  1. Hi @youngmedia, Sorry the delay getting back to you. I'm nor experiencing any issues here. Can you post a screenshot of the Photoshop Plugins section in Affinity Photo Preferences, so I can see the plugins config please? Can you also post a screenshot of the Apple > About This Mac panel - remember to hide the serial number in the screenshot. What Affinity version are you using? 1, 2 or 2 Beta? Thanks.
  2. No, because Affinity Photo supports only one type of Photoshop plugin, the kind that makes changes to pixel layers. It does not support kinds of plugins that handle, for example, opening or saving files.
  3. What you do may depend on how you installed the plugins for V1. One aspect: the default plugin installation folders are different between Photo V1 and Photo 2. If you check Preferences > Photoshop Plugins in both V1 and V2 you will see what the default folder for each is. If you have installied your plugins directly into the default V1 folder, then I would suggest you copy your plugins from that folder to the one used by V2. On the other hand, if you configured an additional plugin folder in V1, just configure that folder in V2, too, just as you had it setup for V1.
  4. I have Nik 4 working well on V1. I used the Edit > Preerences > Photoshop Plugins to tell V2 where my Nik plugins were. On rebooting, only HDR pro, the two Sharpeners, Siver Efex and Viveza appeared in the Filters > Plugins > Nik Collection menu. No sign of Analog Efex or Color Efex (not even greyed). The plugins that appear do seem to work OK. John
  5. Hello Affinity team, I am looking for some technical developer support for 3rd party plugins. Boris FX develops popular effects plugins for many video editing hosts and recently released "Optics" for Photoshop/Lightroom. We have had multiple requests from Affinity users who would like to launch Optics from Affinity Photo. Currently, we set Affinity to see Optics, but when try to launch Optics from the standard Affinity plugin menu, we get an error: "ChannelPorts not available". And then Affinity freezes. This request is mentioned in the Affinity forums here. The request is that Affinity update its support for Photoshop plugins to support newer API.
  6. I'm using a trial version of Photo 2 before deciding to replace Photoshop on my iMac, and I'm concerned by the fact that it's periodically crashing my computer without any warning or consistency. (FWIW, I have the same problem with Photoshop, which seems to indicate that it might be related to my computer or OS rather than the application.) Here are the specs for my computer: 2020 27" Retina 5K iMac running iOS 13.3.1 (latest version of Ventura); 3.6 GHz 10 Core Intel Core i9 processor; 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 RAM; AMD Radeon Pro 5500XT w/8 GB. Photo settings: Hardware acceleration checked; use only integrated GPU unchecked; undo limit: 1025; RAM usage limit: 65GB; no Photoshop plugins; Retina rendering: automatic I don't have a crash report to share but if you need it, I'll update this topic the next time it happens. Any insights as to why this might be happening will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  7. I have the latest registered versions of Publisher, Photo and Designer installed. I have Photoshop Plugins set up and working in Photo, however when I switch to Photo Persona in Publisher, the Photoshop Plugins are not available. How do I make my Photoshop Plugins available when using Photo Persona from inside Publisher or is it a bug?
  8. Please I need help, I can't get nik plugins 4 working with affinity photo 1.10. on a brand new macbook pro with up-to-date big sur, i installed affinity photo 1.10 from the app store and donwnloaded nik plugins 4. I followed the instructions from the tutorial you linked (thank you!). In detail: 1) created a Nik Collection folder in Applications 2) launched the installer 3) accepted the default /Applications/Nik Collection folder 4) clicked on + and selected the /Applications/Nik Collection folder as host 5) got the fake photoshop enrtry in the applications list and continued 6) at the end of the installation, I had the standalone programs and a DxO folder in the /Applications/Nik Collection folder; the /applications/Nik Collection/DxO folder contains the plugins 7) launched one of the standalone programs and registered my license 8 )opened affinity photo, then preferences => photoshop plugins 9) in the plugins folders I selected the DxO subfolder 10) then selected authorise globally, without selecting any folder: Now I have "/" in the support folders list -- like with previous versions of affinity and nik, but differently from the screenshot in the tutorial, where the DxO subfolder is listed two times (weird) 11) checked "allow unknown plugins" 12) closed the preferences panel and restarted Affinity Photo When I load a jpg, select the pixel layer (the only one I have) and go to "Filters=>Plugins=>Nik Collection=>any plugin" nothing happens. However, when I exit affinity, it asks me to save the image, as if it had been modified. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I also repeated the affinity configuration process selecting the Nik Collection as plugins folder (instead of DxO), with no result I also tried manually selecting /Applications/Nik Collection/DxO as support folder, but this way color efex and analog efex are no more listed in the plugins menu (and the other plugins do not start as well) Any help will be deeply appreciated. Stefano
  9. Hi @ColinG, Apologies for the delayed response here as it appears as though this was originally posted in the beta section of the forums. Unfortunately Affinity Photo doesn't currently support all Photoshop plugins, my apologies. Specifically, Luminar Neo is logged with our developers to be supported in a future update if possible, I'll be sure to add your 'vote' to this development log now. I hope this clears things up!
  10. I didn't even know that there are problems with Photo and FilterForge (10). I just pointed the new Affinity V2 apps to the folder and everything worked out of the box. I have all my Photoshop compatible plugins (free and commercial ones) in a folder structure on a different drive (not system drive). Simply because I have several programs, which use these plugins. Works like a charm and I never had any issues with any of the apps which need to start those plugins. Maybe that's the culprit? Because Windows still restricts the access for some apps to some of the system folders here and there, inclusive user, programs and programs (x86)
  11. Is there any chnace in the future that Studio Link might include Photoshop Plugins in the Photo Persona?
  12. Hi! I know there's a thread regarding this topic from 2016, but I'm completely failing to get this to work on my Mac (M1, Monterey) I bought the Portrait Pro Studio Version, but since I don't have Photoshop on my Mac anymore it refuses to install the corresponding plug-ins. only the stand alone app gets installed, which is useless in my workflow. I opened the app and tried to manually install them, but that doesn't work either. I'm completely lost! Any idea what I'm doing wrong? thanks!
  13. I agree and although Affinity lacks a lot of the refined features that Photoshops programmers have developed over the years, I still find myself using Affinity Photo more than Photoshop CC. I still have a preference for Illustrator but that is to a degree because of the awesome Astute plugins and HotDoors Cadtools, But I'm growing more fond of Designer as the iterations come out and the devs are really moving it forward.
  14. Please show us your Photo Settings, Photoshop Plugins section. What happens when you try to use it?
  15. @firstdefence thanks for elaborating! I followed exactly that description in FAQ on the Anthropics website, with absolutely no luck. The Portrait Pro plugin doesn't get installed, since it couldn't find a Photoshop version on my Mac. When I take the Portrait Pro Studio App and reveal the content it does show plugins but not the actual plugin file. When I start the PPStudio app, I can go into preferences and plugin and it doesn't let me start a manual plugin installation, it just shows "show plugin folder" button instead... 🤪 there I find a plugin (Lego cube symbol) and when I put in the dedicated Affinity folder in (alt) library, Affinity Photo v2 does recognise it, but I can't get activated, no matter what I try when I allow "unknown" and global. I don't even get that far, it could crash 🙈
  16. You can use Photoshop documentation to create plugins for Photo. Affinity allows a limited subset of the overall PS functions; what you can use in .8bf plugin files when developing for Windows. Or you can look an OpenSource plugin like G'Mic that works on Windows, to get more information about how to do it. Or you could build an additional filter to install within G'Mic, using their documentation.
  17. Ok you probably need to point Affinity Photo to that folder, it should have a plugins folder inside or have the plugin within that folder, so, from Affinity Photo, under Preferences > Photoshop Plugins, under Plugin Search Folders you need to add a link to that folder.
  18. I have numerous Photoshop effects, plugins, brushes that I would like to extend to Affinity products. Is there a way to use them in the new Publisher, Photo, or Designer products?
  19. I believe the word 'Requires' should read 'Requires Global'. (There's something a bit buggy about the Settings interface: on my machine running Ventura, paths aren't shown completely unless you hover over them.) The following is from the Help for Using Plugins (which needs updating as it still refers to Settings as "Preferences"): To allow access to supporting plugin files: From the Photoshop Plugins tab, under the Plugin support folders box, click Authorise Global. The folder dialog will default to root ("Macintosh HD"). You can click Authorise here and access to support files will be applied recursively, or you can specify a particular directory that contains the support files. Press Close. Once I'd done that and restarted Photo v2, Color Efex Pro 4 and Analog Efex Pro 2 went green and are now available in my Filters-Plugins menu.
  20. Pro: Seamless with PhotoShop plugins, Filter Forge is so-so. Topaz works fine. Con: A minor gllitch, I hope. When I'm working with a tablet (Gaomon 1560) I've noticed that selecting a tool with the stylus doesn't happen. I have to use the mouse.
  21. I am new with Affinity Photo Mac and will use the photoshop plugins of CS6. But i cannot find the correct path to the plugins or see them. Not in the CS6 Folder or in the Library Folders. Is there any instruction? Thanks for some help! Josef
  22. After having searched in vain, I think this thread is relevant enough to get a bump. I recently wrote a freeware Photoshop plugin using Adobe's ancient and hard-to-use plugin SDK. If I had known how to write Affinity Photo plugins, I would probably have done so instead. Opening up for customer plugins could kickstart an entire community around writing new plugins - both free and commercial ones depending on what various developers decide to do. And this would in turn make Affinity Photo even more attractive. Now, I'm not the world's best C++ developer, so I would probably need to see the source code for an example plugin in order to pull that off. So I suggest putting an Affinity Photo add-on on github or similar site. If it does the following, I believe it would be enough to help devs like me getting started: 1) Adjusting saturation (which would show how to access several color channels at once). 2) Doing a crude blur (which would show how to reach neighbouring pixels). 3) Demonstrate how to make labels, sliders and how to preview the changes the plugin does.
  23. Hello, is it possible to use the Photoshop Plugins please and how ? Is there a default plugins that transform any photo into a sketch, a nice art draw with many parameters ? Thx !
  24. Interesting point(s), Paolo! I tend to agree, actually and it seems to support my notion that the Affinity apps should indeed put a strong(er) focus on "professional" features, which will help secure a smooth and hassle-free production process – like e.g. really foolproof colour management and (accordingly) error free PDF output. I have the impression that it is still way too easy to produce productionwise faulty PDFs using Publisher while in InDesign it used to be almost foolproof once you had set up your Creative Suite apps correctly once and for all in the initial setup (especially concerning colour spaces and profiles). Furthermore I tend to think that Adobe’s offering the possibility to entend/complement inbuilt features on quite a grand scale by helpful and powerful 3rd party plugins and scripts in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign has really created some serious creative atmosphere or ecosystem around the apps, which had made them all the more attractive to all creative users. In my opinion you cannot for example underestimate the positive effects which some 3rd party plugins (or plugins collections) have had for the attractivity of PhotoShop to creatives over the years: KPT (back in the day), Alien Skin, Mr. Retro and many others. Or – e.g. – those by Astute Graphics for Illustrator. Having used some of these to my benefit back in the day and having learned about many others which I might have tried some day I can't help but feeling more than a bit limited every now and then after having switched to Affinity a couple of years ago... Last but not least: of course Adobe will try to make students and amateurs sort of dependent on their software, which – as you say correctly – they will have often learned to use in school or other education and have been able then to subscribe to at drastically reduced educational discounts. Many of them will obviously be hesitant to learn yet another software after having learned to feel sort of at home in CC. it If you want to make someone addicted that's the way to go I'd say...
  25. Guys, after all, what are the Photoshop plugins that are 100% compatible with affinity ?? The 'Nik collection' is working, though it can not assign shortcut keys to it.
