  1. This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are using the latest version on your platform. I will update/edit this post as new releases and betas are added. Product Name | Platform | Purchase Store | Version | Trial | Customer Beta ====================|================|=================|===========|=============|============== Affinity Designer | Windows 7,8,10 | Affinity Store | 1.6.5.123 | 1.6.5.123 | no beta Affinity Designer | Windows 10 | Microsoft Store | 1.6.5.123 | (as above) | no beta Affinity Designer | Mac OS | Mac App Store | 1.6.1 | 1.6.0 | no beta Affinity Designer | Mac OS | Affinity Store | 1.6.3 PK | n/a | no beta Affinity Designer | iOS 11 | iPad Store | 1.6.2 | not posible | no beta Affinity Photo | Windows 7,8,10 | Affinity Store | 1.6.5.123 | 1.6.5.123 | no beta Affinity Photo | Windows 10 | Microsoft Store | 1.6.5.123 | (as above) | no beta Affinity Photo | Mac OS | Mac App Store | 1.6.7 | 1.6.6 | no beta Affinity Photo | Mac OS | Affinity Store | 1.6.9 PK | n/a | no beta Affinity Photo | iOS 11 | iPad Store | 1.6.9 | not posible | no beta Release notes Affinity Designer Windows 1.6.5 (previous 1.6.x releases: 1.6.4, 1.6.3, 1.6.2, 1.6.1, 1.6.0 ) Affinity Designer Mac OS 1.6.1 (& 1.6.3 pk) (previous 1.6.x releases: 1.6.0 ) Affinity Photo Windows 1.6.5 (previous 1.6.x releases: 1.6.4, 1.6.3, 1.6.2, 1.6.1, 1.6.0 ) Affinity Photo Mac OS 1.6.7 (& 1.6.9 pk) (previous 1.6.x releases: 1.6.6 ) Affinity Photo iOS 1.6.9 (previous 1.6.x releases: 1.6.8, 1.6.7, 1.6.5, 1.6.4, 1.6.3, 1.6.2, 1.6.1 ) Affinity Designer iOS 1.6.2 (previous 1.6.x releases 1.6.1, 1.6.0 ) Affinity Version Numbering Windows build numbers and Mac builds are independent. The third number increases each time a public release is made, so Windows and Mac builds have simply been released a different number of times (sometimes to fix OS specific problems) Affinity Designer Windows 1.6 has had 6 public versions 1.6.0, 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.3 (very briefly), 1.6.4 & 1.6.5 Affinity Designer Mac 1.6 has had 3 public versions 1.6.0, 1.6.1 (and 1.6.2 PK & 1.6.3 PK on the Affinity Store for corp/direct sales and redemption code customers) Affinity Photo Windows 1.6 has had 5 public versions 1.6.0, 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.3 (very briefly), 1.6.4 & 1.6.5 Affinity Photo Mac 1.6 has had 3 public versions 1.6.6, 1.6.7 (and 1.6.8 PK & 1.6.9 PK on the Affinity Store for corp/direct sales and redemption code customers) Affinity Photo for iPad has had 8 public releases 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.3, 1.6.4, 1.6.5, 1.6.7, 1.6.8 & 1.6.9 Affinity Designer for iPad has had 3 public releases 1.6.0, 1.6.1 & 1.6.2, but is based on the latest released codebase (technically ahead of all other 1.6 releases). [Please note that Microsoft Store presents the build number slightly differently so 1.6.5.123 can also appear as a store update as 10605.123.0.0] Windows Photo 1.6.5 is approximately the same codebase as Mac Photo 1.6.7. They were released quite closely and share 97% the same features and shared fixes, and obviously each also has OS specific fixes. [see release notes section above] Windows Designer 1.6.5 is approximately the same codebase as Mac Designer 1.6.1. They were released quite closely and share 97% the same features and shared fixes, and obviously each also has OS specific fixes. [see release notes section above] So Windows and Mac version numbers differing simply means the number of versions released are different. Installation of Software and Updates Paid software downloaded from the Affinity Store requires a product key and email pair to use. New versions are notified within the application when it is first run and updates are done manually by installing the new version over the old. (Only the Mac versions from the Affinity Store needs manually uninstalling first, all other versions will install over the top of the old one) Software downloaded from the Mac App Store, Microsoft Store and iPad store do not require a key and are updated through the relevant store. This is not always simultaneous around the world and updates are often rolled progressively by the store out so if you cannot see an update once announced here, don't worry or make a support ticket, just check back as they will normally appear for all users within 24 hours of first release.
  2. Guys. Linux is the future. You may not see it at the moment, but you are trusting Apple way too much. What if your golden ecosystem breaks down? The thing is that I know lots of people who would be willing to purchase this software for even more than the original price if it was available for Linux. The Linux community is not cheap. If there is a quality product that is worth it, we're gonna buy it. And I'm pretty convinced Affinity is. When I read about it, I was super excited because as a young alternative to Illustrator, Sketch and Vectormator, there would be a chance of Affinity being more modern and also supporting other Unices than only Mac OS. See, the world of Unix is so unbelievably huge, yet you are concentrating on such a tiny subset of it. The programming effort is tiny, many Unix programs are portable between systems without any modifications. Since Mac OS is practically a BSD-Rip-off, the programming effort of porting Affinity to Linux is tinytinytiny And you could be one of the first innovative companies offering a consumer-application for Linux, which would probably not only make huge waves in the Linux community itself, but also the whole industry, which will also gain you lots and lots of customers. Unless you were dumb enough to use native Apple-APIs of course. Then you're f****d. In that case I would advise switching as soon as possible, as painful as it might be. It will save you lots and lots of problems and lots of future pain. I can only advise you to look into Qt, which is by the way also cross-platform-compatible. Yes, I'm even talking about Windows.
  3. Please get some of your developers/designers/testers 5k iMacs to test with. I'm sure the UI works well with a laptop/notebook sized screen but as far as I'm concerned it's unuseable on my iMac. I am 54 years of age and wear glasses but I work with loads of other apps on my iMac with no problem. I'm not asking you to change your UI - just to add the option to scale it up. I know you have some preferences to scale things up but none of them get anywhere near making the UI useable for me. I love your apps, I love your company, I just can't work with the miniscule icons and text. :)
  4. Dear Affinity Team Is there any chance for Polish translation of your (our) excellent software? Sincerly yours Olaf from Warsaw, Poland
  5. Hi, lets put the things this way: We create new folders (and additional, if needed) for every new customer. In these folders we put every vector, bitmap files we need for the current job. When we open the main file, all other used files from the subfolders are loaded into that file. So, could it be done the fonts, we put in the main folder, to be temporarily instaled and loaded while we work on our design?
  6. I'm testing Affinity Designer for the first time and I really like the ease of making complex shapes. I've never been much into Illustrator before, so Affinity is just what I need! I'm looking at the list of export formats and I couldn't find TGA. Don't know whether to think that's strange or not, but for game engines, TGA seem to be used more than I knew before. At the game design school I graduated from, we were encouraged to use TGA for UI elements. I thought that was strange to begin with, but I stuck to it. Now I'm modding a game, and the game wants TGA. It becomes a bit of a hassle to export to something else first and then convert to TGA. Is TGA of any interest for you to support ? I know I'd be super happy, and could make faster iterations with the automated export. Simply make a change in a slice, it exports on the fly, go into Unreal Engine and refresh the asset - bang! Done!

Aero requirement to run the Software We require Desktop Windows Management Composition, rather than native Graphics drivers. This is natively on for Windows 8 and 10, but on Windows 7 this is most easily achieved by turning Aero ON. If you are not willing to turn the Aero theme on there is a work around described in this post, but any issues when running the software won't be logged unless they've been verified as still occurring with DWM Composition enabled. 8. Hi, I use Affinity Photo iPad, how can get the "Luminance brush"?
  9. Hey guys will it be possible in the near future to change the color of the guide lines? This will help a lot at work. :)
  10. I've noticed that while drawing a selection with the marquee tool coming from PS I was expecting modifier keys to work, such as holding Space to move selection while drawing, holding Alt for center to bounds drawing. Also missing were cursor cues to the action, whereas the cursor never shows a plus sign if adding or minus if subtracting, x for intersection, etc. Are these features planned? On a side note, the software as is is quite impressive, the native filetype crunched an 80mb PSD file to 17 while retaining quality. I mainly do comic book coloring with PS and most features are there, save perhaps a few like processing grayscale to bitmap for the line art, but it looks like I could migrate. The UI is snappy, we like it.
  11. Hello, I would like to ask if it is foreseen to translate the Affinity Photo to other languages. I'm especially interested in Czech language. I have no trouble in using English at all but there are older generations of photographers that would love to have the Affinity translated. If there is no plan to do that, is there a simple way for me how can I do that? Thank you for your answer in advance. Jakub
  12. Where do I get support? The best place for asking questions, reporting bugs and requesting features is right here on our forum – this is where we all hang out: · Questions · Report a Bug on Mac, Report a bug on Windows and Report a Bug on iPad. · Make a feature suggestion What are the system requirements? OS X Lion (10.7.5) or above for Mac and Windows 7 (SP1) and above for MS Windows – but you can see the full spec for Affinity Designer here and for Affinity Photo here. Is it available to buy for Windows? Affinity Designer for Windows is available to here, and Affinity Photo for Windows is available to buy here and both are also on the Windows Store here. We’ll be supporting 64-bit editions of Windows 7 (SP1), 8.1, and 10. If you have bought any Affinity apps for the Mac, you will need to purchase additional licenses for other platforms. Are there trial versions available? Yes, there are free 10-day trials for Mac and Windows available on our site, with Affinity Photo at affinity.serif.com/photo/trial and Affinity Designer at affinity.serif.com/designer/trial. I've used my trial, can I have another? No, unfortunately not. The trials need to be secure to prevent abuse, so even though your wish is for an honest evaluation we cannot circumvent the trial checking built in to the app. If you installed a trial of Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer before, you can only use a future trial when it is updated to reflect new features (1.5, 1.6, 1.7 etc). The customer beta versions of Affinity apps do not offer an additional trial period. There is more on trials in this thread. Is there a roadmap of future features available? Yes – the current Affinity Designer roadmap is here and the Affinity Photo roadmap is here. Note all the features listed here will be made available in free 1.X updates. What is Affinity Photo Plugin support like? We are currently working with some plug-in manufacturers to make their plug-ins fully compatible with Affinity Photo. We will keep you updated on our progress. We would also love to know which plug-ins you would like to see made compatible with Affinity Photo. When is Affinity Publisher launching? We will only release Publisher when we are happy with it and will of course keep you updated on this. Do you plan to have Web site design/Digital Asset Management/animation/video editing products too? We’re not sure yet! but we are very interested in adding a DAM solution to the Affinity suite in future. Do you plan to produce apps for iPad? Affinity Photo for iPad is available from the iOS App Store here. Do you have any tutorials or handbook available? We have the Designer Workbook available to purchase here and the Photo Workbook here. We also have a comprehensive set of video tutorials, you can find our growing collection here. Are Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo available in any languages other than English? Yes, each apps already includes English (US and UK), German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Japanese, Russian, and Chinese (Simplified). Language is chosen for you automatically and you can also change it in Preferences > General. How does the pricing work in different countries? We set the price in USD for sale within the USA, and from there the price shown in other countries and currencies is set by Apple based on a matrix they use. We have no control over that matrix or any updates Apple may make to it in the future. Our Affinity Store matches these prices for Windows to make the sale price the same. Are Affinity Windows apps available to buy outside of the Affinity Store? Yes, Affinity Designer for Windows and Affinity Photo for Windows are available on the Serif Affinity Store and also the Windows Store. Are Affinity Mac apps available to buy outside of the Mac App Store? No, Affinity Designer for Mac and Affinity Photo for Mac are exclusive to the Mac App Store. This also applies to educational and other volume license sales—Apple operate volume purchase programs for organisations to reduce costs and simplify distribution and management, which you can find our more about for business here and for education here. Is there anywhere I can download a cheat sheet showing the shortcuts for Affinity apps? Yes there is! You can download a full list of default shortcuts for the Affinity apps in this Affinity Spotlight article (where you will find printable PDFs and also the Affinity Designer source files for English and German keyboards in case you want to include your own customized shortcuts). Can I use the Affinity logo and name for my website/channel/product/service? We really appreciate and encourage activities that support Affinity software so we're pretty fair about trademark usage, but naturally there are limitations. We want Affinity users to be confident about what content is created by Affinity and what is created by third parties, our guidelines in this short PDF (English only) make things quite clear.
  13. Can we consider a File > Close All menu option for the future, particularly for Photo I often have multiple files open and need a quick way to close them all
  14. This article relates to purchases direct from our own store https://affinity.store We license Affinity Software for iPad and Mac OS through their respective App stores, independently of Windows and the license is not transferable and needs to be bought for each independent OS (Windows/Mac/iOS) you wish to use it on. If you have a query regarding a placed order, that query should not be dealt with in a public forum like this, as we do not recommend sharing personal details like email address in public posts. Here are some solutions to common problems Where is the Designer 1.5 Launch offer Free Content? If you ordered Affinity Designer for Windows software during the launch offer, you should have received 3 emails 1 of 3 Welcome to Affinity (for Account Creation) 2 of 3 Affinity order confirmation - AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order or Workbook order) 3 of 3 Affinity Product Key - Order AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order) In the one titled "Affinity order confirmation - AXXXXXXXXX" you will find 2 buttons one to download the software and one called "Get the freebies" that links to the Grade-UI kit etc. You will not find this link in your online Affinity store account, only in the order confirmation email. Order emails have not arrived If you have ordered/paid for software on the Affinity store, you should have received 3 emails 1 of 3 Welcome to Affinity (for Account Creation) 2 of 3 Affinity order confirmation - AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order or Workbook order) 3 of 3 Affinity Product Key - Order AXXXXXXXXX (for a Software Order) If you did not get these (and they are not in your spam folder) then you will probably need our assistance to resolve this. As you have paid for the software we will locate your account and either refund the payment or if the email was typed in incorrectly, change the email address over to the corrected one. To get us to start this process, please email affinity@serif.com with your name, email address used on the order and how you paid and tell us what you bought (and when). We will do our best to find your account. and once found, we can tell you how to proceed. If it was an error in the email address used to create the account we will tell you what address it was created with and you can follow the next set of instructions in this post. Incorrect Email Address (but you know what you typed wrong) If you have ordered/paid for software, but accidentally used an incorrect email address on your account, then you should login to the account using the wrong email address (if you know what you typed and the password for the account) and change the email address to the corrected one. Your account will from that point onwards use the new email address for logging in. Changing Account Email Address If you wish to change the address used for your Serif Account then you may. All previous Affinity software product keys generated using the original address will remain unchanged. You should always install the software with the email address and product key pair as they were when you placed the order, and as they appear in your account order downloads page. Returns and refunds If you are not satisfied with your product for any reason, you may return it within a 14 day period after receipt of your product to receive a full refund to affinityreturns@serif.com . See the returns section of our help and support page for more details. How do I obtain a VAT receipt? See the Billing section of our help and support page for more details. Licensing Digital Software orders made from the Affinity Store can be installed by one user on any number of Windows PCs that are for the sole use of one person, OR on one computer for any number of users on it. The legal wording is replicated in the Digital Orders section in the store help guide.
  15. How are we going to get updates? I can't see any menu option, like "Check for updates".
  16. Linking an image instead of embedding it, would be useful if you're working on different documents with the same file, i.e. a logo in a design phase. So if you change that logo it will be respected in every file it is linked. Besides that it doesn't increase your Designer file, that could be crucial if you're working with large files and make a lot of versions / copies of your Designer file. I think it's like the new version of the Photoshop Smartobjects (CC version). Would be great if this makes sense to you too and isn't too hard to implement. Thanks!
  17. I think that 25+ years of experience with DTP apps like PageMaker, FrameMaker, QuarkXPress, InDesign and DOA (Design Oriented Apps) like FreeHand, CorelDRAW, Illustrator, Xara, Photoshop, give me room to say my opinion about Publisher, Designer and Photo. And this is: Publisher should be free of DOA features. All these years I never ever used these kind of features in DTP apps. I always like everthing clean: DTP for finalizing/merging text with design and DOA for design. If you develop separate DOA you don’t need it’s tools in DTP app and vice versa. Quark needs it, but Publisher does not. Publisher file format should not be open in Designer or Photo. Could you open ID files in AI or PS? No? Why? Because it is not supposed to work that way. But opposite is quite OK. It must, which is normal. DTP features must be removed from DOA. Artboards are OK. But pages, text chain, character and paragraph styles... No. Local character and paragraph formating and text effects (warp text effects like in Photoshop?!) is OK. Text effects in PS instead in AI? Video editing in PS? Character and paragraph formating in AI and PS? Adobe totally lost it’s compass. Publisher and Designer. Only 2 apps instead of 3. Designer and Photo must be merged into one app because they share the same purpose, a lot of code and recently -- same bug fixes. It will be also a war against bloatware. As separate apps their instalation size is 500+ Mb and if they are merged I suppose it will be cca 300 Mb or less. Not to mention how much space they take on HD when installed. If you need ideas for another apps then you can make your own Math equation and Chemistry formulae editor(s) and a Music score app.
  18. Hi there, I'd like to see a lighter/brighter mode for the whole UI. Sometimes it's much better to work in a lighter/brighter UI as in a dark mode (which I also like much!). I think your UI is a lil bit to dark. I like more the dark-look of the native Apple Pro Apps. It feels a lil bit better :)
  19. I need it, quick. Took about 15 minutes of research and couldnt find a download
  20. The more I use this software the more I like it!! :D One silly thing - you can create multiple art boards but you can only print them one by one? The PDF workaround is ok but.... I can see how printing all art boards to one page would work for very small illustration comps but not for simply printing out A4 or letter size concepts to present.
  21. I am experiencing a lot of lag in both Designer and Photo. My main machine is running Windows 10 on an i7 3770K, 16GB of RAM and an AMD 390X OC with 8GB VRAM. When comparing things like rotate, curve adjustment, scaling, perspective filter, etc. with Photoshop or Illustrator, I noticed a huge CPU spike on affinity to 100% together with some lagging fragments (squares in the selection that arent updated yet to the new configuration) while photoshop and illustrator could pull it off with smoother framerates as well as less CPU usage. It's like my 390X isn't used a lot in Affinity. This is really breaks my workflow when I am working with multiple layers or bigger documents and I can't work precise anymore. I wonder if I am the only one that notices this? Is there something wrong with my pc build or software configuration or is this just how Affinity is supposed to be working?
  22. I think I'd be cool to have the welcome window show a list of recently opened/created documents the same way Xcode does when you open the app.
  23. This is the sort of question to which I feel I ought to know the answer but... My monitor is an LG E2551, which is colour-profiled using an X-rite ColorMunki Display, permanently connected via USB, obviously, which monitors ambient light as well as requiring/requesting me to re-profile the colour output of said monitor once per month, which I do. So, I think the colours seen on screen should be "correct"? Using both AD and AP on Windows 10 I'm very uncertain about which colour profile I should choose in Edit>Preferences>Colour. Should I select for the 16-bit and 32-bit Colour Profiles the latest one created for the monitor, or should I simply use the defaults, or even, one of the several available created for my Epson Stylus Photo P50 printer? I'm simply attempting to be able to produce print-outs from both AD and AP that are as "close as possible" in colour to what I see on screen. Yes, I do understand the screen is RGB and any print-out is CMYK and hence "exact" colour matching is impossible, but I would like to get the two to be as close as possible! Many thanks for any advice offered. Jeff
  24. Affinity Designer and Photo for Windows do not currently include the ability to scan documents within applications. I understand scanning is an issue with Affinity Designer and Photo under Windows, as some scanner manufacturers only provide 32-bit, not 64-bit driver support. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/32310-aquiring-photos-from-scanners/?p=156987 However, some scanner manufacturers do provide 64-bit scanner drivers. Until there is a solution within Affinity products to provide 32-bit scanner driver support (if such a solution will be developed)... PLEASE provide 64-bit scanner support. For several years now Windows operating systems have been primarily 64-bit, as 32-bit operating systems cannot address more than between 3.5Gb to 4Gb of RAM. Most systems (especially systems for graphic design and similar) come pre-installed with more then 4 Gb RAM, requiring a 64-bit OS. Though some/many scanner manufacturers are not keeping up with the need for 64-bit scanner drivers, the need is firmly established, and will only grow, and become a hard requirement for those purchasing scanners. If only 64-bit scanner driver support is incorporated into Affinity Designer and Photo, that would provide Affinity software users the ability to scan within the applications, with provided 64-bit drivers. With newer scanners, users have a strong argument for scanner manufacturers to provide 64-bit drivers. With new scanners, users can return their scanner in favor of scanners providing the needed 64-bit drivers. The problem is: Microsoft Windows does not include the ability to use both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers for both 32-bit and 64-bit applications (i.e. a level of abstraction in the scanner subsystem); All scanner manufacturers are not providing 64-bit Windows drivers; Affinity Windows applications do not provide any scanner driver support. Supporting 64-bit scanner drivers for Windows Affinity applications provides a solution for Affinity application users and shifts the problem/blame to Microsoft and scanner manufacturers.
