add multiple Symbols at once with another keyboard shortcut: Cmd + Alt + K

In Sketch / Figma, this is done by inputing a forward slash "/" inside a name, like this: "Control / Button"

It would help A LOT to work faster.

@MEB thanks, that works!
 
But, why need to check that box to specify what kind of units should be used? If I enter % as a unit inside the radius input, it should be able to detect it's a relative unit. Else, all other supported units are absolute.

Is there a shortcut key for create symbol? I can only see the button on the symbols panel and nowhere else to access it?

Agree, Aaron. To beat the others in UI/UX field, Serif needs to implement three key things: 
A really fast, low latency multi-player editing mode with state-of-the-art built-in conflict resolving so file damage will never happen whatever everyone does. Existing incremental file saving model may be super beneficial here in order to reduce network overhead. Symbols should be taken to the next level. They should evolve into powerful interactive components with multiple states support and proper encapsulation (nesting). There’s also a need for powerful prototyping tools with optional, customizable animations/micro-interactions. All the rest and truly great stuff is already here (think about existing StudioLink, very powerful text editing and image editing abilities and other useful stuff).

I was also thinking that at first. However, there are about 3-5 ways of doing the same things in Photoshop. Affinity Photo shouldn’t force the user to a single way of doing these things.

Maybe Affinity Photo team should hire heavy Photoshop users, let them test thoroughly, listen carefully to their feedback then adjust AP accordingly.

Have you guys considered the feasibility of creating a live collaboration feature in Affinity Publisher using Dropbox or Google Drive or OneDrive? Something similar to what Word and Excel desktops do.
 

I think it really is a lose scenario when you open up everything they have the drawing board, realistic or not. People, myself included, will criticize while others praise. No one is ever happy and you get the odd person who buys the program and then you hear from a few months later disappointed because they thought it was coming. Poor reasoning when buying software on the hopes they will one day be able to do what they need to do today, but it happens. Serif has done some amazing things recently that have surprised me. I thought for sure features like data merge and PDF pass through would be V2 features, giving reason to pay for an upgrade. These are both in beta but they are coming and you are not paying for that upgrade. I had no issue with the idea of it being a paid upgrade for V2, this along with the price of the software is incredibly generous. 
I would suggest being vocal in the feature request area and following the betas, you may just be surprised one day when what you really need to do is in there.

Yes, the “votes” on ideas (+ accompanying qualitative feedback) are just inputs for your product team to see what users think would be most valuable. As you say, it would remain the prerogative of your product team to incorporate these inputs with other factors like strategic considerations, innovation (to the extent that some features are so groundbreaking, users won’t know to ask for them), effort estimates, dependencies etc. You’d have to set the right expectations with the community, but you might find it extremely valuable for prioritizing the right things to work on next. I imagine it's quite difficult for your product team to analyze/quantify the unstructured inputs they receive on the Feature Requests & Suggestions forum.

@MEB have you considered using something like a Product Portal by Productboard? It allows you to signal ideas you're interested in moving forward with, without committing to specific dates. End users can provide votes and additional feedback on individual ideas or submit new ones. It's optimized to help the product team make sense of all the inputs behind the scenes — prioritize the right features, build them in the optimal way. Worth a look!

This is the response of colour picker tool. It samples only black from masks and adjustments layers.
Blend modes do not work either having no effect in masks:

I admit, this is Photoshop workflow. I would welcome any hint how to do this in Affinity Photo.

I agree this is an essential feature. I was swearing a tiny bit this afternoon while trying to retouch a simple picture which would have taken about 1/3 of the time in Photoshop.

Please Affinity Photo team: this feature has been requested since 2016. 4 years ago.

Suggested features for Affinity Photo:
Color Picker sampling white, grays, or black directly from a Mask while you're working on it. Masks allowing certain blending modes like Screen, Multiply, Lighten and Darken. Undo Brush allowing painting from the History in a Mask. One of the great things about masks is how much control they can give you over opacity when you want something to be partially visible, using grays you sample from the Mask can be a huge time saver, especially when paired with brush blending modes like Lighten and Darken. Unfortunately, some of that control is currently missing in Affinity Photo. When you use the Color Picker to sample while you're working on a Mask, whether you have Global or Current Layer as your source, it uses the whole image to sample a color. It would be far more useful to have it sample the tones directly from the Mask, and even better if it allowed you to use brush blending modes as well. Lastly, the Undo Brush currently behaves like a normal brush when you use it on a Mask, with some very strange distortion in the strokes (a bug?), and would be extremely useful if you could paint from the Mask's History like a regular layer.

Working with Masks is greater than in any other application I have worked with so far, the ease of having child layers and being able to stack a mask over the other truly is amazing.
However...
One thing that I have found disorienting is that when I use the colour picker tool, rather than picking a value of black an white from the mask that I am working on, Afphoto decides to pick a colour from the Parent Layer (Even when the Source is set to "Current Layer" while having the mask selected).
Even though working a mask will only paint with the luminosity value of the sample taken, as you may well know, the values on the Parent Layer are part of a whole and having the Colour Picker Tool to take a sample from the Parent Layer and not the Mask you are working on results in picking an unwanted value when I am actually trying to pick a shade of gray that has already been used on said mask
In the long run this means that for me to be able to take the desired sample, I must go to the colour wheel / sliders manually and try to guess what that value was or take my attention away from the whole and having to isolate the mask to get the value that I want.
If the colour picker could be adjusted in a way that it picks the shades of gray FROM the mask while working INSIDE the mask it could certainly enhance workflow speed and consistency.

About this feature, would it be possible to simply Alt-Drag the "fx" icon from a layer to another to duplicate the effect? Also, just moving the "fx" icon should just move the effect to another layer. Photoshop has this feature since a long while.
