nonresidentalien reacted to gafvert in Importing PDFs: Conversion of all text into text frames rather than artistic text
I'd like to add to this as well. When pasting in pdf illustrations (in my case UI-mockups with lots of little text labels into storyboard documents) it's very annoying that each text element in the illustrations gets made into a text box with a visible blue box around it. It would be good if there was an option to import text in graphics as artistic text.
Also, I can't find any way to convert text boxes back to artistic text (preferably for all selected objects)? Is there a way to do this? Maybe that's a way that we can get around this problem until a preference is added.

nonresidentalien got a reaction from hubob in Importing PDFs: Conversion of all text into text frames rather than artistic text
Since one of the more recent updates, all text in imported PDFs is converted to Text boxes rather than artistic text, irrespective of the options chosen when importing the file (i.e. 'Group lines of text into text frames' checkbox deselected). While this may be a good choice for many texts, it completely screws up the workflow for (scientific) illustrations with text labels coming from other applications. Below I have illustrated the consequences of a font change by 2.8pt if everything is imported as box vs artistic text.
Please fix soon, or give option to prefer artistic text over text frames for single line texts.

    Dear developer team,
Also I am really missing a this basic selection tool that would make my live so much easier. I often work with figures coming from different scientific programs and cleaning and unifying those up takes a lot of work as one has to chase all instances of a certain color, line thickness etc by hand... I am also sure that every graphical designer who change their mind mid-design would really be grateful for this feature.
    Thanks for considering,

    Hello,
Someone knows if the tables in AP will allow applying simple formulas of numerical calculation (something similar to what Excel does or ID through plugins: http://www.dtptools.com/product.asp?id=atid&more=features).
    That would be great!
    Thank you

    Dear developer team,
Thanks for implementing so many feature request! Besides the now implemented 'align to key object', which I very frequently use, I am missing a very basic selection tool that would make my live so much easier. It would be great if there was an option to select all objects that share the same line for fill color, line thickness, font property etc.. I often work with figures coming from different scientific programs and cleaning and unifying those up takes a lot of work as one has to chase all instances of a certain color, line thickness etc by hand... Thanks Aammppaa, this post is more of a feature request, and to trigger the a fresh discussion for people who would also like to have DAM in Affinity products. As far as I understand, this part of the forum is exactly for this purpose. I took me and others several forum threads and years to get the 'align to key object' function in affinity designer that we have now! Constant dripping wears the stone LOL
Thanks for the (somewhat patronising) mentioning of the search feature though... ;-)

    Hi guys,

I have recently switched my whole research group from using AI to using Affinity Designer. However, the thing that every single user heavily complained about, and that really limits the utility of AffinityDesigner for us, is the lack of an option to select a key or reference object that stays put during alignment and distribution operations.

This is very crucial for the preparation of scientific data plots where one really cannot have the data points shifting around when aligning them to their labels. It would also be very helpful for preparing multi-paneled figure etc.

Also, while at it, a 'select same color/stroke/fill/...' feature would be great, and the eyedropper tool could use some attention (eg. for text and vector objects)

Please make these available, and I will promise, that there will be a landslide of scientists moving away from their current overpriced rental software to using Affinity Designer

    Thanks

First of all, I find affinity designer awesome and I cannot wait to be able to completely switch from the bloated, overprice 'mud brick' rental packages. However for this to happen, I would need to have better vector graph alignment tools. In particular, I would need to be able to select a 'key object' that stays put while the other objects are aligned relative to the key object. Also, it would be great if one could select multiple nodes (inkl. a key node) and align them. The snapping function works great but sometimes it is just not enough...

Anything like this planned anytime soon?

    Thanks
