Rick G reacted to TheWindowSeatistaken in Editing Drone shots on IPAD PRO (From a Photoshop Expat)
HEY Hows everyone doing on here.....
I wanted to share some of my work but figured since its my first post I'd share a little about myself as well.
Im new to the whole Affinity program but Ive been a Hi-End retoucher for over the past 9 years. Currently Im a retouching manager in New York specializing in beauty and Product retouching. At work we're using the Top of the Line MAC's fully spec'd out with the "industry standard" photoshop ....... BUT I've been looking for something equally as capable as photoshop but mobile!
AND HERE's where AFFINITY comes in...
This thing is amazing! Every time I use it I find myself going back to work the next day with another "Guess what else affinity Does" story. lol. Im shocked It can handle the files it does and I'm sure its only going to get better from here.
Ive been quietly looking around on this forum and all ready see SO many talented people. So I hope to bring some of my perspective from someone who uses photoshop all day at work. But then AFFINIY for my personal on the go projects.
Some info on the file -
Theres over 60 layers of just umbrellas and shadows! (ZERO Slow down in app).
The file closed is about 400mb but opened its 1.18gb.
This was shot with my Dji Mavic Pro.
Completely edited start to finish in AFFINITY Photo for Ipad Pro

Rick G reacted to AffinityBrah in How can I make this more realistic?
Ok, thanks for response!
Does this look better? I duplicated background and you could probably tell, but what is the method for seamless feathering? I just went to Affinity Photo and used the Inpainting Brush. Not sure if there is a better method. Is there a way so that duplicated background doesn't look so obviously duplicated?

Rick G reacted to bor in How can I make this more realistic?
If You look closer at that wooden background, somethins is just not right, the facture and knags, are to big, unless it is coat for ants Try to scale background way down, if needed duplicate multiple time (semless feathering get job done)
Also lighting is off, on the flor is from right to left but on cout in oposit way from left to right, look at casted shadows by rinkles.

Rick G reacted to AffinityBrah in How can I make this more realistic?
Hi guys!
I am practicing placing products specifically clothing on different backgrounds. Does something seem off to you guys? It does to me, but I can't pinpoint.
So the jacket was on a white background. I cut out the white background. Placed in the wood background. Then added an outer shadow in similar, but darker color to the wood background. I added slight inner shadow.
As a photographer, I am trying to find a way to minimize the amount of large wood backgrounds. I want to be able to take a picture of any product and realistically place it on any background matching shadows and highlights of the background I am putting it on. Just as if I really had this wood background.
These photos aren't mine, but just practicing.

Rick G reacted to Unsatisfied ex-customer in Affinity Photo Customer Beta - 1.6.3.96
Two questions:
I purchased Photo from the Windows Store. Therefore I have no product key. So I cannot install and try betas? I have a key for Designer though - will betas install in a separate directory so I can use it for test, but also use the stable version for production work?
Thanks
EDIT:
Found answer (which is currently no) to this here Still not sure about 2? -

Rick G reacted to Frances Proctor in peacock feathers
just a bit of fun. main work done in designer the eye of the feather was created in designer then edited in photo. I really like how I can go into photo apply a live filter and then come back into designer and have that live filter in designer and editable.

Rick G reacted to Hokusai in Daruma
Just thought I would share a vector illustration that I recently did in Affinity Designer for some nengajo (Japanese New Years cards) that I was working on. For those not familiar with the Daruma (doll), they are normally sold at temples (and some stores carry them) and people buy them when they have a goal that they want to strive for. When you buy the Daruma, it has two blank eyes and you draw one eye in when you start trying to achieve your goal and then you draw the second eye in once you have achieved your goal. I remember reading that the Russian Matryoshka dolls were inspired by the Daruma doll but I don't know if this is true or not?

This is exactly the same respone as every before. I don't want to be rude debraspicher. I know you want to help and i appreciate it... but have you read what i wrote ??
After checking dozens of drivers, on different systems where only AP did not work correctly, you still asking "are we sure it is not a Wacom problem?".... So what esle people can do to be at last sure whether it is or not a Wacom problem? This is becoming ridiculous. It is an AP problem because AP is the only one that does not handle Wacom properly. The alternative statement would be that all ofther softwares (which handle Wacom well) are doing it wrong. Does poeple truly believe in the latter ?
To be honest most people who had a Wacom drivers problem was those who did autoupdate from Wacom Desktop Center. It does not make a clean driver installation and have caused many problems over the years. I have no clue why they still didn't fix the auto aupdate, people just go with that and then complain (justified) to Wacom that new driver is broken. I did that too couple years ago, but after that i always do a clean install of new drivers and have never had problem again.

Rick G reacted to debraspicher in Affinity Photo Customer Beta - 1.6.3.96
Are we sure this is not a Wacom issue? Not saying that Affinity can't improve their brush stabilization. This can definitely be improved upon 4 sho and there is definitely a lower quality to brush work in AP. OneNote looks very similar as it has no stabilizers.
I'm on an Intuos4 and tbh, I get shaky lines outside AP. I am considering backdating my drivers a few years back, because so many people have complained about Wacom's drivers having caused more issues with shakiness (particularly Cintiq users). It's making me hold back on upgrading my tablet. Though this is only the Intuos' and Cintiq I've heard issues with.
YMMV
Edit: By the way, I'll be glad to participate in any troubleshooting/brush engine testing mega-thread. Just PM me. Maybe we can help to get this issue resolved.

Rick G reacted to Manofjesus in Grass brush for AP - updated to v.0.2
Hi guys. I want to take part in help for Affinity Photo. Here is custom make grass brushes and example, that was made by me. If you have any comments or ideas to add/fix them - i will adjust/update them.
Each brush - it is not only one image, but at least 3 different variations of it. So when you draw - it draws in series 1,2,3,1,2,3,....like frames in movies - so the grass texture looks more natural and random.
The brush rotates according to drawing direction/route. If you don't need it - got to brush settings Dynamic/Rotation jitter - and set it to ZERO %
2017.12.24 - Version updated to 0.2. See attached pictures for explanations Also i attach small palette for green hues.
2017.12.18 - They are 4 brushes. First 3 - intensity brushes, and last one - image brush.

Rick G reacted to Roger C in Free Copy of DxO FilmPack
DxO are offering their FilmPack 5 Essential Edition free until 31st December.
Clicking on this link takes you to their German website: http://www.dxo.com/de/profifoto
Enter an email address and they send a download link with a serial number. You can choose your preferred language for the software.
It's fully functional and free, but instead of the Elite version this is the cut-down Essential edition. I don't think it will work as an Affinity plugin; I am not sure about that.
Even so I thought I'd give it a whirl to compare it with the Nik Collection.
To the Mods: I hope this post about non Affinity software doesn't turn me into either a troll or some spam. If I've made a mistake please delete.

Rick G reacted to v_kyr in Xmas FB Cover
Here is a quick made variation of the above FB cover, but this time for new year. - Note that you have (as always) to adjust colorings etc. to your likings.
I altered the initial vector drawn christmas motive for the cover image to be now more new eye like ...
I've also reused groups of drop like curves for a sort of simple firework here. These drops can be easily filled with the FX effects and/or styles (inner/outer shine and gradients etc.) to give them the slightly illusion of explosion glow here ...
Here are the corresponding AD files:
