  1. I have Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (latest stable), and I experienced this bug since 1.8 When Artboard is selected and I want to rotate it with "Move tool", it doesn't show the "rotation marker", by which I can rotate it. It appears only when I start moving Artboard with Move tool. Little bug but annoying sometimes, especially when you have lots of content inside artboard! My specs (ask me if you need more): Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4 (latest) MacBook Air 2017 Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (bug comes from 1.8v) Screen_Recording_2020-04-20_at_15_03_20.mov
  2. Hi, I am currently manually stacking a lot of moon shots. Thus i have to move and rotate the layers since the moon moves and rotates slightly. Moving wokes like a charm, but rotating could be a little better. Now I have to grab a corner node to rotate the picture, which makes me see only the very outer edge of the canvas. My suggestion would be to introduce a modifier key so I dont have to grab the node anymore, but could rotate the picture using the mouse anywhere on the canvas. This would allow me to rotate and check simultaniously. With shots like this not only the corner is of interest since the atmosphere distortes the pic all over the canvas and I have to check for the overall matching not only the corner matching. Thanks Matt
  3. When included in a macro, the move tool (Transform) dialog trying to change the 'Scale X' or the 'Scale Y' goes to 1000% when entering any value in the value box.
  4. If a text frame is selected with the Move tool File > Place opens a File/Open dialog that defaults to a file type of "Text files (*.txt...)". In this case it also displays *.docx files. And in this case no other file types are shown in the file-types dropdown menu — when the bug has occurred, that is. A Word file isn't a "text file" (IMO). So that "Text files" file-type item seems misnamed. If a text frame is selected with the Text Frame tool File > Place opens a File/Open dialog that defaults to a file type of "Affinity files" — when the bug has occurred. In this case .docx and .txt files are not displayed by default. In this case, the next file-type item in the dropdown menu is "document files" which does not include files of type .docx. This seems like an omission that could be fixed. A Word doc certainly qualifies as a "document," methinks. In this case (again, when the bug has occurred) you can't see *.docx files in the Open dialog unless you scroll through the dropdown file-type menu and select "Text files" which is now near the bottom of the list. But again, as a Word document is not a "text file", the .docx extension should be added to that item in the dropdown menu. But — when I close and re-open Affinity Publisher, the behavior of the Open dialog (following File > Place) changes for a while. Then, File > Place with the Text Frame tool selected defaults to a file type of "All Documents" — including *.docx and *.txt. At some point during the session with the program, however, for whatever reason the default display of file types in the Open menu changes unpredictably. I don't know how to provide precise repro steps, sorry.
  5. Can Affinity Designer allow the user to use the modifier CMD in Mac temporarily to use the Move Tool? This was so helpful in Illustrator. I find in AD that holding down CMD acdtually shows the Move Tool, but I cannot actually use. This means that when working with a text I must go to tools or use my shortcut, which of course means that I have to use ESC or some other method to exit the text itself. It would be so much easier simply to hold CMD, move the the text box and then release CMD. Perhaps this would not work with Art Text.
  6. Q1: I can't Drag to Select multiple ellipses (each is on its own layer). Is this something in my Snapping Settings? Q2: at the Bottom pop up menu when move tool is active are the following choices: Add to selection; select under; select inside; about center; and then 6 more small icons -- what are these for??? here is what my current Snapping settings are: Note that under Document> Snapping: there are these settings: (is this why I can’t drag/select multiple objects?) Enable Snapping is turned OFF Force Pixel Alignment is turned OFF Preset is set to Custom Candidates is set to Candidates List (greyed out as Enable Snapping is OFF) Show Snapping Candidates is OFF Max Candidates is set to 6; Tolerance is set to 8 Force Pixel Alignment is OFF Move by whole pixels is Blue (ON) Only snap to visible layers is ON Snap to grid is OFF Snap to Guides is ON Snap to Spread is ON Include Spread Midpoints is ON Snap to shape keypoints is OFF Snap to layer geometry is OFF Snap to layer bounding boxes turned ON Include box midpoints: ON Snap to gaps and sizes: OFF
  7. Windows 10 Home 1909, Photo 1.7.3.481 and 1.8.0.526 beta. When I make a selection with the Rectangular Marquee Tool, then change to the Move Tool, I can move the selected pixels but the CTRL (clone) modifier – shown in the status bar – doesn’t seem to do anything. The SHIFT modifier does what I expect but the CTRL modifier doesn’t (see attached GIF). Is this expected behaviour, or am I doing something wrong, or is it a bug, or something else?
  8. Hello, I am using Affinity Designer on Mac (MBP early 2015) with the Huion Ink graphic Tablet. I am practicing isometric art so I created a 1000x1000px artboard and enabled the grid (50px, 8 separations). Placing a rectangle onto the grid plane works just fine but it gets laggy when I want to resize and move it using the move tool. Actually, I've tested a bit: It lags when I am zoomed in and want to move/resize it using the move tool. It does not lag when I am zoomed out (to see the whole artboard) and want to move/resize it using the move tool. Snapping to grid is activated. When it starts to lag, it's due to high CPU usage and also my fan kicks in very quickly. I don't see these kind of issues when I use my MBP trackpad. I am not sure if this is a bug in Affinity, or something with the graphic tablet or some wrong configuration. It definitely degrades the experience of using Affinity Designer but I hope there is a solution to it. Thanks in advance. Phillipp
  9. I've encountered an issue with the Move Tool (Black Cursor Icon) after I've saved my file. Once the file is saved, the move tool only selects the objects but will not drag them/move them. I also am no longer able to resize objects perhaps related to the Move Tool's overall functionality. The only way I am able to resolve this issue is by shutting down the entire program, opening it up again then re-opening the file. This can be very disruptive to my workflow, and I do like to save my files periodically to avoid losing any significant work. The video attached shows me saving a file midway, then no longer being able to move selected objects. Thank you, hope this can be resolved soon! 10. Hi there! Might have pressed something unwillingly, but double clicking on any object no matter which always selects the top layer/object. Have no clue how to fix this. Restarted the program and nothing. I need to mention these layers were brought in from another Designer file. Thanks in advance!
  11. Hi there, I resently have an issue with the Move Tool. I wanted to scale a 1px weight line broader. Only to check if the middle Part is correct. But then I noticed that the broader line was scattert. Here ist the Result. So I tried to work around, sure I can duplikate the line, but thats too laborious. Then I tired it in Gimp with the scale tool. And there I can choose between the diffrent Interpolation. My Question ist now, why I cant do that in Affinity? Here the Gimp Version, how it shoul look like. Hope someone can help me.
  12. I am working in a Designer file with several artboards. I go back and forth between Designer and Pixel persona. Suddenly I cannot select any art I've drawn on pixel layers using the move tool in either persona. I get a thin bounding box (no handles) and the art is locked in place. Other files are not behaving like this. Well, now it's back to working ok and I do not know how I resolved it. I was getting ready to take a screen grab and voila. Can you please explain what happened here? thank you!
  13. Great work with Affinity Photo on iOS! I was doing some editing of textures the other day and found the workflow for lasso selection and moving things around really slow at the moment. I would really appreciate the Move tool being promoted to the Selections persona, and also for the last selected tool on a particular persona to remain selected when switching between personas. I also use a progam called Moi3D which has a great selection tool, if you drag a rectangle from left to right you have to surround entire objects to make them selected, but if you drag from right to left they only have to intersect with objects. This is super useful since you don't have to switch modes via some option like you currently have to do with Photo.
  14. Updated: Fixed, see last line. Hello, Odd behavior experienced: In a particular file I can no longer move-clone items. To be specific, I mean when using the Move tool and you press Ctrl and then drag an item. The expected behavior is to have the item move-cloned. My resulting behavior is the item is simply moved. The erratic behavior is experienced with many kinds of item: tried with curve, shape and pixel. Only in this document. Affinity Photo 1.7.0.367 on Windows 10 Update: found that I had a document-wide pixel selection ongoing (marching ants). Ctrl-D to deselect and now the Move tool works as expected.
  15. Love Affinity Designer. Been using for years. One thing I find routinely irritating when designing UI screens is that the text tool doesn't switch off after deselecting a text layer. Consider the following scenario: 1. Using the Move Tool, you drill into a piece of text that's clipped inside a rectangle. 2. Affinity Designer understands you now want to edit the text tool and automatically switches to the Text Tool. 3. You finish editing the text and deselect it. Now you must manually switch back to the Move Tool to repeat Step #1. I would appreciate a preference (or a new standard behavior) that automatically switches back to the Move Tool in the scenario above. In other words, after the user deselects the text layer whose editing caused the Move Tool to switch to the Text Tool, Affinity Designer should automatically switch back to the Move Tool. Thanks for considering. Love the product.
  16. When I have a lot of nodes in a small space, I am finding it very hard to move a specific node. A lot of times i go to drag a node and it catches the smooth tool right next to it instead. It would be nice if I could use the select tool to select the node or nodes I need to move and then (with move selected) drag from anywhere on the canvas to move the nodes in what ever direction I am swiping. I figured this would already be an option since very often there are multiple nodes in a small space and you cant zoom in too far to separate them because while zoomed, you cant move the node very far but I cant seem to find a way. When I try to drag from anywhere, it ends up selecting a different object instead (I have to drag from directly on the node which means I have to be zoomed in too far to move it where I need).
  17. Let's see how I can describe this. A few times a day in 1.7.0.3 when I'm in the Move tool I select a few layers (by cmd clicking in the layer panel), the display will be showing in the measurement screen. Like I'm holding cmd down, but I'm not. No bounding box. If I move the cursor into where the bounding box would be I just see the selection blue lines like below. Sorry the cursor didn't show in my capture. It was in the middle of the lower circle. Only the 3 circles were selected. If I then left click in this area the multiple layer selection will change to only have one layer selected. I can't move the layers, just change selection. There is no lock applied to these layers, or any in this area of the image. To get proper operation back I just have to play around I haven't found any one thing that releases this action, or causes this action. I believe I have seen this when only one layer was selected also. When using 1.6.1 I've never had this problem. So I don't think it's a sticky cmd key on the keyboard. Has anyone else seen this issue? Anyone have an idea what is causing it?
  18. Hi. Sometimes I need to resize a text frame, and would love that the text inside grow or shrink proportionally to the frame. But it doesn't happen. Am I missing some command for that or Publisher don't allow this? If so, I'd like to ask you guys to consider it. Attached some images showing my problem.
  19. Hi, When editing my vector drawing I would like to use the selection tool to select, transform and move the complete eye including outlines and shadows. The tool only allows to draw a rectangle at 1 of 5 attempts (at the faulty attempts always a whole grouping is moved). As soon as I manage to draw a rectangle, not a single layer is marked, although the settings are set in the global settings (see screenshot). The selector "edit all layers" in Layers Studio is also on. I also tried, after selecting the main group, to reach the other objects and groups by double-tapping, but even in this attempt it was not possible for me to combine all the blacks and gray lines of the eye in one selection. I attach my complex AD file to you. How can I quickly select the eye including shades? This problem costs me a lot of time as I have to search for layers in hundreds of layers as a workaround. Instead of making a change in a minute, it takes a lot of effort. The app is really very good, but the Move tool is currently a showstopper when using it. Best regards Sandra Unbenannt_4.afdesign
  20. I was complaining that I could not drag guides from rulers using the Move Tool, however, I discovered I could using the Node Tool. A Windows user was telling me to use the Move Tool. We decided the Mac and Windows versions don't match in this regard. Guides can be dragged from rulers in both Designer and Photo in the Mac versions, Publisher for Mac is not right.
  21. Hi - Im new to affinity designer (used to illustrator on the desktop), so just getting to grips with how it works. I can’t find any information, including in the tutorials, about the context menu toolbars for the various vector tools (specifically the move and node tools). There is a grid of four symbols on the right hand side of the context toolbar for each of these that don’t have a name or any explanation, can anyone help me with these? I’ve got a feeling they’ll help with precision when drawing and working with vector shapes, but can’t seem to work out what most of them mean??? I’ve worked out that one of them moves the centre point of the shape. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Hi, Is there a way to scale an object without using the handles. At the moment we have to drag on the corners to scale an object up or down. Sometimes I'd like to be able to zoomed in to something else and can't see the handles which makes precision scaling to match something in your drawing difficult. This is because at that point the move tool is selected, so I can move the object without seeing the handles. Is there a modifier key I missed somewhere that turns the move tool into a scale or rotate tool? I don't think there is or I haven't found it after 4 years of use. If not I'll put in a feature request. Something like when holding the command key the move tool turns into scale and holding the option key turns it into a rotate tool when the cursor is over an object. Thanks, Bert
  23. Hello, Is there an easy way to select objects inside groups? I work primarily with vectors, and have many shapes grouped for easy masking. So far, I could select objects inside a group only by using the node tool via holding the node tool modifier key. If I select the node tool from the tools bar, it selects whole groups. The move tool can select objects within a group only if I have a layer from that group selected already. The moment I happen to tap away from any layers thus diselecting them, the move tool cannot select individual layers any more, and selects whole groups instead. I have lots of vector shapes in layers panel, so the only workable way to select what I need have been to select the pen tool from the tools bar, then tap on the right arrow on the context toolbar to get to the modifier keys, hold the node tool modifier, and only then I can select the object. It gets worse if I need to transform several objects, in which case I need to select the move tool each time, and then repeat the whole process to get to the node tool again to select my next object. This has been my experience so far, but maybe I am missing something and there is an easier way to do it. Thanks!
  24. Hi I am pretty sure to migrate from photoshop to Affinity Photo for two reasons: - I can not stand the Adobe policy anymore. - I can see a very active forum for Affinity product, like a lot of good freewares or Vegas Pro. Then, I make my first topic: The Move Tool is not complete: If I drag a complete image holding Crtl, the Move Tool create a duplicate of the image and then I can move it letting the first untouched. Well. But this feature don't works any more if I do the same thing with a selected part, the Ctrl key do nothing. I must before duplicate the selected part doing Crtl+J or Copy and Past. I expect that it works wit a portion of the image too. A lot of software can do that. e.g.: Photoshop can do this holding the Alt key and drag and drop. Pressing Alt keu, even the cursor change appearance. Thank you
  25. When you click on a macro in your Library palette A. Photo always switches to the View tool (the hand) afterwards. This is really not what I usually want. Almost every time I want to use the Move tool. So every time I use a macro I have to manually press V or click on the Move tool icon. It kind of disrupts the flow. Please make it customizable which tool will be activated after clicking a macro. For example, you could add support for tool switching to the Macro editor (so activating any tool would be registered as a step). Or make the program remember the last active tool before using a macro. Or at the very least change the default automatic switching from View tool to Move tool. Similarly I would prefer the Move tool to be activated after I have created a new document. Now it also defaults to the View tool. I can easily navigate the view with the Move tool but I cannot select and manipulate objects on canvas with the View tool. So the Move tool is much more useful as a default. Thank you.
