Not for me. Not by a long shot.
I have mentioned this before, we need to realize that Serif is working with limited resources. If we make the comparison with Adobe and their vast company (read resources) then we can draw the conclusion that Serif is doing a marvelous job! They are also not charging us an arm and a leg for a beautiful program.
Perhaps we need to be a little more patient.
    Best Regards Peter.

It was the "new" license model of Adobe that made me look into Affinity Photo. After a short time of trying out I found a lot of workflow improvements over PS and consequently changed to that new product. And this was not a bad decision. The other Apps I purchased mainly in order to support Serif because I hardly need and use them. However, nothing is perfect, and so I, too, have some wishes towards Serif regarding AP as the focus:
    1. Stay with your actual license model and ask for extra money on updates when needed. On machines in production use, internet is a risk and costs performance. As we all are forced by leading companies to change hardware from time to time, it is convenient to keep internet on the "old" hardware separated.
    2. Solve annoying bugs in acceptable time and reduce number of beta versions in return if that helps
    3. Look more into workflow subjects (e.g. macro) than into new (Pro) features. Increase that intelligent little things that make it smart and fast to use
    4. A DAM from Serif would be nice but is not the urgent thing. There are products like AcdSee in the market which are sufficient in their features and ultra fast when using two screens for photo work.
BTW: I am not a Pro, but working speed is a must for me. Its often that I have appr. 2000 shots per Event on my storage card with resulting 50 to 100 photos to develop and process. And then its a real difference if you need 5 hours for that or 5 days. At present that is my most important feature of AP when I compare to other products.

A subscription plan will make me walk away on the day it comes out .... if it ever happens. And I would not be the only one I'm sure.
A permanent Internet connexion to be able to use the software would get me do the same thing.
So many users walked away from Adobe to go to Affinity... why would they do that ?
But I dont worry very much about that.

It’s nothing wrong with the ambition to replace the Adobe suit for some of its users, and it’s pretty obvious that Photo/Designer/Publisher aims for Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign.
That is actually how I use them, and l’ve been using the Adobe products for a long time (all the way back to Aldus Pagemaker days!). But you have to set your expectations accordingly and accept that you will stumble on various WTF:s when some feature is missing or not working as well as the Adobe equivalent.

there are two alternatives, for windows is the Abemeda  and the neoFinder voor Macintosh.
AbeMeda works perfect and you can directly open Affinity.   For mac it will works the same I think.
You can use max 5 free databases with no subscribe.

Speaking of which, I'm a little annoyed that I forgot to send a big hello to the forum's knight and gentleman, Walt.
I have researched Affinity's history by scanning the forum far and wide, and everywhere I see posts from the world's most helpful and courteous man, @walt.farrell
I hope one day Serif sends you a recognition and reward, for it is an extraordinary effort you are making. Among the world's many helpful people, you are in the elite, Walt.
I just wanted to make sure you heard someone say that. You've probably heard it before.

    Best regards,

None of your fears are correct.
In the last two years, Serif have had their two biggest years in our 30 year history. Our staff team is extraordinarily stable and has been growing at about 10% for the last 3 years.
Anyone who sells anything like our software knows you make far more money when you have a sale on than when you don't, and we quite like that.

Here’s my last attempt for today.
Brush used – Acrylics – Gradual Acrylic Cotton Paper 02
    Live Motion Blur of 16px
Some minor edits with the Erase Brush.
It’s still not right but it’s better than before, I think.
Still needs lots of work for highlights/shadows/etc.

Hi, @MichaelJCand welcome to the forums.
The hardware acceleration works, unfortunately not with all combinations of CPU and GPU. The problem is that the drivers for the graphics cards are all optimised for games, but not for graphics programmes. NVIDIA still offers the option of using the Studio drivers instead of the Game Ready drivers. But even this does not guarantee that the hardware acceleration will work.

    Hey @anniefarbs
I don't think your problem is the same as @Studio97Visuals problem. So I doubt there's any need for you to worry about your RAM. Hopefully one of Affinity's staff can help you soon.

As you are using a windows Insider build of Windows 11 Microsoft may have may an alteration that affects the video drivers or our program accessing memory, on my PC which has the same amount of RAM as your PC but running Windows 11 release version my Affinity Photo version 1.10.5 does not have the same high memory usage.

Why is this still a problem? I don't expect slow performance on a blank document with a simple brush. I've tried disabling OpenCL and various graphic cards but it still awful to use. This is exactly how you lose users.....

DigitalVisuals reacted to Hannibal in Affinity DAM
I don't understand that a DAM is seen as less important than new functionality in the existing apps. Let me first add that I really enjoy using affinity's apps and I recommend them to everybody. They are priced fairly, treat their users well and produce great apps. But I have reached a point where my workflow is challenged as long as I stay with Affinity.
I shoot several photos and need a system to rank the photos and add meta data for searching and selecting. I also need to basic edit several files and export several files. I select a few shots that I edit in Affinity Photo. That workflow isn't supported by Affinity's apps.
Today I use Exposure X7 and I have tried a lot of different solutions like ACDsee, Nero, Adobe Bridge, XnViewXp, Digicam, Nikon's software etc. as a supporting software to Affinity Photo. Exposure X7 support adjustment of several files (copy settings) and and export of several files. It's without a central database and therefore is slow, but easy to move files. It's RAW engine is okay, but not on level with Affinity's.
Earlier I used Adobe Lightroom. Before that I used Canons DPP. Both I liked. Lightroom demand a lot of space on your HD for the database and moving photos has to be done in Lightroom AND I hate their business model. I shoot Nikon today...
I really would like to stay with Affinity, but are very close to give up and just pay the monthly payment for Lightroom to ease my work with my photos. With that monthly fee I also get access to Photoshop. Why stay at Affinity if Lightroom and Photoshop is better integrated?
Personally I prefer a DAM with Affinity's RAW editing integrated than new features and iPad versions.

I would also like to see this or similar feature. "FIlter > Distort..." is only for pixel based layers in AP, and it doesn't offer any control over how the object will be distorted.
The OP was thinking about the tool, not the simple filter, that would give proper predictable ways of free distortion. Puppet Warp definitely comes to mind especially the tool used by the Spine software.

Hardware Acceleration was introduced about a year ago with version 1.9x. It caused problems for some users (me included). HA fails with certain GPU/drivers. Some users have found upgrading drivers helps. A few have found downgrading helps. The rest of us will just have to wait for Affinity to work some magic.
