  1. Hello! I find my situation ironic, as I dealt with all my US English text being underlined because it wasn't UK English for the longest time, and now that I need UK English checks, it simply won't come up in AP. I am attaching multiple screenshots here, as I'm at my wit's end as to why I cannot get UK English to show up as a spell check option. First, I checked my system languages, realized English (UK) wasn't listed there under 'Preferred languages', added it, and restarted my computer. However, it doesn't matter if I go into the Text Style panel, the AP preferences itself, or the character panel, no where does English (UK) show up as a language option. But it does show up under the Hyphenation panel. My mind is blown. I don't see how it would affect anything, but I added the British keyboard layout to my system preferences, and restarted my computer once again. I'm getting the same results. English (UK) doesn't show up as an option for spelling. There is, however, a en-GB folder in the AP Resources folder. What do I do to get English (UK) to show up as a spellcheck/language option? Do I dare copy the en-GB data file elsewhere, delete it from the AP folder, then drag and drop in an attempt to 'reinstall'? Will this break anything? I cannot think of anything else to do. Help! I am on Mac OS 10.15.5 / AP 1.8.4
  2. I used the new brushes and texture overlays I made to promote my new quick-start kits on my Gumroad store. This was the result! I teach English, and only get to draw in my free time. I'm still working up the courage and energy to do a complete dragon illustration. Will post here when I do! - Cheers!
  3. What to do on a boring rainy weekend? I thought I would try and get some more milage out of the UFO pictured in "Contact" and revisit "Close encounter" by adding oodles of detail to the Conny. The Conny herself is from a picture I took of the Breitling Conny at her base in Basel. I think it turned out well.
  4. Below is my list of written tutorials I have done over the years. The first few were done using early versions of Affinity programs but they should still be ok. Some menus may have changed or tools look different but the basics are the same. Also most are for Affinity Photo, but some could be done in Designer. Plus the "Beginners Look at Affinity Photo" ones will pretty much be the same in Affinity Designer and Publisher as all 3 programs have same basic functions. PhotoPlus and Affinity Photo – make a fake Starry Sky background https://www.dropbox.com/s/3la5z4amc11wcgx/starry-Sky-PhotoPlus_and_Affinity_Photo.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – Silk Embroidery Effect https://www.dropbox.com/s/9h4mpso7i77z1oq/Affinity%20Photo%20-%20Silk%20Embroidery%20Effect.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – Silk Embroidery Effect V2 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6usbza25vidgmck/Embroidery%20Tutorial%20v2.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – Vintage Cabinet Frames https://www.dropbox.com/s/bj2dsmwmy0juazk/cabinet-frames.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – Fake Evening Sky with Rain and Lightening https://www.dropbox.com/s/mlcdnducotitp1d/Fake_Evening_-_Lightning_-_Rain_-_Affinity_Photo.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo - Art Projects Shows 2 ways to make a blank canvas on an easel have what might be a painted image on it, from a photograph. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8fx18c77t2dnulb/Art-Projects-sept2018.pdf?dl=0 Infrared V2 – Affinity Photo 3 ways to make fake Infrared images I Needed a project to use in the Affinity Publisher beta, so I thought I’d update an old Serif PhotoPlus tutorial to an Affinity Photo tutorial. It basically shows 3 methods to get Infrared style images. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0c0mgqfrbrdv4q5/Affinity%20Tutorial%20-%20Infrared-v2.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – Convert German Video – Film Strip Image in 3 parts pt 1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/iewleyt95a8qhdk/Photo_Film_Strip_-_German_Tutorial_pt1.pdf?dl=0 pt 2 https://www.dropbox.com/s/2j35gkvxr9emcq6/Photo_Film_Strip_-_German_Tutorial_pt2.pdf?dl=0 pt 3 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6yvxubgne0kqct4/Photo_Film_Strip_-_German_Tutorial_pt3.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – False Water and Reflection https://www.dropbox.com/s/4sm0qqikvp0hs0a/affinity-photo-false_water_and_reflection.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – Chinese Painting Styles in 2 parts pt 1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/uvqn9hf9mo2xwbr/Chinese_Painting_-Pt_01-_affinity-photo.pdf?dl=0 pt 2 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ovc317ncjjosd0/Chinese_Painting_-Pt_02-_affinity-photo.pdf?dl=0 Affinity Photo – Beginners Look at Layer Masks https://www.dropbox.com/s/c0lsf9e7kdymdyd/A-Photo-%20Beginners%20Look%20At%20Layer%20Masks.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 1 – Better Cloning https://www.dropbox.com/s/a1d283mn7icltzc/ACTIV8-issue1-BetterCloning.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 2 – Spheres https://www.dropbox.com/s/igufcf3unu4z84b/ACTIV8-issue2-spheres.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 3 – Affinity Photo - Select Tree - Replace Sky – 2 ways https://www.dropbox.com/s/lx0ko7f2xjqsg3r/ACTIV8-issue3-replacesky.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 4 – Tri-Fold Image https://www.dropbox.com/s/1iyp59mr3bzjlri/ACTIV8-issue4-TriFold-image.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 5 – Emboss With Lighting https://www.dropbox.com/s/t5r6tiz3c7k7o1s/ACTIV8-issue5-emboss-with-light.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 6 – 3D Text https://www.dropbox.com/s/gif1x6xrtfrp2z8/ACTIV8-issue6-Three-D-Text.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 7 -Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher – A look at Styles This written tutorial, mainly aimed at beginners of any of the Affinity Software made for PC and Mac. It may work the same on iPad version but I don’t own one so can’t confirm that it will. It looks at what Styles are, how to make some Gradient Styles and some Styles made from images. Then how to Export and Import your newly made Styles. After that I do a basic overview of a couple of video tutorials I have made in the past. Using the Mirror Filter and the Equation filter to make new images, to then make Styles from. Lastly, another overview of a recent video tutorial, which looks at using the Vector Crop Tool in Affinity Designer to grab sections of an image to then make Styles from. The end of this PDF tutorial has interactive links to all the video tutorials and links to the downloads of all the Styles I have made in these video and written tutorials. https://www.dropbox.com/s/82szaatnflaw8fk/ACTIV8-issue7-Styles.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 8 – Affinity Photo – Make Sketch Image With Just The Channel Mixer A while ago I made an Affinity Photo video tutorial about making a sketch image just using the Channel Mixer adjustment. I thought I’d up-date it slightly in this written tutorial, which can be done in Affinity Photo, Designer or Publisher. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6etmt3am6ljprwn/ACTIV8-issue7-ChannelMixer-Sketch.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 8a – Affinity Software – 4 Creative yet simple ways to use Blend Modes This is a written tutorial update of a video tutorial I did in Feb 2018. They are fairly basic edits and will work best with an image that has a white background. So, I will use one I got from Pixabay, as are the other images used. Links to the video and image are in the written tutorial. The video was done in Affinity Photo but this will be done in Affinity Designer but I see no reason why it can’t also be done in Publisher. https://www.dropbox.com/s/sluebvjl86nuk8e/ACTIV8-issue8-Four-Uses-for-Blend-Modes.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 9 – A Beginners Look At Affinity Photo part 1 Looking at opening images and saving your edits. Plus, file formats also a look at the Layers Panel and Colour selection Although tutorial is for Affinity Photo all will work pretty much the same in Affinity Designer And Publisher https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ztaxn4siom7evd/ACTIV8-issue9-Beginners%20Look%20at%20Affinity%20Photo%20pt01.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 10 – A Beginners Look At Affinity Photo part 2 Looking at opening and setting up a new document other than an image. The Brush Tool and changing the Brush Tips. Then looking at the different types of Pixel and Vector layers you can make. Layer Masks and their use. Plus, a quick look at Text and Shape layers and the Glyph Browser. As with part 1, most (if not all) of the information in this tutorial will work just as well in Affinity Designer and Publisher as all 3 programs are so similar. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kourodnfojwq26l/ACTIV8-issue10-Beginners%20Look%20at%20Affinity%20Photo-pt02.pdf?dl=0
  5. Meant to post this for a while. Affinity can do the whole project. Not just images but accurate box design, books, layouts...the whole package. Exporting output across the globe for accurate printing in any size and colour is a must. Everything in this picture was designed and manufactured using Affinity Designer and Photo. It's not just a package...it's a design suite. When a container load of product arrives at your clients warehouse...it better be 100% right. I not only use Affinity...I trust it. Thanks Serif!
  6. Hello! My name is Mikołaj but you can call me Mik. I've been using affinity software since first release in 2014 for graphic design(any kind of user interface design and visual identity assets). Lately some idea popped in my head – I am using the same tools in the same way all the time, so to prevent some kind of stagnation I want to challenge myself to create different kind of artwork that I usually do. Goal: Creating artwork from scratch in a poster format using every tool that is available in the software. I invite you to enjoy this journey with me. 001
  7. Kriegsmarine U-Boats, UFO´s and ice, always a great topic for artwork. This is scratch built in Affinty Design and Affintiy Photo, a lot of late hours and psychedelic stoner music on the tube.
  8. I started producing this mag some years ago in Page plus then progressed to Scribus, Xara and now to Affinity. it is published on line and is free to view. SEW is a region of the embroiderers guild which is a charity. This is my first attempt with Affinity. It took me a while to get the hang of the persona and I still have a lot to learn but I found it very intuitive and and the design programme easy to use. The magazine is 246 pages with an appendix of 119. it is on our web site http://sewregionmagazin.com
  9. In Windows there are some apps that will load on whichever monitor the mouse is sitting on. So you can click to launch an app and then quickly move the mouse to the monitor on which you want the app to appear. Handbrake and AviDemux are a couple of examples. Affinity Apps don't do this. They load on the last monitor they were used. Can we get a setting to load the app on the same monitor the mouse is on?
  10. I wrote such a mega long process post about my adventures developing kinetic infographics that I broke it into two parts: 1. https://saamvisual.com/process/2020/6/13/kinetic-infographics1-learnfromnotape 2. https://saamvisual.com/process/2020/6/13/kinetic-infographics2-enhancingmotion I hope some of this is useful. Affinity was present throughout.
  11. In my fantasy the Broadsword is a plane built to specifications of the Royal Flying Corps for an allweather fighterbomber. There are the traits of five aircraft in the Broadsword, see if you can find them all. It´s also a test if the Perlin noise can replace PS´s difference clouds... Why yes it can, and then some. The clouds and the Broadsword´s cammo for instance is pure perlin noise.
  12. I'm testing Affinity Designer for the first time and I really like the ease of making complex shapes. I've never been much into Illustrator before, so Affinity is just what I need! I'm looking at the list of export formats and I couldn't find TGA. Don't know whether to think that's strange or not, but for game engines, TGA seem to be used more than I knew before. At the game design school I graduated from, we were encouraged to use TGA for UI elements. I thought that was strange to begin with, but I stuck to it. Now I'm modding a game, and the game wants TGA. It becomes a bit of a hassle to export to something else first and then convert to TGA. Is TGA of any interest for you to support ? I know I'd be super happy, and could make faster iterations with the automated export. Simply make a change in a slice, it exports on the fly, go into Unreal Engine and refresh the asset - bang! Done!
  13. Here is a more general version of a visual shortcuts explorer for Affinity Tools, which can show up both, the Affinity Designer + Photo keyboard shortcuts for Win/Mac (in English or German language), on different choosable localized keyboard layouts. AffinityShortcutMapper.zip To use it, extract the compressed archive and navigate into the "/AffinityShortcutMapper" folder, there open the HTML page index.html locally in your default or prefered web browser and start exploring the various shortcuts! Note: for the Chrome web browser you might try instead to locally launch Chrome the below shown way (due to it's default security settings) in order to allow file:// protocol access for it ... > "C:\PathTo\Chrome.exe" --allow-file-access-from-files See also this related posting.
  14. Poor old Bob. He’s taking his comedy tour on the road but doesn’t know where he’s going. Two posters, both experimental ideas along the same lines, just for a bit of fun. Done in Designer and Photo (probably could have been done in either alone). The main image – which I (quickly) isolated from its background – can be found here: https://gratisography.com/photo/crazy-eyes/

  16. Hi, I'm pleased to announce that I reinitiated a former activity of mine — training people to learn or improve a visual skill, 2D and/or 3D. Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo are the 2D editors I'm using in my workshops. A training takes place in the Netherlands, in my studio or on location, so it will be mostly interesting for Dutch and Flemish people. More info can be found on my site: metinseven.com Regards, — Metin

  18. I've noticed that while drawing a selection with the marquee tool coming from PS I was expecting modifier keys to work, such as holding Space to move selection while drawing, holding Alt for center to bounds drawing. Also missing were cursor cues to the action, whereas the cursor never shows a plus sign if adding or minus if subtracting, x for intersection, etc. Are these features planned? On a side note, the software as is is quite impressive, the native filetype crunched an 80mb PSD file to 17 while retaining quality. I mainly do comic book coloring with PS and most features are there, save perhaps a few like processing grayscale to bitmap for the line art, but it looks like I could migrate. The UI is snappy, we like it.
  19. Hello everyone, Back with another illustration. Similar to “Light houses” this one is also a mixture of vector illustration with photography. The main vector objects (the monsters/creatures) where made in Affinity Designer then moved into Affinity Photo where I started with the background, removing all the people, followed by removing any text on the signs and labels around the train and replace it with my own text (a bit over kill since there kinda small to read and most people will never see it but was still fun to do) followed by placing the vector objects in, colour correcting the scene and adding shadows and other textuers such as dust and lens scratches. Overall the project was fun to mess around with and I’m happy with how it came out. Made with Affintiy Photo + Affinity Designer and made on the iPad Pro. Main image: Close Up: How it was made: Thank you for your time, Andrew.
  20. Symbols for Disasters Hi In https://www.unicode.org/L2/L-curdoc.htm I saw some time ago the following. https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2020/20078-n4710-liaison-stmt.pdf Today I have just seen the following. https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2020/20136-sc2-response.pdf Well, no money in it, but if people want to have a go in this thread debating design and posting designs produced using Affinity products, maybe something good might posssibly come of it. This post is just on my own initiative, as a forum member. I declare an interest in that communication through the language barrier is my personal research interest in retirement and I have included some idea about seeking information about relatives and friends after a disaster in my research. http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~ngo/localizable_sentences_research.htm http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~ngo/localizable_sentences_the_novel_chapter_042.pdf http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~ngo/locse027.pdf But that is not the same thing as this, but I want to be open about it as it is in the same sort of area. 21. My first ever digital scrapbooking pages were done using Serif Pageplus, and then I moved into Serif's Scrapbooking Software which evolved inot Craft Artist. My children and I have been using Craft Artist for years. However it's crashing and freezing a lot, with the problems getting worse with successive Windows 10 updates. So I decided to try out the Affinity free Trail in April. This is my journey learning to scrapbook in Affinity so far: First go - using Affinity Photo. Scrapbooking with Affinity Photo is much more clunky than using Craft Artist, and took at least twice as long. The text tools are too basic for my needs. On a plus note, the psd template imported well. My page created in Affinity Photo using a psd scrapbooking template. https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/royal-memories.431453/ Second go - using Affinity Publisher Scrapbooking with Affinity Publisher is fairly straight forward and is done in a similar way as with Craft Artist. The text tool power is stronger than Craft Artist's, but it can't edit or create graphics. However, it can borrow functionality from Affinity Photo and Designer to accomplish that stuff, which is why I'm looking at the complete suite. This page is done in Publisher using the "Photo Persona" to edit the colours in some of the elements. https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/psalm-24.431470/ Using Designer to create a template I used Affinity Designer to create a template for this page with intersecting shapes. I had a go at text on a path too. https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/spring.431552/ Drawing & Painting I've been testing out the drawing and painting tools today, and drew and painted the balloon on this art journaling page https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/balloon.431571/ Using a ready made Photo Mask Today's task for Affinity is masking - seems to work fine. I'm still getting the hang of basic drop shadows. The parameters used in the dialog box are different to those used in Craft Artist. Not worked out how to do fancy shadows yet https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/free-food.431614/ How about a 2 pager? My first go at attempting a 2 pager with the Affinity Suite. It's not as easy to line everything up working on 2 separate pages as it is in Craft Artist. However, Affinity doesn't freeze, struggle with large file sizes or crash on me like Craft Artist does increasingly more with every Windows 10 update. So next time I'll try working on it as one large page instead of 2 side by side pages. https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/april-birthday-2-pager.432101/ Pre-flight Checks I do like the "pre-flight checks" function in Affinity Publisher. When I exported the page I was working on it told me I had spelt something wrong, and had text outside my text box, and suggested fixing it before exporting the document. Recolouring digital stamps/brushes I've learnt how to use the Colour Overlay effect to recolour stamps and brushes, and I've has some more vector drawing practice too. https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/find-peace.433188/ Creating a blending Mask With the Photo Persona I used the Oval Selection tool with a feather of 150px to create a mask for blending the photo in this page. Everything else was done in Publisher https://the-lilypad.com/forum/galleries/blending.433328/ I'm getting quite comfortable now with using Affinity Publisher as my main scrapbooking software, using the Photo or Designer Personas as needed. I now have the option of using psd templates which did not work in Craft Artist. Using psd templates requires me to start with Affinity Photo instead of Publisher. But when I want to add any fancy text I can close the document and reopen it in publisher without any difficulties or need to export/import first. I think I'm going to talk with hubby about purchasing on the 50% off offer that is currently still running.
  22. Used Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher to make a poster for a digital racing event. I´ve used the Adobe software for 12+ years so this is my first project using the Affinity software, it took some time to get used to it but liked it alot! Alle cars where separate screenshots and I've worked them in one image. The main design can be used in several different sizes, like a social media posts or a wallpaper. I've used the same techniques as I used for this poster I made a year ago for the real life counterpart of this racing series. I hope you like the design
  23. Hey folks! I've created a little collection of some flower brushes for AP and AD (Pixel Persona). Hope you like it.
