Here it is a short video featuring the competing product in action. I really don't understand why people think that this must be so complicated.
Publisher already needs to calculate the length of the line when you apply bold to the majority of the line. The result of the calculation is the last word going to the next line.
    It's not rocket science.

Part of that bug fix was to change the behaviour so it now does what you want (if I understand you correctly). It used to do current page number + 1. Now it finds the next frame in the text flow, finds which page it is on, and returns that page number. The change in the menu option label is intended to reflect this change in behaviour.

    Hey osang,
There might be more to it than the Display option as I've tried them all and I can't reproduce it. Please let me know if you see this again as it sounds like a pretty serious issue. Many thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, but this is a very fluid time in the development process (60+ new fixes will be in this week's beta build alone, hopefully available tomorrow).
To other readers of this thread, the main reason why we would not suggest that any beta build is used for Production use is that we are not necessarily save/load safe. We cannot guarantee that files saved in one beta will load into the next. So you risk losing access to your production work ( unless you stick with that build ) Now while we try really hard to make sure we do this ONLY if we have to, but the beta may find problems that can only be solved with a feature rethink. So please do try out Affinity Publisher to mock up your work but be aware that until the product is for sale the file format may (very small chance but may) change irreversibly without prior warning. We would never do this to paying customers and would always honour files created in official release builds.

One thing I really miss coming from PP to Pub and that is the most convenient feature of having the move tool change automatically to a text tool when hovering over a text frame or text box. Also consequently automatically changing back to a move tool when leaving that area. A very logical and time-saving feature that I have always treasured in PP. They say "you don't miss a thing until you lose it", I find that is true in this case.

A print sample of a news tabloid,  the two pages are created in publisher.

For test purposes, I replicated all paragraph styles from InDesign (some are not possible in Publisher), and found that there are still weird stuff going on with the tables, and strange rasterizing of text if the text layer is waaay below the layers of photos when I export it on 'pdf (for print).' ( I use Black and White layer adjustment to change the RGB photos, I like it!). I guess, by arranging the texts on top of the photos, and export again in pdf...voila, the text are crispy clear. My other concern are there's no color separation preview, and pdfs created from other applications--placed in publisher...still rusty--should be as is.

Apub's End Character (Up to & including the end character) is not equal to ID's option of Up to (Up to & not including the Up to character) is not equal.
Instead of APUb's method of a single, mostly worthless option, a drop down of options (not explicitly seen in the ID screen shot) should be how Initial Words work. QXP has similar options as ID, though it does not have Nested Styles. Instead it has a Conditional Style option (different than ID's use of the same term) to achieve the same result as ID's Nested Styles.

Hi Guys. We print directly from InDesign using our RIPs PPD file. From InDesign print dialogue we can choose which plates to send to the RIP.
When we send a four colour document the rip receives/creates a plate for each colour. The plate is produced on our plate maker and manually put onto our litho printer and off you go.
Theres no need for us to create PDFs. The RIP has a hold queue and when we are ready to create the plates we then send them from the rip software to the plate maker (just like sending a file to print).

I had placed this in the wrong section of the forum.. Sorry.

I sometimes get this black square popup on images I have placed, then in the edit tab, and it won't go away. Actually trying to see if linked from embedded made a difference just crashed the app' Master & Pages were open. When I looked at the Pages (it was on) it wasn't there, I looked at the Navigator and it wasn't there, I would click back to the Page and it wasn't there, I would click the image to edit and the black square was there. This also happened in the last build.
It has happened before but I don't remember what type it was. This one tho was a pdf file from inDesign, I was fooling around with.

APub beta version 58 has a bug where any image placed on a master page will cause the document to crash once saved and reopened
The next APub beta should fix this bug (expected soon)
Attached is your document with the image on the master page removed.
Do NOT add an image back to the master page or it will crash again.

osang got a reaction from wobmann in Is there such thing like an auto-page numbering for a linked text?
In a newspaper, there are stories to jump on different pages. In InDesign there is a tool 'Current Page Number,' where I can put a marker for continuation and another for a jumped story--it automatically detects where and from the page is and thus create a page number. I tried to replicate it on APublisher but seems not working?

I asked the same question a week or so ago under the title Continued on and Continued from Page Numbering and you can probably find it if you search for that but the basic answer was not in v1.7 but is on the list for later releases.

    Status: Public Beta

Any problems actually using this version please post to post in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Many thanks for your continued feedback.

I know there's an eye icon on a text frame if there's overflowed text, but if the frame isn't selected there's no visual warning you've got overflowed text, nor is there if I then attempt to export or print the file - I know I need this because Id frequently warns me of this, when I try to export pdfs with overflowed text!

osang reacted to AdamW in BLEED BLEED BLEED AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!
We had a problem where newly created pages / spreads were not automatically adopting the document bleed settings, and of course this affected export. This has been fixed. You should see this fix plus bleed preview on screen in the main view in an update, hopefully later this week.
If you wish, the bleed on export problem can be worked around for the time being by setting the document bleed margins to a different value (so a change is registered) and then back to the desired values.

osang reacted to Loquos in Setting Margins & Columns w/ Gutters
When setting up a layout grid in my Master pages, it's super handy to be able to say "Make my margins this size, and within the remaining working space, separate into X columns with a gutter of Y". I've attached the setup and window in InDesign as an example (orange) to compare to Publisher (purple).
In Publisher, it's currently only possible to set margins - everything else I have to set up manually with the Guide Manager. Any chance the ability to set columns & gutters as part of the margins settings will be future feature?

    Hi osang
Once you've created your text on a curve, simply hit Enter once and you can begin typing on the other side of the curve, then adjust the red and green handles to suit your needs. Unfortunately there isn't a direct Reverse Text Path option like on the desktop.

osang reacted to toltec in Reverse text path on iPad?
If you put some text on a path,  click on the Pen Tool and then the extended Context Toolbar arrow (to the right of the Toolbar) and there is a "Reverse Text Path" button in there.
P,S I believe you need to have On-screen modifier keys switched on (Preferences > Interface) to access the extended Context Toolbar option. If you don't have them on already.
