I doubt that the feeling Adobe has is nervousness. I would suspect they are watching and making plans, though.

It will take some years for APub to compete competently. And some time once APub is competitive for many creatives to switch. Even then it will take other factors to achieve market penetration that would make Adobe feel nervous.

Great preview. Based on what can be seen, Serif will continue its successful approach of making tools work consistently between all aplications, which is great. I hope they fix some things (visually adjusting tab stops comes to mind), and update them back in Designer / Photo as well.

Looks fine, here is a virtual one for AD and AF, which also has been assigned with just those shortcuts found on the Affinity PDF files. - However, having a reusable list/table with all possible shortcuts listed for categories is still something needed and useful too here (the way Adobe offers).

OH, I see.  There are two different threads going around about cheat sheets but they are different things.  I see that now.  Yours is an actual keyboard image and since you made and posted it,  Thanks for sharing!  Things like this are always very helpful.
The other thread with links to a cheat sheet has images of all the shortcuts from the back of the workbooks.  These are the ones I'm concerned. I don't want to pass around links unless I know it's okay to do so.  Thanks for clarifying this.

rubs reacted to MikeW in Variable Font
The specs for variable fonts are not set in stone yet, in that there are still axis tags being registered or in some stage of discussion prior to becomming a registered axis. And for some/many tags, even what a default setting should be isn't written in concrete yet.

There is limited desktop application, primarily being Adobe and browsers. Adobe's implementationt is a showcase of X number of axis in a variable font. It would be good for support in Affinity products, but one needs to recognize that over the course of a year or two (or more), the number of axis is going to grow and if rational issues are found, specs (mainly tables in the font I suspect) and or defaults for an axis may change/grow as well.

I create fonts and work on other's fonts. I wanna redo some into variable fonts. It means I may be able to sell fonts that were "dead" to new sales growth. So of course I desire wide application support. But that support really isn't there and likely will take some time before there is a widespread support. But I wouldn't say for an immature application such as AD that such support is or should be placed ahead of fixing bugs, adding drawing features and improving overall usability.

rubs reacted to retrograde in Copy & paste vector between this and other apps, Blend tool
It's a great way to line up or lay things out too, lines for instance where you can control the amount and the distance between each and if you reposition the objects that you're blending the whole thing updates in sync. I've used it to blend 2 different colours together in a series of steps to find a good "in between" colour, or to create a series of windows in a hi rise building you create one row of windows at bottom and top and blend it to the amount of floors you need... it goes on and on... a really powerful tool that does a lot of the heavy lifting in a designers toolkit.

In the attached images from my portfolio you can see lots of blends. The windows are blends of grouped shapes, the trellis and fence on the rooftop, the glass patio roof and even the flowers. The lines on the wallpaper and floorboards under the cat, the lines in the guys hair, and tons of uses on the train, boat, bridge and buildings...

    Hello,

I'm testing the app and let me say it's very promising.

One thing I'm missing now is the ability to copy & paste vector between this and other apps, like Fontlab, Glyphs and Illustrator. I can do this between these apps and it is very handy, me being a type designer and using more than one app at the same time.

Also a tool similar to Illustrator's Blend Tool would be nice, maybe extrapolation as an extra added :)

    Brilliant work, anyway!

    Best,
    Frank

rubs got a reaction from Uuiop in [AD] Multiple-page PDFs from the Export persona, how?
    Hi all,

I can't be sure I'm not missing something, but it seems that when exporting a multiple-artboard document via the Export persona I'll always get a single page giant PDF, while when using the Export dialog I always get a mutliple-page document (which is actually what I want). So... can I use the Export persona to get a multiple-page PDF at all?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Well, the exported PDF opens with the same errors in Chrome and Internet Explorer, but we definitely need confirmation from other users. Perhaps my Windows not being in English (pt-BR in my case) has something to do with the problem?

I don't have that installed but if it is in Acrobat and not in Nitro the problem may not be in designer. We are not there yet - let someone with acrobat test it and see what happens

Just rediscovered something which I thought had been fixed.
Draw a 10px line (curve) Duplicate the line, change it's colour and shorten it to reveal the line below. Group the two lines together Try to select the group by clicking directly on one of the lines.

rubs got a reaction from JohaWeber in Slice titles in Export persona misleading
Not sure if this is a new bug or if I failed to notice it before, but the slice titles may be misleading at times. For example, both PNG-24 and PNG-8 slice are named as such:
1280x800, "Artboard1", PNG, RGB 8-bit I understand it is actually 8 bits per RGB color, but "PNG-24" would make a lot more sense here. Don't you think?

We should have a text ruler in 1.7, with indents and tabstops.

Yes, working with tabs in AD is incredibly awkward and counter-intuitive. It's so time-consuming, I'm giving up. Even using separate columns of text instead of tabs is better. I wonder if you will consider adding a ruler like most sensible applications out there, since this is quite an obvious implementation (but it's not on your roadmap).
