Staff Andy Somerfield Posted August 28, 2015 Staff Share Posted August 28, 2015 Purpose: Features / Improvements / Fixes Status: Beta Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo Mac App Store: Not Submitted Download: Here To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it. Please Note: This beta includes many changes which have never been beta-tested before. Being realistic, it is quite likely that you may encounter an occasional bug. We will do our utmost to fix anything that emerges as quickly as possible, but we just wanted you to understand that for production work we would recommend using the Mac App Store version until this beta has been validated for a few weeks. There are no translations included with this beta version, sorry - they will return next time... There are far too many under-the-hood changes this time to list them all, but the highlights for this beta are: - New "Haze Removal" filter. - User-definable keyboard shortcuts (first phase - more to come...) - New PDF export engine with ability to output PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-4 - Added Character and Paragraph panels - rather than these options being stuck in large modeless dialogs - Boolean geometry operations fixed - Many import and export improvements to PSD, PDF, EPS, SVG, etc. - Attempt to import .AI legacy files - New, searchable preferences panel with support for user-definable nudge distances ...and of course, the two changes I'm sure everyone will be most happy of all with: The beta now has its own icon and also has a sensible numbering scheme! :) There are many, many more improvements and fixes in this build - and probably a few new bugs :D See if you can find them ;) Mr. Doodlezz, MattP, JasperD and 10 others

Flaz
thanks for the update, I am experiencing problems after opening an image with this beta: panel adjustment 'freeze' and options in it disappears, also interface breaks down, I tried to restart with ctrl key reset all but is the same :(

Valentín Benavente
Cannot open the app, as AP beta asks for a purchased copy in order to be launched (I already have purchased it, of course). I've downloaded the beta twice, with no result. Any ideas? Thanks; Val Celestine

Valentín Benavente
Of course, that's the way I did it. In fact, I've downloaded both AD and AP betas from Andy's posts, but only AP refuses to be opened.
Staff Andy Somerfield Posted August 30, 2015 Author Staff Share Posted August 30, 2015 Valentin, Please make sure the purchased Affinity Photo is in the usual /Applications folder and not somewhere else :) Hope this helps, Andy.
Valentín Benavente
Yes, Photo is side-by-side with Designer in the /Applications folder. Val
Valentín Benavente
An update on this: seems to be related to the App Store issue: I've noticed that although the AP version I have in my computer is up to date, the App Store offers to install it as if it wasn't installed. I will re-install it and see what happens. Thanks! Val

Paekke
Feather doesn't update if.. You make a selection, apply feather, then hit delete. Then undo, change feather amount and hit delete again, feather remains the same. I have to redraw my selection, for the correct feather to apply. LilleG
First reaction is that the Beta label shows up well on Designer, not so much on Photo. Not a biggie since I never relied on the icons anyway but it just doesn't look as cool as the Designer Beta.
LilleG
I can see the Shortcuts panel but can't do anything with it. Is it there just to show us what it will be like when implemented? Or am I just totally missing how to add anything to it? I'm really impatient for a way to shortcut all the panels. Would love to be able to turn them all off and just click one or more in as needed. A_B_C
Hey Lille, to delete a shortcut just click on the little cross sign … to assign new shortcuts just click into an empty assignment field and press down the modifier + key combination you want to use for the respective command … does that work? As far as I can see, there is currently no way to add new commands to the list … but have a look at the different lists. Some of the commands you would invoke by going to View > Studio > …, are not found on the “View” list, but on other lists. The View > Studio > Character command is filed under “Text” (“Show Character”), for example. This is kind of confusing, and I hope this will be amended. To hide all panels you can use the Tab key (as you will surely know). Cheers, Alex :) Shortcuts.mov
LilleG
Alex, I'm not seeing anything in the Shortcuts panel. Where the shortcuts are listed in your movie, there is nothing! No matter what I click on nothing appears in that list. What am I not doing to get them to appear? And yeah, I know that you can make them all go away with the Tab. But making one come back means a trip to View>Studio>and scroll to click on the one you want back. Time-consuming and too cumbersome to bother with so I just leave them all onscreen. LilleG
Actually, the shortcuts window is truncated and the Close tab is not at the bottom but up inside the list area. If I open the Effects panel then place the shortcut window with the top of it on the Layers tab, the bottom of it is even with the bottom of Gradient Overlay. I think Mountain Lion has struck again. This is the second download and install I've done. The first time, I got a normal opening once and 3 or 4 opening where nothing showed in any panel...not colors, not layers, not effects, nothing. This time so far, things seem normal other than not being able to see the shortcuts.
A_B_C
Oh, I am really sorry to hear that … might be a Mountain Lion issue indeed. I recently changed my system from Lion to Yosemite, and I had no cause to regret my decision so far. Fingers crossed … MattP
JasperD
I´ve said my enthusiast feelings seeing the new Designer beta already, but I´ll add some here: truly awesome reactive support and developments, so short after the AppStore update to 1.3.5! Thank you much. MattP
Staff Andrew Tang Posted September 2, 2015 Staff Share Posted September 2, 2015 10.8.5, the same also starting new documents :( We've made some more Mountain Lion fixes in the next beta, so hopefully your issue should be fixed. Should be fixed for you in the next beta! :) Oh, I am really sorry to hear that … might be a Mountain Lion issue indeed. I recently changed my system from Lion to Yosemite, and I had no cause to regret my decision so far. Fingers crossed … No, we lost one of our great Lion testers! :) Seriously, I'm glad you made the upgrade though - Yosemite is great.
