Hanzz reacted to retrograde in Retro Lambretta Vintage travel art
Hello fellow Affinity aficionados, in continuing my scooter series for Redbubble, here is my second retro styled scooter/travel poster. This time a Lambretta featuring a young couple scootering about Paris in the fall.
All done in Designer 1.6
Check it out on my Redbubble site as well.

Hanzz reacted to Gnobelix in sharpen with bilateral blur
I would like to introduce here a method of sharpening.
This method is not new, many will know it from Photoshop.
For those who do this method not know, i reconstructed it in AP.
Step 1. open the picture and editing e.g. HSL balance, white balance etc.
Step 2. select the top layer.
Step 3. duplicate the layer with keyboard shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + E twice.
Step 4. change blend mode to Linear Light
Step 5. invert the Layer with keyboard shortcut CTRL + I
Step 6. opacity to 50% (important that the 50% are met exactly)
Step 7. filters-blur - bilateral blur: adjust radius to 5 pix
and adjust tolerans between 45% and 55% (i think the the optimal value is 50%)
Step 8. layer - merge down with keyboard shortcut CTRL + E
Step 9. adjust the new layer blend mode from normal to overlay (with the opacity playing)
Step 10. create a mask layer, (to select areas that are not needed)
All steps are in a macro recording, see below
Best Regards
Gnobelix

Hanzz reacted to Scungio in Affinity Publisher - Sneak Preview
Was it just me or at the beginning of the video, didn't it look like there were three personas? But the two Personas to the right of Publisher, those look like the icons for Designer and Photo, no?
So, are we literally going to have access to ALL of the features and functions of both Designer and Photo within Publisher?

Don't do that. This is still the unbeatable king of graphic software. There will be other occasions in the future. Would be regretted when the time comes

Hanzz reacted to boxy in Freebie brush download
Hello all
I just posted a freebie brush download, Fabriano 3b, a posterised derivative of a brush from my new set. I really liked using it and would love to know whether you download it and how you use it.
Thanks for looking.

Hanzz got a reaction from AffinityAppMan in Introduce Yourself
The program is a blast ! I'm having heeps of fun, just been playing with bitmapfills, I'm so going to love the program !
The caricature is a sample of my work, I was testing stuff, to see how to make a poster for a show of my work.
The other shapes just came up, inspired by the great work displayed in the webste.
So far for showing off, I will post more once I have a decent picture....

A few hours later.....
Just began with the detailing. This is so much fun ! (fun that will last some time........ )
The program behaves well.
Just one moment when all the memory drained in seconds.(after some 2 hours).
Restarting the program and it all went back OK. Something to keep an eye on, IMO....
As you can see in the screenshot, I save the undo history. So, when the picture is done, I can maybe share it, and everyone can roll it back to see it devellop.
EDIT: file is getting big....487MB

Testing a newly made brush, based on the tuturial provided by PAOLO (http://www.paololimoncelli.com/bristles-for-affinity-designer/ )
Mixing goes well. This one was a caricature I started in Mischief, and abandoned.
I won't completely finish it, but it gave me the drive to do a good one very soon....
So keep an eye open on this space... ;)

Thanks, Ronniemcbride.
For the (usual) non believers, thinking this is just liquify and making it look like a painting..here's the step by step.
Have fun !

Hanzz reacted to justwilliam in Manual or Tutorial
Just imagine if Affinity/Serif were to make the help files, in iBook format, available via the App Store. Updates which altered the help files could then also be downloaded. It could even contain the official Affinity tutorials. I am not using a second display but I would love to have the ability to view the help files and tutorials on my iPad whenever needed instead of switching its window in front of or behind what I am working on. Of course there is this wonderful suggested PDF work-around, but not everyone can or would do that.

Hanzz reacted to mac_heibu in UI labels hard to read
Look at this forum: I bet, you can’t tell, that Affinity UI is of a higher readability than the text entries here.
The biggest mistake in my eyes however (not only done by Affinity) is the return of dark UIs.
I formerly said it in a different thread: We pioneers computer based graphic designers struggled a long, long time very hard to get one thing: Paperwhite displays (hello Atari, hello Calamus!). In Germany and within the European Community for example there are very clear governmental regulations about the maintenance of industrial health and safety – pointing out, that negative text should be avoided wherever it is possible. I understand, that fashion and coolness considerations obviously forbid to develop clear and crisp UIs. But if it isn’t even possible to offer negative and positive display rendering (what by the way Adobe does in most of its applications), then at least try to supply the highest possible contrast and allow bigger font sizes. The options within "Preferences" are definitely not sufficient.
Again: If you want to exclude a lot of possible users – do it, but tell us, that there are no further plans to meet the needs of people without perfect eyesight.

I really don't know, why the Affinity team so heavily sticks to this really bad UI design. It may look fancy, but it really obstructs one's workflow. Starting Affinity means pressing your nose onto the screen …
