@Greg EThanks, but I wasn't looking for a workaround (I know the workarounds). I'd still like to see it in the Export dialog as it used to be in PagePlus. @Hilltop@rah1861 We cannot possibly know whether they have any intention of ever including this, and I prefer not to make assumptions either way.

I did - before you joined. For those of us who remember the halcyon days of the old Serif Forums, this really is a poor relation. There's always been an unpleasant undertow. I hope it improves for those of you who frequent it nowadays. As for me, I'm off. Good luck!

This is why I left and didn't post for a long time. I have only returned because of the V2 release, but am now about to remove my bookmark to the forum (again). It seems to be full of trolls these days, and some particularly nasty ones.

I think you just answered your own question. I made it clear that I was making a general statement: this sort of price reduction (and the company going quiet, for that matter) ahead of a new version launch is common across industries. It is not peculiar to Serif. FACT. That is all I have to say.
-
It's pretty common across all industries for something to be sold at an extremely tempting lower price just before a new version is released: it's something I tend to look out for as an indicator that something new is on the way. Not making a judgement on the practice, but just saying that it is quite a common practice.

No, but if you work on COPIES of your existing V1 files, then you will always have a back-up.

DAM - Digital Asset Manager
Ali replied to hobbytobiz's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
I have invested in other software because there is no DAM with Affinity Photo. I use ACDSee Ultimate 2023, which has everything I need for DAM, development and processing under one 'roof'.- 59 replies

Old users = new users?
Ali replied to Florin Iaru's topic in Customer Service, Accounts and Purchasing
That would be because Serif is running a business, not a charity. The reason for this has been addressed by Serif staff in other threads on this issue, but essentially they have no way of knowing who bought the product and when unless it was bought from Serif direct. There's the lesson: if you stick with them, buy directly from Serif. -
transferring presets

When you run up V2 for the first time, it should ask if you want to transfer V1 customisations across - does that not work for presets? -
V2 Upgrades for Recent V1 purchases?

I had no way of knowing this. Patrick's explanation shows why I could not have known this. -
V2 Upgrades for Recent V1 purchases?
Ali replied to Abhijit Singh's topic in Customer Service, Accounts and Purchasing
No, there isn't. There are many threads about this today, and Patrick Connor from Serif has expleined the pricing rationale in a couple of them. Do a search for his posts today and you will be able to read this for yourself. -
V2 Upgrades for Recent V1 purchases?
Ali replied to Abhijit Singh's topic in Customer Service, Accounts and Purchasing
When you bought version 1, you also got ALL of the updates that had been released for that version that anybody who paid for it got. You do not need to rebuy anything, but if you WANT to upgrade, you will need to buy version 2. However, you don't have to: version 1 isn't suddenly going to stop working. -
Thanks, @walt.farrell for the reply. I thought my post had got lost in the sea of wailing, whinging and whining about what is an incredible V2 launch offer - some people don't know they are born! No, that is not what I wanted. I don't know if you ever used PagePlus, but back then there was a tick box in PDF export that allowed you to export with the pages imposed (i.e. in printer's pairs). This would create a PDF export with a four-page booklet laid out with pages 4 and 1 togather, and pages 2 and 3 together. These are printer's pairs. This was not possible in Publisher V1 and does not seem to have been added to V2, more's the pity. So I'll have to stick with PagePlus a while longer for my multi-page documents, as I prefer to be able to export them in that way. Thanks again.

Realistic, honest, whatever. As I said, it's up to you. -

Nothing in life can be guaranteed except that you will die one day. Perhaps you need to stand back, take a breath and put all of this into some sort of perspective. Life is too short. It doesn't matter how much you complain or how often: the die is cast. Either you upgrade to V2 or stick with V1 and hope it lasts a few years longer. Or jump ship. It's up to you. -
Existing V1 users to V2 license
Ali replied to Costela's topic in Customer Service, Accounts and Purchasing
When would a software house (other than one that went bust) not have a Version 2? If there's a Version 1, then of course there will eventually be a Version 2. If there's only ever going to be one version, then no version number would be necessary. Version 2 has been talked about on the forums ever since Version 1 was released, and pretty soon people will start asking about Version 3. A modicum of common sense needs to be employed here. -

I understood perfectly. He bought Version 1, not Version 2. Version 1 has now come to the end of its development cycle. If he wants updates, then he'll need to buy the new version. My point was that there has to be a cut-off point: if you purchase software a long time after release, than you are gambling with that cut-off point. It's not rocket science: it's basic logic. -

I am still using the last versions of the Serif Plus range (in particular, WebPlus X8 2016 and PagePlus X9 2015) on a completely up-to-date Windows 11 system. I don't think it unreasonable to assume that the V1 Affinity range might have a similar longevity. -
