They style is a terrible design choice made by an engineer. Now the values must follow suit as a domino brick consequence of that terrible design choice. It is almost like using RawTherapee's sliders.
Photoshop of course also works with floats behind the user interface. But the user is allowed to work with much easier numbers that can be remembered, shared and makes more sense outside a CPU, inside a human brain. How many Serif costumers work in float numbers on a daily basis in any activity in their lifes? How many of the customers coming for tutorials and advice on this forum? How many of the customers who purchased the books?
I still remember the integer values I used for various LAB curves I made in Photoshop 16 YEARS ago.
Only Rainman would remember sets of values like X: 0,247, Y: 0,234.

That is a ridiculous comment. Try the real world. EVEN with a "proper plan" you will often be FORCED to alter it. It is so obvious that this is a forum dominated by amatuers.
And I could mention a lot of scenarios where export of the text content in rich text format is necessary and expected.
That's what lacks in your comment. Knowledge - and especially knowledge about real life scenarios.

(or, more likely, we have all put it in the wrong place and it should be under Window - as should all the other "managers", as per macOS convention)

It's also under View in Photo, which does have a Document menu.
I've always found the placement of items as a mixture between Document, and File, and View a bit confusing. And having the same function in two different places depending on the application doesn't help.

In my opinion there’s nothing wrong with buying 2.0 even if it doesn’t have the added features you’re looking for, as long as you don’t use that purchase as an excuse to complain about it!

Move Along People reacted to quiray in Affinity products for Linux
Another Linux user hoping for native/wine version (I don't want to use VM which is slow and clunky, nor run Windows in VM - supporting MS and also it's probably illegal even with valid "normal" license). In opensource alternatives I personally miss focus stacking and exposure stacking (developing raw files and minor editing work is fine for me). I find interface of GIMP still not great (not that it matters, since it doesn't support those named features). I am just a hobbyist toying with photography and while there are some foss solutions, they are complex and of those I managed to run, results were disappointing (I tried focus stacking on coworker's pc and result in affinity photo was quite good). I am not buying any affinity product until native Linux support is implemented or it runs well in wine. I wouldn't mind paying beforehand (crowdfunding/preorder). Since it's only a hobby, I just won't do macro photography (only bought cheap extension tubes, so virtually no money wasted).
PS: f*** you serif for misleading about registration not required and after submitting suddenly it's required and unless registered the post is discarded. 😠

It's true that that's not Publisher's primary purpose. But it is very convenient to use Publisher even for non-book designs that need cooperation between Photo and Designer, as they can be used more easily in combination via StudioLink rather than by using File > Edit in ....
Therefore, when one is working on a single-page or artboard- or canvas-based design in Publisher, and exporting to a pixel-based format, it would be very convenient to have the Preview available. I hope Serif considers that enhancement in the future.

Move Along People reacted to chessboard in Is Affinity Designer even developed anymore?
    @PaRunk
All nice and right what you're saying. But in the end the question for people who use the software to do their work and to generate income is: does it have the functions I need to do the job? At first, can it do the job at all, and second can it do it with the least amount of afford and the less time that's possible. And as sad as it is, I have to say that the Affintiy Suite is not the tool at the moment.
It is allways claimed that it's hard work to develop such software. Of course it is, no doubt! But if you look around, there are some softwares that are also created by smaller teams and that develop much faster. For me the most impressive example are the two guys behind Photoline. But take Vector Styler for another example, or Vectornator. And after all, there has been the knowledge at Serif to implement the features. They were mostly there in Draw Plus! and the other Serif softwares. Thus it's not the point that they have to invent the wheel another time. And last but not least, not all concepts and software techniques behind the features are intellectual property of individual companies and thus inaccessible. Many things are just mathematics, many are published as white papers or part of open source libraries. And many features that are missing in the Affintiy softwares are just small extensions to the existing ones (just make solo mode permanent, for example. Just don't leave it by clicking somewhere on the canvas).
And finaly, there's the point that we live in the year 2021. There are softwares that have evolved over decades and set the standards today. If you come into the market today (or better 7 years ago) and claim to have a professional software, you have measure yourself against the existing standards of professional software. You can just as easily not enter the car market today and say, "Hey, our car now has a gasoline engine and even manual transmission!"
I'm afraid Affinity has found its niche in the semi-pro market, both in terms of features and price. And at least for me, it's not the costs that count. I would happily pay more, really more, if the Affinity softwares would be pushed to a real professional level.

Move Along People reacted to Jowday in Is Affinity Designer even developed anymore?
I am deeply involved in software development of a huge project and at this time two huge projects of national importance. Actually three now covid-19 is here. We are scaling up and down from one to several teams and funding is great at times, sometimes not. I know a thing or two about building products from the ground and up. Was involved in four major projects similar to Affinity: starting from scratch on new platforms. There is a factor these apologist posts totally - totally - misses: management decisions, product vision and just plain vanilla business priorities.
My job is to tell developers (entire teams) what to do next. Their job is to offer advice about how to do it and to then implement the features. If we need a bigger team to reach the target and in time, my job is to get the extra money from management. Usually not a big problem if there is a business priority behind and a well defined business case. Architecture and complexity is a huge part of software development and you have to build things in the right order. But you also have to adjust the team for the tasks and projects at hand. The alternative is starvation of resources, reduced speed of development and goals not met and in the end... failure to meet expectations. And all that follows. Sounds familiar? We are super agile and flexible. Because we HAVE to.
No need for these endlessly repeating apologist explanations about why Affinity is developed they way it is and why it takes time. Guestimates from deep down the Mariana Trench.

I don't see any point in a third-party petition for a feature when we already have a feature request forum right here, which is the best way to get feedback to Serif. In view of the many hundreds (or probably thousands would be more appropriate) of requests for this or that feature, I really do not advise we get into a habit of starting petitions for feature requests. I suppose it doesn't really hurt anything to have a post somewhere else if that is all it is, but I really would rather not start seeing people spam the forum to go to an external source instead of having meaningful discussion right here.
That is my opinion anyway. Maybe others agree, or maybe no one else sees it that way, but I thought I would say something.

    Auto-update: Soon
    ---
We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.9.0.902 is now available as a download from the link above.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is significant update from the 1.8 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous or future versions of Affinity Publisher.

I don't usually comment but all I can say is Amazing! and big Thank you! Affinity People for your continued support...It is obvious that a lot of people are struggling with current events!...
These offers do not apply to me...which does not concern me in the slightest...The applications are a bargain at full price!...but it's not about the price....It is about what you can achieve... I am just relieved that I had the incentive to engage with this software in the first instance...into my fifth year now...with over 200 drawings and 1000's of brushes and assets!... none of which would have been completed without these apps!

I cannot believe that there would be any negative response... to offering software that is innovative, evolved so rapidly at a discount...

I have just received your completely unnecessary email of 19 January "We’re here to help – use our apps free for 90 days" WHY I am a registered used of all three apps plus add ons. I do not need to be offered a 90  Day Free Trial, and 50% off all apps etc.
Unnecessary emails clog up email in boxes and will tend in the future to just dump email from affinity without reading them.
Someone in your marketing departments needs to be sacked.
