  1. Love your work AD. Last time I was in the Finger Lakes was in 1974! I'm from the UK but back then my late sister was working in Rochester. I came over to see her plus go to the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, which was held in October so the the trees were turning at the start of Fall. Plus we did a few days of touring afterwards For a photographer the area must be amazing. I'd love to go back
  2. This my first artwork totally using Affinity Designer and Photo. I've converted from Adobe as I'm now retired and just producing pictures for my own pleasure (mainly motor racing). This is the late Carlos Pace's Martini Brabham BT45 at the German GP in 1976. Based on a photo by the brilliant Rainer Schlegelmilch.
  3. There are a few things in Designer that are missing like the blend tool but I agree Affinity is a pretty damn good alternative to Adobe. As for the number on the nosecone, it's at an angle so it faces the timekeepers as the car comes past. If the timing box is on the left the number faces left and right if the box is on the other side of the circuit. It doesn't matter these days as it's all timed electronically. I used to race quite a lot and had the odd telling off for having the numbers facing the wrong way 😀
  4. This is my first completed artwork using Affinity - well 75% Affinity. I retired nearly 2 years ago and recently cancelled my Adobe Subscription so found Affinity to be the best affordable alternative. I have about 20 pictures of race cars that I work on when I feel like it and this is one that I have decided to finish. Not a well known Formula 1 car and this was it's only Grand Prix. The nosecone and a few other bits were designed using Adobe but the rest is Affinity Designer and Photo. My next illustration will be pure Affinity. I hope you like it.
  5. isbuck, I'm new to it myself after working with Adobe for over 25 years. It's good software considering the cost and you can achieve many things that are very similar but I'm finding it works in different ways. It's all trial and error but as I'm now retired I have the time to do that. I'm progressing slowly 🙂
  6. Hi I'm Alan. I'm a retired Technical Illustrator and spent most of the last 30 years working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I've cancelled my Adobe Creative Cloud subscription and switched to Affinity as it's a lot more affordable. So far I'm quite pleased with it as it seems to do most of what I want it to do although often in a slightly different way. One thing that appears to missing is a Blend Tool in Designer. Is this something that is planned for the future? This is the sort of artwork I was creating in Illustrator but it's not so easy in Designer.
