  1. I would say pretty much for ~75%. It is when 32bpc support is required that Affinity Photo becomes too limited, since it does not support a bit depth beyond 16 bit per channel. And there are issues with certain plugins which are Photoshop-only, or will not run as a plugin in Photo.
  2. Jonas posted - Hi Tom, working only used by me in the NIK / Google filters. All other not function. Either Serif manages with some money to publish the plug functions that all filters run under Affinity Photo or they must create their own filters to the topics. Another way I do not see at the moment. I still use the OnOne Perfect Photo Suite and Alien Skin Exposure 7, which do not even work. Only Imagenomic Noiseware Portraiture and function. Let's see if something happens with the plug-ins ??? After that I believe our German friends started there own dialog. BTW, my interest lies in the fact that I spent $150US for these filters not too long ago and thought they were fun. That was when I also used Nikon CNX2. Then Google bought NIK and Nikon dropped CNX2. I tried Lightroom but was not happy and, being a 70 year old amateur who likes to shoot and play with the results, photoshop was too much and that does not even touch my dislike of the Adobe subscription change. Then Affinity just dropped into my lap and while I remain a newbie with it, it is easy for me to understand and grasp. The future looks good and I hope they grow and gain enough market penetration that hey will look at enabling plugins like NIK. My two cents and now I will continue my studies with Affinity. Thanks to all.
  3. This did not show up my Aperture library at all. Then I added it via preferences/ photoshop plugins browse through to the Aperture library and it was there.
  4. Try this. It worked for me with Aperture. Go to Affinity Photo/ PREFERENCES/photoshop plugins Then browse to folder where your Photo's are. Of course, if you are archived on the cloud it won't work. But my Aperture folder is on a huge external drive and I can now browse it through the Media Browser.
  5. Affinity Photo has been out on general release now for some weeks. It is a fantastic effort, and remarkably bug-free. However, there ARE still some things to be worked out, not least of which is compatibility with Photoshop plugins such as Topaz and others. This needs to be seemless and fully operational, and fully automatic. I know you guys said you'd be working with the plugin makers once you had a full release version of the Photo software out there. So I'm just wondering if this is being worked on, and when can we expect to see the first update - most initial releases are followed by bug-fixes and minor updates fairly quickly after that first release. This just seems to be taking a while.... No pressure - just asking :)
  6. It is less than ideal, very much so, being on a unix base it shouldn't be too hard to pipe data from one program to another and the problem is no obvious way to do it within affinity photo. lightroom's external editor function is quite powerful. Basically the user sets up the format of the call. The colour space and the file format generally psd or tiff. so it would be lightroom decides to run gimp with the current image as a command line argument. kind of like $>gimp myphoto.psd when gimp terminates a return code is generated and then lightroom can open myphoto.psd with the changes made in gimp. Ideally keeping the before and after in the history. There may be no change to the offered file maybe the user resized the image in gimp and saved it out to email it. There may be additional layers in the psd (which may be hard to replicate) but essentially all lightroom needs to know is I gave gimp myphoto.psd now it has finished with it i can load the new version back in and carry on working with it. obviously I can hit save in affinity photo and select the file type then open the file i just saved in finder with another program do something with it save it from that program and reopen in affinity photo. Its the same difference apart from i'm working for the computer instead of the computer working for me! :) Obviously it would be nice if plugin authors would be co operative with affinity photo, hopefully as infinity photo's user base grows they will see an opportunity to target affinity photo as well as adobe photoshop and lightroom. An editin module is not ideal but it should be relatively easy to do, even if most popular plugins worked it'd still be handy.
  7. Daisy - why are you downloading your photos into iPhoto at all? Why not simply import them directly into Aperture? You can either connect the camera or slip the SD card into the card reader on the Mac, open Aperture, and tell it to import directly from the card. To be safe, I actually copy the card into a new folder on the dektop first, remove the card, then open Aperture and import from the new folder. That just avoids the risk of automatically deleting the files once imported, as I want to keep them. Yes, I know you can say not to delete them, but just in case... (call me paranoid). Then in Aperture, you can set Affinity as your external editing app, so that when you right-click on a photo in Aperture, and select "Edit with Affinity", the photo should open in Affinity. I can't guarantee that the two-way trip is flawless yet - I'm gradually using Affinity more and more, bit by bit, but I haven't cut the cord to Photoshop yet - I'm going to wait until Affinity is just a tiny bit more mature, and has all the problems sorted out with plugins, etc (especially Topaz) before I finally ditch PS. So I don't have Affinity yet set as my external editor in Aperture - but I will as soon as I'm happy that Affinity is out of its post-natal phase :) So, until Affinity introduces photo management facilities, like Aperture has (or Lightroom), it will remain as a separate editor for doing stuff (eg layers) that Aperture doesn't do.
  8. mike i understand your frustration but i think tonyB is absolut right, without some support from the pluggin developers side the problem is not really solvable. a workaround is only a half backed solution because i think AP will get more customers in the near future which don't have photoshop on their machine so to be able to install the plugins the installer needs to know the host application and where to place the files ! so lets start a change.org petition or flood the plugin companies support with requests !
  9. I have never tried impressions. Perhaps it is worth looking at, especially if it actually works using AP. As for some of the plugins working and some not, it does seem strange to me. I have never written any plugin interfaces so I am at a disadvantage here but Adobe does define the interface and make the information available in their SDK so it puzzles me as to why this is such a big deal. I do not mean to suggest it is easy, but it is doable since there are other pixel editors besides Photoshop and Elements that have this working properly. If photoLine can do it so can Serif and I assume it would be a simple process for them to hire a temporary contractor who was familiar with implementing plugin interfaces. I do not want to be telling the developers what to do. They have done a tremendous job with AP but it would be a help if they would take a moment and try to keep us up to speed on what, if anything, is going on.
  10. Great launch indeed! :) Fantastic new product; I´m mighty impressed with it already (except for its speed with opening my Fujifilm X-Trans raw files). I am using Photoshop CS6, Photo Suite 9.5 (stand alone and plugins) and NIK components with all my raw files. It feels so good to have Affinity Photo on the HD already, instead of the Adobe monster. Especially liked one of the last comments in the presentation: ´No Subscription´. :P I have watched the tutorials in the list in the order given since last week. However, before starting section ´7. Develop´, I couldn´t resist and got Affinity Designer as well from the AppStore, yesterday evening. It will complement my already existing toolset quite nicely. Congrats with your 2015 Apple Design Award! Now back on topic: wouldn´t it be nice to have a list ordered / organised like published here, for that other product? Pinned here just like this one. I launched a search, could not find it alas. It´s so mighty convenient compared to just picking one from the main site!
  11. At the point of From the PhotoShop Plugins tab, under the Plugin support folders box, click Add Folder. Press G to bring up the Go to the folder input box. It does not work for me as pressing G does not do anything. The funny thing is that I have done this before but cannot remember how to enter the /.
  12. Before complaing about response time, I think you need to take into account that: 1. Affinity/Serif are probably in a completely different timezone than you are, 2. They are dealing with a HUGE amount of support calls and messages during the launch period of Affinity Photo. I've only been on here for a week or so, but I have been VERY impressed at not only the speed with which somebody from Affinity or one of the Mods will respond, but also the fact that several of those who DO respond are the actual developer team. So you're talking directly to the programmers/coders. For a $50 piece of software, that is as sophisticated and powerful as Affinity Photo is, and considering that this is the initial release, I am amazed at what the app will do. Sure, there are some teething bugs to get sorted out - there always are. Things like tweaking the UI such as your concerns, or things like getting some of the Photoshop plugins to work in Affinity Photo - still to be fixed. But given that the programmers are trying to divide their time between actually coding the tweaks, responding on here, and getting some sleep, I think you're being unnecessarily harsh and too quick to jump to criticism. I'd put money on you getting a response from Affinity within the next few hours. The initial post on this thread was still only 5 hoours ago - and you're accusing them of not responding? Holy mackerel - this isn't a Skype call or a real-time chat...!
  13. Hi Bram de Mooij, Viveza is still not working correctly. We are working to improve Photoshop plugins compatibility. Please bear with us while we get there.
  14. Is there a tutorial on how to install photoshop plugins? I got a freebie AutoFX bundle that I installed but I did have to tinker with where and how I did it, but I did. Maybe people don't know how to do it correctly?
  15. I've only installed LR5 and the NIK Collection and I can select 'Edit in..' in LR to choose one of the NIK plugins. No Photoshop installed - perhaps this is why I can't find any plugin folder? Cheers, Tom
  16. Photoshop plugins are supported but it's an area of the app our devs are still improving. You can find more information here. Which quixel plugin are you trying to use? Their website states that their suite isn't yet compatible with OS X.
  17. Thanks for the help, but that didn't work for me either. I've put those freaking plugins in every place I can imagine and nothing shows up. Maybe it's something in Mountain Lion. For now, I give up. I can always run an image back through Photoshop (where they do work) if I really want to use a plugin.
  18. Hi mprefit, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) We are working to improve Photoshop plugins compatibility in Affinity Photo. You can expect some solid improvements on this area soon.
  19. Thanks for the update. I've found that, like MikeFromMesa stated, some plugins work and some don't. I am very happy with the progression of this software. It will be so great to not need Photoshop any longer!
  20. Been dabbling in the Affinity Photo Beta. I’ve been somewhat stymied by the philosophy of the workflow of personas. I’m used to Lightroom (LR), its plugins, and Photoshop. Looking forward to transferring to Affinity. However, how have some Beta users created workflows straight from RAW? Or do you work from LR processing and create Tifs to be processed in Affinity Photo Beta? Here’s where I can best be elucidated: The Affinity and Develop Personas seem to offer similar processes; but they are different—what’s the philosophy behind both? Is there some documentation (with more detail than the videos) that create a crude map of what some workflows can accomplish? Thanks in advance, Wei Chong
  21. jkehoe, While I do not use APB as my sole processing software, if I did my workflow would probably be something like this: 1) Open the APB Media Browser, browse to the desired folder and select an image to process, 2) Using the Media Browser, open the image in APB. If the image is raw, develop in the Develop Persona, move to the Photo Persona and edit further. If the image is not raw, develop in the Photo Persona only, 3) Call and use plugins as needed, 4) Export each image, when processed, to the format and location I wished to use. This is the exact analog of how I used to do processing using Photoshop and Bridge. Unlike Bill, who has an interest in cataloging and indexing his images (using a DAM of some sort) I have no need or interest in using one, so my processed images get copied to my wife's laptop for viewing, my raw images get copied to my dual backups and I am finished with my processing of that batch. Is the difficulty you are having related to deciding on a workflow? Or is it with using the functionality in APB itself? Or both? Or neither? If it is related to using APB to do your editing, then perhaps there is something that we can help you, provided we know where the issue (issues) is (are). It has been my experience that the people on this forum are extraordinarily interested in helping those new to the tool and will try very hard to help, and to help the Serif people get this product to release.
  22. I purchased AD not too long ago and I was also looking at Sketch. I read too many issues with bugs and after looking at many YouTube videos, I settled with AD — I didn't realize there was a free trial :) Price Sure AD could be priced a little higher, but I wouldn't pay US$100 for it. I also will say that this was the major factor behind my purchase, so maybe it is adequately priced. I think $69 would be their optimal pricing, though; and $29 for upgrades, $5 for certain plugins (if any exist). I agree with ChrisP, I think Sketch is probably a US$29.99 app. Certainly not $100. Quality/Experience I can't talk about much, but I appreciate the Vector / Pixel options in AD. I will say I've used Photoshop/Illustrator and GIMP/Inkscape in the past and I think AD fits midway between the paid/free. Though, I'm not by any means a power user or artist, so I didn't use all the features Adobe offered and the free softwares are not necessarily buggy, but don't feel as smooth. Other You might be better asking this question some place else. People that participate in this forum will most likely be AD-biased — we all probably have probably purchased it, or had a hand in its development.
  23. Alien Skin Eye Candy was the first plugin I tried, as it is a personal favorite. I tracked down the path for the support files, and I've also tried using "/" but in neither case does the plugin work. It appears grayed out, but it could be a part of their software's design to prevent piracy (since it's not being hosted in Photoshop?)... Love the application and it's got many features lacking in other powerful (yet budget-conscious) applications like Pixelmator. I look forward to a fix for these more powerful plugins. Thanks!
  24. Hello everyone. While I was delighted with (& purchased) Designer, I'm close to ecstatic about Photo. As a fine-art photographer (www.valleau.gallery) whose work goes to collectors and museums, I spend a lot of time hunched over Photoshop.... and I have a small fortune invested in plugins for it. Without Photo's ability to import and use those, it would have been a non-starter for me. So far I'm completely impressed by what the Affinity team has done, considering the level of competition. If I find I can switch out of my Adobe "subscription" and into Affinity Photo's arms, I'll do so. In fact, I'm slightly frustrated that I can't provide you with payment of some kind right now, just to underscore my support for you. I'm delighted to be here. :)
  25. So I just added the Alien Skin Eye Candy plugin to Affinity Photo in the Photoshop Plug-ins tab... restarted Affinity Photo... opened a file... selected a layer... went up to the "Filters" menu... selected Plugins>Alien Skin>Eye Candy 7... and nothing happens. Nothing launches. Am I doing something wrong?
