The main differences is the DPI ans vonBusing mentions and how many of the elements are flattened, as well as things like transparency. Export and print set the dpi to document resolution for raster elements, web sets it to 72dpi. Flatten rasterises the entire document into a single image.  PDF X hav different standards as to what can be kept as vector and what has to be rasterised along with things like colour modes
 
It's these variations that attribute to the differing PDF file sizes

I was off by a little and a lot in my remembering. Bit of searching showed me that the problem was that the size of the artboard in Affinity Designer would scale up if the size was a fraction of a pixel off an integer value. Could you check your page size in pixels and trim that bit off? I only suggest this because of the oft mentioned "shared code base" between all three applications.

But, IMO a lot of users will be a little dissapointed. Or... maybe much more dissapointed... Why? Because of arrowheads and mesh tools. They where asked 1000s time more then node, pen, isometric... and other enhancements. And not a word about it, or anything else.

Uncle Mez - the Beta and Store versions are completely separate - deliberately. Brushes from one unfortunately cannot be automatically mirrored in the other. If you have previously used the Beta, created brushes in it and these have now disappeared, then we have a problem and could do with this bug reporting in a new thread
 
ALL - sorry that some of the long-standing requests aren’t here this time. Over the last development cycle I’ve been very busy writing the iPad version so I haven’t had chance to look at those issues- but now the iPad version has been written, I should be able to dedicate more time to those long-requested features

Do I have too many preconceptions about color blindness if I believe people in that case would meet quite some other bigger challenges using the affinity apps than just the icon color?
About changing icons: yes you can do that. But I’m quite sure that after the third beta update in one month that needs fiddling to restore the prefered icon, one will simply adopt the new icons anyway. That happened to me the last time they changed the icons.

I just tried and I don't get that. I applied both a Layer effect and an Adjustment on both a picture in a picture frame as well as an image i dropped directly on the document. The effects are applied all the way in the bleed.
Is this a bug introduced in the latest release? I'm still on 1.7.0.162 because the internal update mechanism will not get the current latest beta.
 

You can also get rid of just the text boxes by unticking Show Text Flow.

Chris, it was really not that difficult to solve the problem in Export to PDF without dazzling me with science.
 
All you needed to tell me was to change the Area dropdown to All Pages instead of All Spreads. The clue was in my description where I said that Publisher prints each page to A4 and that was what I was looking for. I knew that I had done this in the past in InDesign so I was sure that I could do it somehow in Publisher.
 
I think perhaps that All Pages would be a better default than All Spreads but maybe it was done this way to match InDesign. It is my suggestion that for the average numpty like me it may cause less confusion whilst black belt users, such as yourself, would know how to do this anyway.

what about an eye with a small star instead of the pupil as symbol for Preview Mode — I like the windshield wiper, but would prefer it for clearing changes and reverting tom original style settings or removing image filters perhaps?

Thank you very much for the information about Curve Text, I certainly was not aware that it existed and could not find any reference to it on the Affinity web site.
Experimenting with Text input the Area on the Left rejects both Artistic and Frame Text, although either can be dragged or otherwise manouvered onto it.
The Area on the Right accepts Artistic Text input, although ion the is case because it was copied and flipped through 180°, any input is upside down. It refuses to accept Frame Text directly into the area.
It exists and so should have a purpose but I do not have the time or need to discover aspects that seem undocumented, whilst remain happy to place Text, in standard closed areas, by the usual means.

Hello @AdamW as promised here is my impressions on this release of APub.
My experience in 12 steps :
1- APub .162 loads really faster than the previous builds which is better but i still think you can improve it even more.
2- I've loaded a project created with ADesigner weeks ago (business card project) and APub did the loading very fast even rendered the fonts, layers, blending, adjustment with ease and love
3- the pencil tool works well but I've found it lagging more than in previous version (here i did a test on empty project), please make smooth
4-  The use of the sculpt tool is still a bit of misery while i know it"s of a good help, please share us a best practice video tuto so we can understand it.
5- But i noticed this when i check show bleeds then export the project in any format you may want it comes with a large squared white zone that i couldn't understand, my fix was to disabled show the bleed and un-check export with bleed for it to disappear; maybe i'm doing something wrong but i still need to figure it out.
6- I like the fact that the pages studio is hidden from loading the software it makes it better to the eyes and gives me choice to show or hide it only when I want.
7- APub is still lacking of a dedicated Export persona/Assistant and i have to go to the menu which is a lot of clicks if i compare with ADesigner and APhoto which makes it 1 click closer
8- APub still have the Margins checked by default when creating a new documents and it's set to 25mm, it's annoying because i then have to do another step to either remove it or set another margin, please fix it by disabling the default 25mm.
9- To me, there is no need of Ellipse frame tool in the toolbox, the squared frame tool corners can be rounded from the top menu if set to 50% rounding its become a circle/ellipse so !
10- i really like the new tool that appears when placing an image into a picture frame, it's refined and works like a charm, very helpful; allow fast zooming
11- Picture frame tool is not yet content aware and main subject is not yet detectable when doing that which leaves it manual only, allow us to have it Auto subject fit then if we want to re-position or skip the subject then we can do it manually.
12- Now my best one, the snapping works much much much better, because i don't often use guides, snapping is actually what i rely on for perfect alignments.

There seems to be a small problem with updating section names within the Section Manager Window.
The Section Name changes only when hitting either the tab or the return key.
If you close the window with Close button nothing happens. It seems to me that the close button should register the change automatically.

I don't believe this is a realistic goal. Affinity Publisher is not aiming at getting EVERYONE to switch from Indesign. They are quite many low hanging fruits to focus on with people doing much simpler things, that could do with a simpler tool that get them all the way they need and in a more enjoyable way.
Nevertheless, data merge specifically, would be really useful.

If you use layer effects in Affinity apps, the actual area is rasterized on pdf export. This is a known issue since layer effects were introduced. Big improvements have been made with previous versions of Affinity apps to reduce object rasterization during pdf export, but this has not been addressed, what I know of. My best advice is to avoid them when vector-sharp output are expected. Many times there are other means to achieve the same effect that will not rasterize. Alternatively, you can also export at higher resolution for rasterized objects.

@Old Bruce: agreed that the solution of duplicating and then opening the file is a sloppy implementation. One can suspect that there are just two rows of AppleScript behind that Stationary checkbox. In that way, MS office makes it more elegant with a new unnamed document to be saved wherever is better.

I'm still on macOS Sierra and this is how APub and other apps behave.
This is also how MS office files have been working as long as I have been using them (but based on different file extensions). Double-click (from Finder) to create a new document based on the template; open from within program to edit the template.
