    Hi everybody,
I'd like to share with you this work that I've done last year to learn Affinity Designer. It took two months in my spare time and a total of 40 hours.

The purpose of this project was to manipulate the photograph using just the objects with in the photo,

so lots of cloning and smudging yada yada. haven't titled it yet but bubble boy kept popping in my head

any particular reason why Designer does not have a CLONE or HEAL tool? would be nice so I don't have to bounce back and fourth having both programs running even on a new Mac burns through crazy memory.

    Description:
On my website I'm writing a series of tutorials on how to create a fantasy map using Affinity Designer.  I've seen a lot of tutorials for fantasy cartography, but they all seem to focus on either hand-drawn maps or maps made in raster software.  Using my method, one can create a fantasy map that will scale infinitely and is easier to edit throughout the process.
In this tutorial, I will teach you how to make a versatile map that you can use for stories or role-playing games.

I usually mess about with cartoon-like images just for my fun and the pleasure of creating something.  Yesterday someone asked if I could create a beer image for a friend's birthday and I opened AD and came up with this.  I'm only sharing here since I usually look in here on a daily basis and admire all the talent and wanted to show that I do learn from y'all.   Most times I am a bit shy about showing what I have done since a good bit of it is amateurish at best, but I was pleased with how this came out. I am a staunch Affinity Designer fan!!

    Nice choice of words...
A crazy amount of other applications do not offer the undo button (neither the copy and paste ones, etc). A professional is usually capable to adapt. Is not just the Adobe CC suite (even if that means the main suite for everything 2D till date), and yes, the undo button is slower than a shortcut (like is also fastest to have at least a 30% of the tasks streamlined through shortcuts, I've heard this even from pros now getting into the iPad pro and using it. The few I respect more at it, are not getting ride of the keyboard mainly due to this,  is not just my best/preferred professional usage...) or a pen side button. Reason why a lot of people don't even care.
And about the "fanboy" calling, don't worry, I firmly believe they hear everyone just the same (I have not seen any of my desired fixes or features get any preference, if you were - surely the case, per context- including me in that group of the, so called by you, fanboys). Of course, like always with support, or any business area where you try to complain or improve something, good manners are allways better taken, no matter what... We are all humans, so, certain expressions and tone get you less farther, always.

Affinity is a magic programme. Even a 71 year old can use it (with the help of the Affinity Forum members) When I went to school we did not even have an electronic calculator and computers were a dream in Dan Dare comics. Compare the two images which have been adjusted with affinity tools. The panorama was processed in Affinity from 7 images.  I used MESH-WARP to straighten one lamp post, after the forum members introduced me to this tool. Comments welcomed John Edwin in exile

Hi guys. I want to take part in help for Affinity Photo. Here is custom make grass brushes and example, that was made by me. If you have any comments or ideas to add/fix them - i will adjust/update them.
Each brush - it is not only one image, but at least 3 different variations of it. So when you draw - it draws in series 1,2,3,1,2,3,....like frames in movies - so the grass texture looks more natural and random.
The brush rotates according to drawing direction/route. If you don't need it - got to brush settings Dynamic/Rotation jitter - and set it to ZERO %

2017.12.24 - Version updated to 0.2. See attached pictures for explanations   Also i attach small palette for green hues.
2017.12.18 - They are 4 brushes. First 3 - intensity brushes, and last one - image brush.

These postings confound two aspects of Smart Objects. Affinity offers a similar workflow/functionality to that of PS smart objects, but they do not have the same structure and are thus not interchangeable. Affinity cannot read PSD smart objects, but PS may or may not be able to read the Affinity equivalent. If will all depend on whether the user needs to transfer image files between AF and PS. If not, then AF will offer all the user needs.

I check back from time to time, only to find pages over pages with "where is publisher" posts. Really guys, don't you have anything better to do than bitching about it all the time? I mean if we clear up this thread we will barely get 3-4 pages of posts...
I wait for publisher too, I desperately need it even now that I'm afraid it will not do some tricks with varied numbering I do in iD, but I just wait. Just like I waited for photo and designer to come in windows. And once it arrived, it delivered.
All this waste of energy here, it is almost a shame.
As a side note, I'm a gamer as well and I have seen where this impatience leads to. People were crying for getting a game to play faster and developers where pushing out unfinished games that needed huge patches in the first day of release to work... the games ofc where crippled.
So just say no. Just wait for publisher "when its done", because this is the only way to get something good.

You are not in the position to define that 'the time is now'. We all are not.
Please note that words spelled in capital letters are considered on a forum as an equivalent to yelling.
On the other hand I support the idea of open speach and exchange in the forum ... with respect.

There's no 'priority' issue here. I'm the Project Manager (and Lead Developer) of Affinity Designer, so I'm busy working on my next release (AD for iPad) whereas we have a whole team of developers working on Affinity Publisher and have had for a long time now. My post was really about apologising I've not been around as much as usual (because I'm very busy!) and about reassuring you that Publisher is still coming along nicely from what I can see... I'll move on to help out the team with Publisher imminently, sure, but it's not like there's been a pause while everyone waits for my help!  They're much better at Publisher-specific stuff than me anyway, so I just need to help out in the areas that I'm good at! As with any of our products, they won't be released until we're actually happy with them, because at the end of the day, nobody wants software that doesn't really 'work' properly!
It's difficult from my perspective to imagine what we could have done here to make customers feel less frustrated by the lack of progress?... Development of good software is often an iterative process - it's SO unlikely you'll just hit the sweet-spot on your first go at typing something and you'll need to start again with new knowledge and try something a little different - that process is notoriously terribly difficult to estimate how long it takes. In a world where it only matters if something actually works or not, then maybe your first go would've been good enough and maybe timescales are easier to guess, but we're looking for a great solution, not just any solution... So Publisher seems to be taking a while when viewed from the outside - but there's no 'problem' here, everything is going great and we're converging on something special - but rushing to reach a goal before it's truly ready would just be a terrible idea and would setup the product very badly for the future. I think the 'teaser' video for Publisher we released was partly to show that it really was happening, and partly because we're really excited to show it to you! The guys working on the product are doing their job, but it's also something they're passionate about, so they're proud of their work and want you to enjoy it. The alternative was for us to have never said anything about Publisher at all but then customers would just wonder what we were doing that was meaning we weren't updating Photo/Designer very often recently and then would get frustrated. Hang in there - it's on its way and it's going to be good!

Arba reacted to JET_Affinity in Why I am NOT supporting the Affinity range of software
Egads, Christopher, the original purchase price of an Affinity license is about 30% (or less) of the typical price for a mere version upgrade of most mainstream graphics applications.
For just the most obvious example: Because I will not rent business-critical graphics software, Adobe's arrogant move to entrap all its long-time customers into its Cloudy Captives licensing scheme effectively freed up ~$1200-1500 of software budget from the chronic upgrade cycle for keeping my copy of the so called Master Collection bundle current. That pays for the whole collection of the Serif Plus applications, the Affinity programs, and others, too.
Corel is about to do something similar. As I read the release of its 2018 versions, Corel has announced that version upgrade discounts will no longer be offered to its perpetual license customers (i.e., the ones who pay most per version) unless we also pay a flat per-year "maintenance" fee. A single payment of that "maintenance" fee pays for a perpetual license for both of the Affinity apps.
Times have changed. The monolithic old-world graphics software vendors are desperately clinging to their inflated pricing models, remnants from when desktop graphics was a paradigm shift. It's just not anymore. This stuff isn't rocket science, and Serif is proving that an efficient company can thrive by offering great products at affordable prices.
So while you're as entitled to state your case as anyone, I seriously doubt you're outrage is going to drum up much of a movement; at least not among those of us who have been making our livings with softwares that typically cost five to six times (and more) per upgrade than the price of an Affinity app.
If there's one thing no one should be complaining about regarding the Affinity line, its value per dollar.

Just because, perhaps, you might like it better (is 50 sth bucks, not a purchase you gotta think a lot about, even if having by then some solution for that) , or because the UI and functionality adjusts better to your specific workflows. Who knows. Or, yes, you might discover that Quark is better for your tasks. Or even if happening so, the integration among the suite in terms of the file format, other matters,  pipelines are so good with AP and AD, that you decide to use Apub and solve somehow any feature lack while it grows. One way or the other, you are the winner if you stay with the tool serving better your purposes, being it Quark or APub.  BTW, I agree, Quark was the tool to use for this back in the day. That at least must serve to think they have experience with the professional aspects of publishing, and it did a ton of that type of work, back then. Surely counts for something.
I think though, that developing any application of this complexity takes usually a lot more time to other companies. I don't know why one should expect that Serif would be faster than the software giants. I would understand a complaining tone (not fully, as Serif has the biggest motivation (sells) in releasing it as soon as possible, so, if is not released, there must be very solid reasons for that) a bit better if not released a beta (which I'd still totally understand, been at software developing companies, and cr4p happens, and often is none's fault)  on Winter, but this first beta was promised for the Summer... once again, not at the start, the middle, or the end. That was not specified (as is not that easy to determine). And IMO, you are going to want an at least polished beta...not broken in a bunch of places. Even more, it has been told it is not going to be comparable with InDesign in a lot of time, so, certainly not in this beta. So, why the urge ? If is for a basic use, probably the beta will perfectly do, though (or even their legacy PP).
Edit: About competition in general, in the market. I believe Serif's Affinity has taken a really good spot, with so many unhappy with the subscription, no-options model. Also due to an amazing price difference, unseen for this kind of software complexity. Indeed, in terms of market, I believe it can even boom, if things go in certain way... (AP and AD teams keep polishing the rough corners, etc). The addition of Apub is, IMO, going to help that possible market wave a lot more. No one is speaking of killing the CC, among other things because that suite covers a much wider area, and professional niches (After Effects, Premiere, A. Animate, etc..each owns an entire world of pros and companies workflows) and because too many pipelines in the companies strongly linked to the proprietary formats and to internal in-house code, plugins, etc, on which entire companies depend on, yes or yes. But still, being the second here is so, so huge. The 2D market is way larger than 3D, still today, I saw stats about that, and in terms of business sizes, money moved, the difference was crazy. So, second place here, pretty nice. It can probably get over all of the other alternatives, with most of them that has already happened. All this, IMO, is worth some wait. Is only my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if it needs final work and is released in end of Autumn... I wouldn't get angry or in a carousel of emotions....People here is too young or too old to remember Duke Nukem For Ever, hehe. I mean, if I'd get an euro for every time a software app/game/whatever has been delayed years, not months... Is very common. I prefer to get sth a bit later, and deal the stuff with other apps in the meantime, but get already a first beta with a solid foundation, not to expect an ID killer, but so that for them is easier to build upon that a good publishing solution. Which is going to  take much longer than a summer, obviously, software developments of this size take time...
