  1. Hello, It seems that Affinity recognises the Instances in a variable font. That is good. Also the contours of these instances are looking okay! The problems is with the advance width of the glyphs. These stay the same though-out all the instances. That is wrong. The advance width can also be variable and need to be addressed. Hope it helps! Thom
  2. Is there a way ti change the font size of the forums when accessed through Safari on iOS? I cant find a way thanks for your help.
  3. I heard about this font on a podcast last night and thought some people might find this interesting and/or useful. It looks weird but was specifically designed to look like it does for various reasons. Here's the link to the website: https://sansforgetica.rmit/ And here's a link to the podcast: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3cswhfj
  4. Hi Affinity Still love your program I have a request for a feature. Right now I can only choose in the Fontmanager if a font is a favorite or not. So I have the problem that whenever I have to be aware of license issues I either have to look up the font for the license or the way I do it right now is to just put license free once in my favorite tab. I have a number of otions that could be done to solve this. 1. Have an Icon that shows if a font is license free or not 1.1 Best would be if this is set by Affinity itself but that is probably not possible since the license is not part of the font-file itself 1.2 Let the users set the icon themselfs--> Maybe collect the information in a DB to let affinity be able to give the information in the future?? 2. Give the possibility to create your own Font category, this would have the advantedge that you could not only sort your fonts by license / no license but also sort them for different styles like modern, vintage, crazy......whatever you would like to call them. 3. Do both the icon and the license icon, since both information do not exclude themselfs The way I see it there are only different lists behind the buttons --> All, Recent ,Favorite and used. So why not give the opportunity to create more that one of your own lists keep up the good work Peet@MD
  5. Happy new year guys! I am in the middle of creating my first font (handwritten) and use Affinity Designer for designing the digits. However, the process is very tenacious right now. Since I'm new to font development, this is my current approach and setup. I created a document with a growing number of artboards, one artboard for each possible digit, ligature, symbol, and so on. I created each digit using a stroke with slightly varying line widths at the beginning and end. The program into which the digits are imported works with PDF, SVG, EPS among other (to me unknown) file formats – that's okay, because I can output each digit with the export persona named accordingly. SVG is the recommended file format. But I do run into some problems: The exported digit-files MUST NOT be exported as a path with a stroke The exported digit-files MUST consist of a single shape. The exported digit-files (even if points 1. and 2. were taken into account) as SVG are created with a white box in the size of the artboard around them, which lead to another step of selecting and deleting something manually that actually wasn't created in the first place while designing the digit. (The document is set up with the check for Transparent background under the Colour dialogue) I would have guessed now I can select all contents of the different artboards via shift+click in the layers palette and convert them with a single click on "Expand Stroke" - but this is not possible, because the selection is automatically limited to the artboards and not to the children. SelectChildrenOverMultipleArtboards.mov Furthermore, I would have liked to use an action/macro to merge the multiple curves of single letters like A, B, E or F into a single curve - but unfortunately the macro palette only exists in Affinity Photo, if I see it correctly. Does anyone have an idea how to convert the files without all the unnecessary additional effort/tasks? Cheers and have a nice day MrDoodlezz
  6. Not only does the font-size selector not work, but check out its behavior when you manually resize the text: The displayed numeric font size changes as you resize the text, starting with the value you last selected in the drop-down list... even though that selection was ignored. 7. Dear community, I am using the font "Sans Forgetica" (https://sansforgetica.rmit/) which is installed on my laptop. Every time I start Affinity Designer (version 1.6.5.135 on Windows7) and load a file which contains this font, the font cannot be loaded and has disappeared in the font list. After a reinstall of this font, it appears again in the font list... until I close AD and start it again... I can live with that, but it's a bit annoying and I don't know if it's a bug in AD. Regards, nyhet (Julia) from Berlin, Germany
  8. Can somebody tell me if fonts are automatically embedded when exporting to PDF? I can't find anywhere to select 'embed fonts'. Thank you!
  9. Hello! This tiny trouble is something I was facing in the previous version too. Most of the time, if I want to change the font size- I have to manually put the number in. If I use the drop-down menu, it just previews the new size but does not apply it. Is it an error, or am I doing something wrong?
  10. I have a little trouble to remove a font from both AD and AP on the iPad.. I go to the font section of the apps, and hit delete, but after reopening the apps, they are still in the font library in the apps. The reason I want to remove it, is because I'm designing a new font, and I want to put the latest version, to test it in some designs, but the old is still there.. And special tricks to remove fonts from the AD and AP on the iPad?
  11. Hello, Is it possible to create a font with Affinity Designer, and then install it to my Windows 10 PC, and use it in Microsoft Word or other applications? (Without paying for a third party software) Thank you
  12. I notice that this is a bit of glitchiness on the font display in Affinity Publisher 1.7.0.162. When you select a font there is a shaded area on top. I didn't really care about that before but not it shows duplicates of files that are activated. I checked to see if there was a problem with the font but in Designer it works perfectly - only one font family is listed. Please see images of Affinity Designer with that single font. Also please see that Affinity Publisher top list shows the duplicate while the scroll list on Publisher shows only one listing on the font. Hard to really explain. Please see images. The font in question here is Wolpe Fanfare but I have seen this issue with a few other fonts (and they are correctly installed and work perfectly in Designer).
  13. Hi. Sometimes I need to resize a text frame, and would love that the text inside grow or shrink proportionally to the frame. But it doesn't happen. Am I missing some command for that or Publisher don't allow this? If so, I'd like to ask you guys to consider it. Attached some images showing my problem.
  14. Hey there, I deleted Adobe Illustrator from my pc and started using Affinity Designer. I'm already getting used to it, but one questions for now remains: How do I hatch fonts/letters with a certain pattern (see attached picture as example, Letter "O" pattern) Thank you in advance.
  15. Hyphenation works (german language), but the hyphens are not displayed or printed, when I use PS Type 1 fonts (TheSans). With TrueType or OpenType all works fine.
  16. Hello, Previously I bought Serif Page Plus X9. This a great program as long as you use latin alphabet based font. However, in my work I need to use CTL fonts, especially Khmer (Cambodian) Unicode Fonts and it is not to possible to write any words with Page Plus X9. Now I try Affinity Publisher and it is not possible to make any documents with CTL Unicode Fonts too. Is there any possibility to fix this problem in another version of the program?
  17. Hallo, Coming from Adobe creative suite after many years, especially photoshop and indesign I was so happy to stumble upon Affinity. Really excited by these guys at Serif. Anyway, I have a large indesign project which I need to re-create completely in Affinity publisher, and a minor part was copying some hebrew text (NewPeninimMT) and Adobe Caslon Pro font into Affinity. I did not expect them to display and expected the hebrew to give me a whole load of boring squares as is usual in other pieces of software and in indesign when I first tried it many years ago. But it displayed perfectly. The font box, however, did insert a question mark before the font name. The font list in affinity did not have either of these fonts and neither does my microsoft system, there are none stored at this time. Strange that it displayed at all.
  18. I updated Mac font library to include a new font. Switching back to Publisher, the app had a popup messaging about "updating the font library". I was unable to click anywhere on the app, or cancel said update. It remained like this for several minutes before I forced quit the app. Sorry Id isn't take a screenshot. Didn't think of doing this until after I restarted the program.
  19. I'm not sure if this is a bug, a feature that might need improving, or me missing how this works. I usually check my documents to make sure no stray fonts managed to get in, perhaps as an invisible character. I'm not clear as to what should happen when I select a font that I don't want and then click 'Locate'. It seems to take me to the page, but I was expecting the text with the font in question to become highlighted. I said, it seems to take me…, but as I click on other fonts in the list, the pages don't always change. Since the text does not seem to be getting highlighted, I'm not sure if this feature is working correctly. I just did a little experimenting. I changed some text to a different font not used in the document. Locate found the usage and highlighted it, however, I had Text Rulers on and the highlighted text was under the ruler so it was obscured. Other fonts in the Font Manager list that are stray do not get located. While experimenting, another font appeared in the list. Selecting that one and clicking the locate button also did not show anything. Where would these odd fonts be? On second thought, perhaps there is a bug in here somewhere. Separate Locate Next and Locate Previous might be handy. I notice that Undo and Redo can go backward and forward, but if you make another edit, Undo would be problematic. I don't know if a Locate All feature could work in some way. Then a 'Change All Instances', or 'Change Selected' would be a time saver for a very long document. Would a locate only in current text box and linked text boxes option be useful? How about, 'Exclude Placed Graphics', since AD files could be searched too and one would not want to change the font in a logo or other important graphic.
  20. Placed (not opened) a PDF on an empty page. Worked well, but Publisher replaced a font (CopperBlack, which is not installed on my system) by Lucida Grande without warning. If you need the original PDF to analyze, please PM.
  21. Chinese input error : When the Chinese is input, the subtitle will cause the garbled, and the Chinese can not input normally.
  22. In other DTP applications I've used, sometimes there are fonts that cannot be embedded for whatever reason. The usual reason is because they have copyright/license restrictions, but there are others that don't come to mind at the moment. The other DTP software outlines - converts to vectors - these fonts. I was wondering what Publisher did with fonts like these. Does it outline the text or do something else? I've had a look around the Help, various dialogs, and this forum and can't find anything related to embedding/outlining fonts. Also, on a related note, is there a way to force Publisher to outline either everything in a particular font, or a specific piece of text, or the contents of a specific text frame? I ask this question as I sometimes want to have certain text outlined so that non-human readers can't read the text - e.g. phone numbers, email addresses, etc. In other software I've used a specific font for these items and then told the software to outline everything that uses these fonts. I could manually convert certain items to curves but that's a bit awkward, especially for editing purposes. (Also, sometimes I find that a certain browser/PDF-reader has trouble with a certain fonts when they are embedded so I use outlining for this reason too.)
  23. Hello, buddies! I have quite a hard time managing and changing fonts in both AP and AD, but one of the features I miss the most is the possibility to filter all my fonts to their specific families: serif, slab serif, sans, script, decorative, etc. Is it possible to be done? If not, will it be implemented? Also, is there any way of changing font size clicking 'n' dragging in the icon, like Photoshop? The only solution I've found so far to ease the size modification (as defined numbers aren't really a big help) is assigning the commands to increase and decrease to shortcuts, like Ctrl+Alt+>. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks.
  24. Finally we got it what we've been waiting for.. Thank you Affinity. On the first start I found some visually issues. Like the UI font's are too pixelated in windows 10. I've used both AP and AD on mac, but downloaded this Publisher on Windows as trial. please check the screenshot I attached, the left is Photoshop and on the right Publisher. I didn't check any performance or functional thing. this was the first thing I found apparently.
  25. Hi, Do you plan to make Affinity Designer any better while working with fonts? (So much vital for pro users) What about integration with Font Managers out there (Linotype's Font Explorer, Suitcase and so...) I am installing fonts with Font Explorer X Pro. Those fonts do not show in Affinity D (no plugin) Manual font activation in Affinity D is so much annoying. Thanks
