I have always tried not to get sucked into these types of discussions, since they are usually about as fruitful as arguing politics or religion. But, I’m a little tired tonight and I thought I’d throw my 2 cents in. William, your notion that you should be paid for merely suggesting a software feature is beyond ludicrous. I apologize if I am being rude, but arguing the fine points of the difficulty in getting paid for making a suggestion is pedantry in the extreme. The whole nature of making a suggestion is being charitable (unless you are a paid consultant, and I’ll go out on a limb and guess that you are not).
Now I have a suggestion. I think you should continue to make a series of long-winded and silly posts throughout the forum and follow up with post after post trying to decide how many angels can dance on the head of your particular pins. It would seem to me that you have two choices - you can (1) continue down the road you’ve been on for several years now (and, or course, pay me handsomely for making the suggestion), or (2) just stop (and save your money).

You can also use the "Contour Tool": draw three slightly overlapping squares at the corners that need to be connected, make a compound and then use the "Contour Tool" to move it from the outside inwards to achieve the desired effect.

That will work, if rasterizing on export is not an issue, e.g. for web.
If you want to keep the text as vector on export, I'd go e.g. via symbols and boolean compound:

ade_symbols_compound_erase_effect_text.mp4 (Side note: I just noticed a bug with boolean compound not updating text attributes. Reported here.)

Oh, for heaven's sake, this thread is infuriatingly nonsensical and shockingly unserious. And bloody annoying. You all evidently lack the experience of conversing with people outside the realms of the Internet. Please, just stop fueling this thread by engaging with someone you clearly know is beyond rational discussion, and allow Serif to handle the moderation.
It's impossible to ignore or block threads here, so you're subjecting everyone to the thoroughly miserable experience of seeing this thread resurface time and time again.

I think Patrick was pretty clear on this "share your work" theme here (see also above) ...
So I'm wondering why you're still harping on this theme, as it should have been closed long ago here.

"These Forums are not for sharing AI created artwork, or discussions regarding AI prompts to create specific images.
The 'Share your work' section of the Forums are designed for sharing work specifically created within or using the Affinity apps.
When sharing work, we ask users to provide an explanation of the tools/workflows they used with the Affinity apps, so that other members can have a better idea of the possibilities of the Affinity apps functions - though this is not a strict requirement."
Opening a picture or photo and then printing or exporting it unedited is not sufficient to be covered under the term "using", even though technically English is unclear on this. "using" in that sentence means adding to or changing in a significant or non-obvious, novel or interesting way that others may appreciate.

No it was not. If you want to play semantics (which you always do) then I could change the definition of what is allowed to make sure they are excluded. Stop bellyaching. Just assume that we will not allow them no matter what the wording says, because that is what is happening, like it or not.

I'm not advocating making it more complicated, but in fact the reverse: If you're having Photo issues, look / search the Photo forum, likewise for Designer or Publisher. That way, the problem resolution process is more efficient. Less irrelevant scanning, reading (whatever) of content that's not directly focused on the solution you're seeking.
To be more direct (?), if a solution is available in Designer, great. But as a Photo user it's not relevant to me unless is also a Photo solution. So why read about it?

TBH, why shoud it become more complicated for the interviewers (btw. what is an interviewer???). A forum split up in products or at least topics tagged with the product and OS makes it by far easier for everybody. For those searching for answers (by e.g. filtering by tags) and for those answering questions. This is my personal experience as moderator and a user providing help in various forums.

I've asked the same question and indeed, you've responded to me likewise. I can see the logic but my off-the-cuff experience says otherwise. Multi- / cross-application issues are the exception rather than the rule. Most of what I see is app-specific and given I use only one of three Affinity apps, two thirds of it is basically irrelevant to me. I spend more time finding Photo posts than actually reading. So I, too, would like the forums to be broken out by app. Or at a minimum, as others have indicated, enforce tagging and let us filter on tags.

The obvious refutation of this ancient argument is that the first response to many posts is:
What Affinity application are you using?
What operating system are you using?
So one must read the first three or four posts on every thread before reaching a point where one can begin to answer the question being asked by the OP.
This issue has been argued for years. It is always decided in favor of ever more consolidation into a single forum regardless of application, operating system, and goal. Perhaps that is why so few participate in answering questions. It is just too tedious to weed through so many ambiguous questions to find a place where one might contribute a solution. The situation is worsened by the inability of so many to write an informative subject for a new thread.

I suspect you would find it quite difficult to find even one other regular contributor to this community that shares that opinion, or perhaps more to the point that if accepted would not lead to huge numbers of posts that were of interest to very few if any Affinity users, making it considerably more difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.
Regardless, you asked here for opinions about what is acceptable to post the the Share Your Work forum, & you have gotten many replies to that, none of which agree with yours, despite all your followup posts trying to justify yours.
Perhaps it's time to give it a rest & move on to more productive uses of your time & ours?

Can you please consider stopping this behavior? You are straining the nerves of many people by ignoring essential rules.

OK, so, I ask a friend to paint a picture for me, because I'm a pretty useless artist myself. I say that I would like a picture of a woman, feeding a deer in a forest. he looks through his large library of books, finds several pictures of a woman, a deer and a forest, all by different people. He then uses these pictures, rearranging them and adding a few effects, to paint the picture I asked for. He gives me the picture, I scan it, open the scan in Affinity Photo, print it out, and put it in a cheap plastic frame. When someone else comes to visit and says that they like the picture, I proudly say that it is my artwork that I created using Affinity Photo. Am I being honest? All I did was describe what I wanted, my friend copied other peoples work to produce the picture, and I just used APhoto as a means to print it out!

But an interesting discussion of what?
There's not much interesting in putting an image onto a larger page, and producing a PDF.
If you were wanting a discussion of your AI-generated art, that is not something that is related to the Affinity applications, and not really appropriate here.

The number of views a thread has received cannot be taken, by any reasonable person, as a measure of popularity, intent of participation, or even interest in the subject of that thread.
Just because a traffic accident happens near someone as they were out walking doesn’t mean they were wanting/expecting to see it.
Just because lots of people will watch footage of a disaster on the evening TV news doesn’t mean that they want to be part of it.
Just because a CCTV system records footage of a dog playing with a ball doesn’t mean that the CCTV system was installed to record footage of dogs playing with balls.
Since you have no knowledge of who, or what, is accessing a thread, or why they/it are doing so, it would be foolish to infer any intent/interest from that action.
Without context, the number of views is just a number, no more than that.

Why are you so obsessed with how many views a thread you start gets? Just because people look at a thread it does not mean that they agree with you, or even that they are interested in it. I'm sure that many people, like myself, look at many threads, but having seen the content, then decide that they are actually of no interest!

Sadly again the same procedure as every time. - The forum and forums section rules are usually clearly defined and pretty much every one understands those ... instead of you as it seems. I don't know why you do always speak against everything people tell (and already have told) you here and do always question every one of the forum rules. - In addition, you always overtax the general patience of Affinity forum members.

G13RL reacted to smadell in Currency Effect - a FREE macro (NEW VERSION)
    Updated Version Available (December 2023)
Recently, @christerdk posted in the "Desktop Questions" forum about trying to achieve the engraved look of U.S. currency. He was given a variety of suggestions (including one or two commercial products). Because of this, I am attaching a macro that I created several years ago and have refined a bit more recently. It is meant to approximate the look of engraved currency.
The macro uses a number of adjustments and filters, all enclosed within a Group. Because of this, the effect can be turned on and off by simply using the Hide/Show checkbox on the group itself.
The attached .afmacros file is a Macro Category and therefore should be imported from the Library panel. It contains a single macro (called "Currency Effect"). Once imported, the macro can be moved to a different category, if desired. The macro was created in Affinity Photo version 2.2 which probably means that it will not be compatible with AP version 1. However, since it is provided as a category, it can be imported into Affinity Photo 2 for iPad.

Clicking on the macro will bring up a user dialog in which you can set certain parameters:
    1) Set Line Size (default = 20)
The macro uses a live Halftone filter, and this will vary the width of the lines used. In general, use larger lines for larger images.
    2) Set Line Angle (default = 30 degrees)
This affects the angle at which the lines are drawn. Try various settings to achieve subtle but important differences in output.
    3) Set Contrast (default = 85)
This setting also affects the embedded Halftone filter, and can change the contrast between the dark lines and the background.
    4) Adjust Overall Brightness (default = -20)
This affects a Brightness and Contrast adjustment, and will lighten or darken the final image, to your taste.
When you hit the Apply button, the effect is added to your image at the top of the layer stack. Note that the effect contains only adjustments and filters; because of that, it is completely non-destructive. You can make changes to the underlying image and this will not adversely affect the result. Also, you can open the individual adjustment and filter layers to make changes even after you have hit the Apply button.
Here is an example of a Before and After image, with the User Dialog showing the settings used to create this particular variant.

As always, I am one person using one computer and a single iPad. I have tested this macro on both of my devices, but cannot claim that this testing has examined every possible scenario. Nevertheless, I believe that it will work as suggested. Try it and, if you like it, keep it and enjoy it. It is free for you to use in any project you would like – personal or commercial.
I ask only 2 things. If you've used the macro, please let me know by posting your impressions. Perhaps, even provide a before and after screenshot. Second, please remember that this forum is a wonderful way to learn, and an even better way to share that learning. Pay it forward.
    December 2023 Update
The .afmacros file attached below is now an updated category. It can still be imported into the Affinity Photo Library panel (or into the iPad version) but it now contains 3 macros. (1) The original version of the Currency Effect is included. (2) An updated version 2 of the macro is also provided. This update adds a live Ripple filter which makes the engraved lines a bit wavy, better simulating true engraving. (3) There is an Instructions macro, which will place on-screen instructions into your Layers panel.
Please feel free to download the new file, and to replace the previous Currency Effect category with the new one. Have fun!
