Rick G got a reaction from Max N in Artifacts rectangle.
Is that a photo problem or just your graphics card trying to keep up with the high resolution?

Rick G reacted to Alfred in Layer clipping
When you ‘crop to shape’, the cropping object completely disappears. When you clip a layer, any non-overlapping parts of the clipview object remain visible.

Rick G reacted to stokerg in Setup failure
Hi @EMHmark7 Normally for this kind of an error, a restart of the PC and then running our setup as admin would get round this error. If that doesn't work, could you attach the log file here. To get the log file, follow the steps here

Rick G reacted to walt.farrell in Inserting Text Frames by pasting but text is flowing only on one side of the facing page
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.
Presumably you are creating a Text Frame on the left side of your Master Page, and another on the right side. You need to link them before text will flow properly.
Once you've created the two Text Frames, click on the linking triangle on the lower-right side of the frame on the left page. Then click the frame on the right page. That will link them, and after that when you create pages from that Master, and flow text, it will flow correctly.

Rick G reacted to PaulEC in Adding Multiple Photos
That isn't really what "Place" is for: the idea is that you select the images and then "place" them in the document either singly or several, one after another. It isn't intended to be some sort of storage space.
The best way to do what you want is to open each picture and then add it to the "Assets" panel, then drag them out as you need them. Alternatively you could open thumbnails in an image browser (such as Irfanview) and just drag them into your document.

Rick G reacted to walt.farrell in Step and Repeat
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Ken C..
There is already a function like that, called Power Duplicate (online help). Though some users have asked for it to be done via a dialog.
Basically:
Make an object. Duplicate it (Cmd+J (Mac) or Ctrl+J (Windows)). Move it. Duplicate it again as in 2, and the new copy is automatically moved identically as in 3. For something like business cards on a form you would probably set up one row by using Power Duplicate. Then use Power Duplicate to duplicate that row as needed.
But for your use-case, you might instead consider "N-Up" printing, which is an option in the Print dialog.

Rick G reacted to garrettm30 in Colors and text styles, and, and
That is the way that it should and does work in my experience. If you are changing the text color in a paragraph style, and it does not update for you, then these are my guesses as to the cause:
The text has a local color override on top of the paragraph style. The text is assigned either to a child style that overrides the color or the parent or a character style that overrides the color. Perhaps there is a bug that is causing it not to work in this circumstance. If you could share a simplified version of such a file where changing the text color of a paragraph style does not update as expected, then we can have a look at it. We could then point out what the issue is, or, in the case of a bug, it will serve as the starting point for a bug report.
As for the color topics, I'll leave that to others. For myself, I usually work in an RGB environment, and HSL is the easiest way to work with colors, but HSL itself is not a colorspace. It has a direct relationship to RGB, but I forget the technicalities of why. Rather than a colorspace, it is a color model (way of looking at color), and it works better for me to think in terms of hue, saturation, and lightness, than in the additive mix of red, green, and blue. I do know that red plus green results in yellow, but it is not intuitive in my way of thinking. Affinity provides multiple color models, each of which maps to the colorspace in use in the document, so I encourage you to stick with the one that works best for you.

Rick G reacted to dominik in White Text on Black Background (was: Peter)
Hello @PHWNZ and welcome to the forum.
Sometimes I am amazed with which use cases people come up that I couldn't think of ... and I don't mean this in a negative way 🙂
In APub there is no option to output a negative of you layout but you may want to try this:
Create a rectangle on top of a page you want to output as negative. Set the rectangle's fill to black. Set the rectangle's fill method (dropdown at the top of the layers panel) to 'Negation'. This should turn your page to some kind of negative of its content. Is this what you are looking for?

Rick G reacted to walt.farrell in Guides Manager: Copy Guides & and keep panel open
Agreed.
In the meantime, as a workaround (in case youre not aware of it), you can create a Master Page, put the Guides on it, and then apply the Master to any spreads that need those guides. Of course, when applying this new Master, you'll need to remember to not replace any existing Master the spread may have

Rick G reacted to v_kyr in HOW CAN I EXPORT EPUB WITH AFFINITY PUBLISHER
Despite the fact that PDF-to-EPub isn't the overall best or foolprove conversion route for generating Epub files, Calibre is one of the best and feature richest apps in this EPUB tooling field I know of. - Related to Affinity Publisher, actually it's limited in wider output format generation (or publishing related import/export formats in general) capabilities. For sure it would benefit to have some more format options here in order to exchange data with other apps.

Rick G reacted to debraspicher in How would I make a stripe like this?
You can do it in either program, using Pen tool or Shape tools. Designer is ideal for this task as it has more capabilities to work with vector graphics. Below I use Designer. Pen tool takes a little bit of practice to get curves perfected, but well worth it to learn the tool. It is helpful to draw on sketch form first with as clean of lines as possible, as large as possible (avoid thumbnail) so that when you scan over, you can use it as a template.
Another trick, sometimes much easier for these types of curves, you can use oval/circle tool and other shape tools. For example, draw your circle/oval, overlay on the first curve and "cut out" using Subtract using a throw-away shape..... You can then use Pen tool to create throw-away shape to "snip" any "distenders".
For more detailed look into this, look up Von Glitschka. He has a very detailed book on this, as well as a Lynda//LinkedIn course, though his is mastery is to point of illustration-level. He is also focused on logos/general design. You can get away with using shape tools and using "throw away" shapes to cut away to get the curves you need from those larger ovals... you would do a series of shapes and "throw aways" to alter the original shapes, keep "grouping"/merging those shapes and cutting away until you get your final shape.. in fact, this is often best practice, because you get the "clearest" results. Harder to explain in writing... so here is quick video...
My example is not the most precise/cleanest, but it's just to show the general idea of cutting away from a larger shape to get to your final. Using pen tool to edit those final shapes by either adding extra shapes, or making throw aways (sacrificial shapes for subtract step). it's important to have snapping off and any guides off during these steps. Or, at least reduce it to a level where it won't get in the way except when you need certain cuts made.

Anyway, this is in the wrong forum. No problem, it happens. A mod will move the post where it should go?

Rick G reacted to MattP in Please include pan tool in Affinity Designer (Quadriplegic here)
Yes, definitely - I'm really sorry, I didn't fully consider the consequences of not including this tool in Designer I will try to add it for next time, but it might be a preferences option to enable it (so that we retain a visual consistency between versions for other users)
Thanks!
Matt

Rick G got a reaction from lepr in Reset button for the clone brush
If anyone uses the clone brush a lot and is constantly changing the angle, scale or flipping the selection, you might agree with having a button to reset the brush back to defaults
