I'm playing with Member Titles at the moment. I think staff can see everyone's on their profile and customers can see their own on posts (or something like that) it's not settled yet, but not everyone can see everything on posts afaik. Please don't worry it's a work in progress

Just FYI I cannot see my own Member Title.

It is not something I would worry about even if it never shows.

Here some snapshots from the forum found through waybackmachine

Thanks.

That's a slightly different icon, by the way.

And not one that I recall seeing, so it may be related to the way you're viewing the forums vs the way I view them. Or some kind of account setting that has changed.

No it was present even when not logged in as you can see from one of the screenshots.
And I used the "unreadcontentbutton" to show what I meant because the real one isn't present on the forum anymore.

Thanks for that clarification. Still, for me, the Unread Content icon that you showed has always been present and still is (as long as I'm logged-in, of course).

I can accept that you were seeing something different. So, what approach do you use for viewing the forums? I generally use Unread Content. What have you been doing that is now acting differently?

If you mean the black mark at the right of the image, that has been there for years, ever since they changed the available space for custom user icons from square to round. That's also why there is small flat spot at the top of the head -- I could never adjust the overall size to what I wanted after that change.

But more to the point, for me the custom Member Title does not appear, not for my posts or AFAIK for anybody else that has one.

Hi Patrick

The new forum looks great so congrats on getting it up and running.

What could be handy is the date of posts made more prominent, and add the year as well. I search a topic, sort the results by date, but have no indication of how old the posts are, not even the year of them. Also some manner to show what software version the poster is using, if it's an old version then I might want to skip reading that post.

Overall it's a very useful forum with some dedicated and supportive users that jump in with good feedback for us newbie users. Like Walt Farrell above, he knows the software very well and always jumps in to assist. I know the majority of users are serious in their field because many are ex Adobe clients looking for an alternative, they own or recently owned InDesign and seem to be using Affinity software successfully. Glad that I didn't go that route and found your company instead!

Also, I see very few hard-core complainers and flaming arrow launchers here -- that's a big relief. Heck, how can anybody complain about a viable InDesign replacement, new and regularly being improved, from an established software house, that costs only 55 euros and no subscription is required? When the AfPub iPad version is ready for sale I'll be one of the first to buy it!

Thanks and keep up the great work at Affinity!

Kind Regards, Kevin

What the user uses for the version of Affinity applications (and what), what OS and possibly what HW, can be stated in his signature (see for example bottom my post). Unfortunately, this is constantly updated information - not remembered from the time of post writing.

If the year does not show, the post was made in the current year. Dates and times are displayed relative to your date/time when looking at them. Posts made in your "today" don't have a day, just how many hours ago. Posts made in your current week, show a day, but not a date. Posts made later show the date, but omit the year if it was your current year.

Personally (and in general), this way of interpreting time does not suit me. If I follow a timeline and find out the relationships between events, then I need to find out what date is today and so what date was "yesterday", holding me back. It would therefore be appropriate for the time display method (absolute vs sometimes relative + sometimes absolute) to be set.

At least in Safari on a Mac, if I hover the mouse pointer over the date, after a short delay the full date & time of the post appears in an abbreviated format like 11/20/21 06:51 AM, in my local time units. I do not know if this is specific to Macs, to Safari, or to any system date & time preference I have set, so maybe it works differently (if at all) for others?

The fact that you keep post-editing your posts is making it really hard to follow this thread. Can you ADD information instead of CHANGING it after people have replied?

@Hens

It's not you it's the forums and some browsers (Chrome in particular). It depends on how the OP added the file, but it's not their fault, it's a regression in the forums.

I will mend the links shortly (I've been doing all broken .mov files for the last few weeks)

Hi @Patrick Connor

Is it possible to set the forum so that when editing a post, the edit flag is set by default (checked checkbox)? Currently, this flag is constantly being deselected (even if it has already been set once), so it is usually not clear, that the post has been edited/changed.

I think that this information is very important for the readability and comprehensibility of the contributions. Personally, I would not even allow the option of unchecking the flag, I would just leave it up to the user to add / not add a note to the modification.

That is not an option. The only option is to stop it being editable silently (which is currently set to TRUE)

Can edit silently?

Normally a message will indicate if content has been edited. If enabled, members in this group will be able to hide this message. Staff members who have permission are always able to see the edit.

If I turned that OFF it would show every time a post was edited. I think that would lead to more problems not fewer. I am treating the users here as grown-ups (Note moderators/staff can see edits anyway irrespective of the value of the option you mention!)

I agree, but the current function of the forum (constant unchecking) prevents users from doing so, because they have to keep this in mind and set the flag consistently and even repeatedly. At the same time, there is no reason to hide from other users the fact that the post has been modified (as does Facebook, for example, and others).

I routinely edit my posts if I notice a spelling misteake in them (even years later).

No need for anyone else to see I edited the post in those instances and users seeing that it had been edited might just confuse them as to what I changed.

Tell the truth the forum regulars here are all in an "advanced" group (that you get promotion to when you have made enough posts). I could change that "can edit silently" for only that group, so long term users could "edit without trace" . That would and leave the normal "Members" not able to, but that is not the same as making it optional. It would do the opposite of what you are asking for (which is to make your edits more obvious by default). I have no way to do that, sorry

Rubbish

Tell the truth the forum regulars here are all in an "advanced" group (that you get promotion to when you have made enough posts). I could change that "can edit silently" to NO for the normal "Members" so all their edits would be visible, but I really like it being allowed for forum regulars who I can see tweak/correct old posts appropriately and silently. I am loathe to change it for normal members and like the "can edit silently" for advanced members
