  1. Welcome to the forum defean I have a Synology NAS at home too, so I will give this a try over the weekend to see how it works. However, i've stopped using the Synology DS apps on my phone because they were flakey and slow.
  2. @AT.HA, regarding your other topic specifically about the Synology DS918+ NAS, while checking a few things for this topic, I found this. I don't know how relevant it would be to you but it is probably worth considering.
  3. I'm so excited on the Synology forum someone recommended File Browser. I was trying to browse my Synology NAS and drop files directly onto a Focus stack. Just couldn't do it. Had to use a PC and go NAS to iCloud... wait.....iCloud to iPad..... wait...... iCloud to Affinity Photo iPad wait...... With FileBrowser I just browsed to the files location directly on the NAS and used IOS11 drag and drop straight into an Affinity Photo Focus stack. Boom done. I have also connected my Mac, PC, iCloud too. The App is just epic and will be even more useful when Affinity Designer Drops. https://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
  4. hi stokerg thanks for your feedback. Our workstations are connected to a NAS Synology via Wireless and/or Ethernet. Sometimes the connection is also made from outside via a VPN. Can I help you with further or more detailed information?
  5. I'm working on a iMac, OS High Sierra, my NAS is a Synology Discstation DS 213
  6. AP has an issue with my Synology DiskStation. Every time I launch AP I get a message saying "there was a problem connecting to the server DiskStation" Despite the DS being connected and running fine. I'm unable to run any automated tasks as I get into a cycle of this not connected issue. The DS runs fine with everything else except AP. Mac OSX 10.15.2 DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4 Thanks.
  7. Since upgrading to OSX 10.15.2 I have been unable to double click multiple images to open them at once, Affinity just locks up. Before updating to Catalina I could double click 100+ images and open them all very quickly. 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Synology NAS holding images.
  8. ISSUE FIXED Hi guys, I have solved this problem. It turns out the issue was nothing to do with Affinity, it was the new Synology DSM update. I have always connected via afp but this is now very slow, changing my connection to smb has made it super fast again.
  9. I'd pay for an Affinity DAM too! I think a lot of people would. Wish Apple would have sold them the rights to Aperture - would have solved a lot of issues! I don't use iCloud for photos either - bought a Synology server and have set up my own "personal" cloud which the rest of the family can use too. It works well and there's no monthly fee.
  10. I won't get involved in what a DAM is, all I want is a replacement for Google Picasa. Good features of Picasa: Face recognition Stores face recognition data in XMP in the jpg file (So can be read by DS photo for example - see below) Enables placing of a location. Not so good features No longer supported Requires a separate database, which has therefore to be backed up and causes problems when moving files to a new computer Not for use on a network. Cannot amend person details (possibly because of the link to uploaded Google photos) I haven't used Lightroom but have DS Photo on my Synology network storage. Good features: Picks up face data from XMP Free (with Synology drive!) Has location data Use on a network Mobile apps available Not so good Must be used through a browser for all features (I think) Not as many features as Picasa. I would therefore hope that the release for Affinity: Stores all data (metadata) in the file (even if a separate database is used for indexing) Can be used on a network Picks up data (including face recognition) from XMP data Has face recognition facility Good search facility Opportunity to amend and add to metadata Can be easily moved to a new computer, without loss of data Good luck with the new program. Although I'm using free programs at the moment, I'd be happy to pay for a good organizer. Incidentally, if you want to view metadata attached to a file, try Exif Pilot http://www.colorpilot.com/exif.html
  11. Sehr seltsam.
  12. Thanks, Jeff. Though as edit above, I left it for a while and it rebooted ok. I read that this gives time for the capacitors to fully discharge and so let voltages drop to fully zero. I have RAID on the desktop and backup to a Synology NAS system so I wouldn't lose much data (though the hassle of a dead system is counted in days, at least).
  13. Hi Chris - Sure - here's the information: 1. Windows 10 Home, version 1809, build 17763 2. I've attached two files with the output of the System Information tool, one for the overall system and one for the display adapter. It's an Asus M32CD, dual-core i3 @ 3.7ghz, 16gb RAM, with a GeForce GT710 display adapter. 3. The save location is to a Synology DS216j NAS system. BUT -- your question got me thinking, so I tried the steps in my video when saving to the local hard drive. In that case, the "Loading %" step is so fast there's no time (or need) to press Ctl-W! So if I had been saving locally all along, I don't think I'd have ever seen this happen. 4. I uploaded the file to Dropbox. Also, please note that this happens with any PEF, NEF (from a Nikon D3300) and DNG files that I've tried. (And one more thing - in the current production version this doesn't happen at all. There's no "Loading %" displayed at all after the file save progress bar is done.) System Info.xls Display Adapter Info.xls
  14. A colleague and I are working on a shared document that is stored on a shared Synology Cloud Drive. When my colleague makes changes to the document and saves it and I then open it the linked files are missing and I have to relink them all.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion which proved to be spot on The files on the cloud drive are the ‘master’ and each user has a local (slave) copy of the files with syncing between the master and each slave. This means the user name is included in the file name and as each user name is different the links are lost when user A amends a docment, then user B amends it and then user A opens the document. I’m going to see if there is some way of having ‘absolute’ rather than relative filenames within a Synology Cloud drive system as I am sure there will be many users who wish to share files in this way.
  16. Hi, I have noticed an error while saving files opened from SMB shares with Publisher Mac. It happens only when opening the file for the first time and trying to save it (save command or save as with the same name). When the file is reopened then it saves normally. Save as with different name also works fine. I have the the same issue with Af Designer and Photo apps since version 1.6. Had no issue with versions 1.5. Could you please investigate the error? I checked it on 2 different Macs and 2 different SMBs (WD and Synology). Thanks
  17. I am going to bump this one too but would like to open it up a bit more. I have a Synology NAS and use their Drive app and would like to export to it. I am trying to just go all iPad and not use a laptop anymore. Having the ability to have more options to save / export to from an iPad would complete my workflow.
  18. Don't conflate cloud storage and external drives. Cloud storage will still use local storage, but trickle upload the changes to the cloud. To my knowledge the major cloud storage providers should be ok with Affinity. There are the usual issues where people attempt to keep a document open on two or more devices that are saving to the same cloud stored file. We do the conflict resolution for iCloud, but I don't really know what people expect when using other services that don't do the conflict resolution.... External drives - it depends if you are talking about USB storage or network shares. Both have their issues, which we have resolved mostly. 1.7 will also have some improvements in that area. Most USB storage issues have been caused by people pulling out a device before it has finished writing. We have also identified serious failures with certain NAS devices (Synology being the main one) that had nothing to do with Affinity directly, but were triggered by how we handle files. Our main reason for advising people to use local storage is speed. It is fine to backup to an external device, but why would you chose to throttle performance by working directly on a USB device? I've been testing with my Mac Fusion drive and a Gigabit NAS, and the load/save time differences are HUGE. And, what crazy person would mix cloud storage with external USB storage.......?
  19. In my general preferences the „Save Location“ ist set to „On my iPad“, which doesn‘t save the changes through to my NAS. Didn‘t try the „iCoud Drive“ setting yet, but I woul assume, that in this case a new file/copy on iCloud Drive is created. Looks like for some people the feature works, and for others it doesn‘t. Maybe it depends on the implementation of the storage provider, which is used by the Files app of iOS, in my case Synology (DS File) and Stratospherix (FileBrowser for Business). Just another thought... I‘m editing a JPG. Is that supported for saving the changes back to the network drive, or is that only working with .afphoto files? The description in the release notes sounds like the feature of saving your changes to the file opend from cloud should work with all file types.
  20. Same for me! In my opinion there is no need for affinity to do this on their own. Why not just cooperate with qnap or synology? This could give us plenty of storage as well as fast backups of and syncing between our devices. Additionally there are no privacy issues. Come on guys, how hard can it be?
  21. Although it doesn’t help the folders issue you might be interested in the FileBrowser app for IOS. It’s integration provides a “share with apps” folder/subfolder. I initially export my image to the share folder then using the FileBrowser I can copy/move the file anywhere including my Synology NAS. It also supports FTP, iCloud, OneDrive etc.
  22. I think this is one big area of improvement all around that needs work. From better integration in iOS 11 (file browser) to using a NAS to sync directly with. For istance if I want to work and edit files located on my NAS. Weather it stores a temp copy locally when editing but keeps everything on the NAS. Or be able to fetch and re upload when done. Obviously network speeds are important here. Most of my files I work with are on my synology. I don’t see just one solution here. I do think this will help a lot of users though. I just think file management needs more work.
  23. Activity Monitor shows several other user processes running, one or more of which may be interacting with Affinity Photo and/or each other in unexpected ways. Possible candidates include Path Finder, Synology, Kaspersky, & Little Snitch. In fact, searching the web on "kav process OS X" (running with root access, no less) turns up at least one multiple complaints about it randomly pushing CPU usage to 100% or more or causing sluggish behavior. If this was something inherently wrong with AP, why don't I see something similar on my older & slower iMac? Why isn't this behavior widely reported in these forums by other Mac users? I don't run any 'helper' or 'enhancement' add-ons, in part because they can interact in undesirable ways & cause hard to diagnose & correct issues, including high CPU usage.
  24. Hi Lee, ok i went back in. SO this is whats happening from beginning to the end; 1. I opened a JPEG stored on mydesktop 2. imported it into Lightroom 3. i was then able to either select edit copy with LR adjustments or edit a copy 4. Both went through fine tint affinity 1. All my images are stored on a Synology network drive 2. turned this drive on 3. Once up and running selected one of the images in lightroom 4. Tried to send an image into affinity " edit a copy with lightroom adjustments" 5. Image will not open and i get the message as described in the start of my thread 6. if i select edit a copy in lightroom, Affinity will open it without any issues Do i make sense? Thanks
  25. I‘m still not able to store/copy *.afphoto files to any of my cloud storages! I have installed: - dropbox - box - google drive - amazon drive - magenta cloud - dscloud (synology) etc. I‘m able to open/import files from there, but NO way back. I‘m not using iCloud Drive and never will so.
