  1. I made 2 shapes and snapped them together, because I wanted to group them into one item. But as you can see in the attachment, there's a thin white (or I guess transparent) line in between. (both shapes have a fill color and the line set to transparent) Is there something I'm not doing? How can I make the line disappear? In the photo attached, the two shapes are SNAPPED together... I'd like to not have to overlap because this is something I'll be doing often (snapping+grouping) & it won't always be acceptable to just go over the edge of one shape with another. Thanks.
  2. I have written a poem which reflects on the invasion which took place in 1978 all around the world. It is written from a UK perspective on the phenomenon called SPACE INVADERS. The title graphic was created in Affinity Designer, the text edited in LibreOffice, the layout done in Affinity Publisher and the graphic editing done in Affinity Photo. The YouTube link takes you to an audio version of the poem with backing music created in OpenMPT and speech created using Microsoft Sean TTS and mixed in Audacity. The frame effect was done in Fotosketcher. I hope you enjoy this retrospective on this seminal arcade game.
  3. Hi, Publisher crashes every time I hit the spacebar when in a text window. Thanks, Matt
  4. Question: In Affinity Photo, is it possible to purge the cache / memory, similar to Adobe Photoshop's Purge Cache function? Issue/situation: I mostly work with focus stacked product images from the Hasselblad 100 camera which means the files often bounce around 1.5GB ( in full resolution and focus stacked ), and it would be a great help if I can purge the cache as I've notice Affinity Photo hogs up a lot of HDD space ( assuming for caches etc ) and on occasion I'm getting error messages that I am running low on space. I try and keep the open documents to a minimum but when doing client review and editing I need to flip between 2 - 10 different documents which is an issue. It has to be noted I do not have a large SSD but it's sufficient for everything else except when Affinity Photo churns through space for caches. Tried: I've searched the forum but not conclusive threads on the matter. Operating system: OSX Catalina 10.15.3 Affinity Photo: Version 1.8.3 Any help or input on this matter is much appreciated, as I'm considering moving from other editors to Affinity Photo. Thank you in advance. PS: if this post is in the wrong forum, then please let me know, and I will submit it in another.
  5. Hi, How to add space between words without adding space between letters in a whole paragraph ? Everytime I add space it also modifies the letters, I just want to add word spacing. Thank you letter spacing.mp4
  6. Hi all, Here the result of a long night chasing the last milky way for this year. It is a stack of 42 shots edited in Affinity photo with develop persona, plus other 2 for the foreground and the person (that's me!) shooting light to the universe. Sky has been stacked in sequator software, than the compositing has been done in AP, with all the fine tune required. 2 little problem found: - developing raw one by one it takes a long time; a method to apply raw settings to the entire group would be very usefull - TIFF exported from AP have something wrong. I faced several errors with them and I don't know why. It seems something well known… (using JPG everything went smooth, but I lost the 16 bit and you know, jpg… bah…) However, here the final result. Hope you like it. Have a great week end, see ya! G:
  7. The following are edited from RAW files from the Nikon D5300.
  8. It would be great, when Affinity Photo would work with 3d connection space mouse. At least zooming and changing the of a size of a pen. I'd like to use it with my old wacom tablet. Pen in one hand and simple zooming and navigating with 3d mouse would be perfect. Thank you!
  9. Hi everyone, I'm creating this topic because of an issue I have with Affinity Designer. Let me show you an example on the last project I had to work on. I have two circles who are curves, and I want the part of the smaller circle who is outside the bigger to disappear. . Here's how I tried to do that : 1/ I duplicate them (because I'll need them again later), hide the first ones and and divide the new ones with a boolean operation. 2/ I delete the part that I don't need. 3/ And finally, I combine them with the "Add" boolean oparation. And, there is my problem. I still have a small space between them, we can see it a little on the last screenshot, but let me show it to you with a zoom. How can I avoid this ? The spaces are here, they are real and can be seen at almost every level of zoom, even more if I apply a gradient on it (bad luck, this logo is with a gradient lol). A last screenshot that will maybe help you help me : As you can see, the two "levers" that allow me to change the curve are not exactly at the same position, I think that my problem will be solved if they were, but why aren't they ? Thanks a lot to those who will at last try to help me, that's a problem who completely prevents me to work on logo projects with Affinity Designer. Chris
  10. Hey everyone. This is a piece I finished recently in Affinity Designer. I wanted to create the look and feel of 70s retro scifi illustrations and at the same time I wanted to stay 100% vector. No traces, no bitmaps, no pixel layers. Critique, opinions and questions welcome :D
  11. Exercise with Xenon Ok so I wanted a forest design for my latest eco–vid. Started playing around and came up with a surprising glimpse of creativity. Process: Open Affinity photo. Download a nice forest photo from the internet. Copy, paste and flip horizontal, drag and fix to form a symmetrical composite. I purchased the Xenon brush pack from Affinity store and used them to create effects. I finished with a galactic brush to add the vibrant green mist. This started out as a simple play with brush and finished with an interesting picture. Not complex just try and see. It’s not rocket science, just good old fashioned work and play.
  12. Hello, Happens in both Publisher 1.7.2.471, and Publisher BETA 1.7.3.475. Windows 10. Dell 7530 Precision laptop. Have come across a bug in my workflow when aligning and grouping the aligned items. I have attached 5 images to show the steps and results. Here is a step by step to reproduce: New document. Place 3 objects on the canvas. Select all three items Select the Alignment button at top middle of screen (above ruler) In the Align Horizontally section, select Selection Bounds Select Space Horizontally In the Align Vertically section, select Selection Bounds Select Align Middle Don't hit the OK button yet. Items are now aligned and spaced as expected. On the keyboard, group those items using Control-G Items jump back to original layout, unaligned and unspaced. Now hit the OK button. The unaligned and unspaced items now jump down the page and are Aligned Middle to the spread. It is step 10, Grouping the items before hitting the OK button to close the Alignment panel. Let me know if you need further explanation. Lynn
  13. This is just a recent vector drawing I did. Just started using the app and I needed to get the feel of different tools! Planet Phoenix.afdesign
  14. What is the preferred method for reserving page space for video and other media? As Publisher has no facility for inserting various forms of media content such as Vimeo, YouTube, or media players, for modern online document publication, so; therefore space needs to be reserved and replaceable after rendering to PDF. Should a picture frame rectangle or just a rectangle (or another shape) be used for PDF editing?
  15. I've actually been drawing for this Inktober mainly in Blender 2.8 with grease pencil. However the last three days I needed a deeper, more painterly and textured look - perfect for the painting tools in Photo. Ironically, it was the special prompt list from Adobe, which made me switch back to Affinilty for those days
  16. Hi guys, thank you for reading this. I would ask you to consider a very smart and intuitive way to navigate the canvas. Illustrator (and also Photoshop with some minor difference) uses the modifier keys Ctrl, Alt, Shift and Space in combination to activate or deactivate certain tools. This solution is very useful and super fast because you do not need to move your fingers over the keyboards and you do not need to hit a key twice to activate/deactivate a tool, but with just 4 keys you can access to all the navigation tools, like pan, zoom, select, and so on. You probably already know what I'm referring about, but I'll add a list of the most common combos (please note that being a combo means also to hold them together while using the tool): Ctrl = Object Selection (or, if Object Selection is active, it triggers Element Selection) Ctrl + Space = Zoom In Ctrl + Space + Alt = Zoom Out Alt = Drag Copy (also after clicking for drag, atm it works just before) If you have to deal with conflicts among other shortcuts, like combos already used for other functions, please contact me and I'll be happy to deal with it. Finding the same interface as the most popular software would have many advantages: - reduce frustration and improve experience using the software - reduce adoption time - triggers interoperability between software (so you can use the same habits while switching from one sw to another...yes, someone still does) - uses a model already spread and tested, based on years of experience I totally understand that this is another software and it's normal to not expect to find the same stuff of the competitors, but this is not the kind of thing that makes AD positively different from its competitors (imho of course); making the transition from one software to another as smooth as possible for as many users as possible I think is more valuable. I and a bunch of other folks would really love to find these combos in the next updates. Thank you for your attention. p.s. dear reader of this topic, please, add here other combos that you would like to have in the future.
  17. Here's a space related infographic I've been working on. It was all built in Designer.

  21. Created entirely with Affinity Photo and my fractal artwork.
  22. Decided to create a spacescape in Photo. It's my first one using Affinity Photo and only Affinity. Very interesting and fun. Ran into several bugs, especially related to slider usage and maximum numbers and reported these in the bugs forum. Enjoy!

  24. Here are a few of the illustration that I created for a site I just finished working on. All the final images were SVG files but many of them started with a photo reference or with original art created in Photo. There are a few that were all done in Designer as well. For some of the images (such as the quasar and the fusion image) I also used Flame Painter which is a fractal paint application and would then bring those elements into Photo to composite and adjust them to get the final art. I can go into more of the process if anyone is interested. Cheers! Jeff The Universe from A to Z
