  1. Hello, While painting, one of my biggest concerns since always has been that due to the nature of the engine, the whole canvas' pixels would kind of vibrate/pixelate or move around somehow, for I believe, engine optimization reasons. While I see it fine (and common in other apps) when zooming, while just laying brush strokes, painting, I quite very much dislike it. Still, am painting now with Photo .293 customer beta, and I'm not noticing any of these effects. Has that been -happily- removed, this optimization? Or it just depends on the case or illustration, and I might not be noticing now ? Would be important to know this. Everything is working great. Is performing really (outstandingly, even) fast on a really large canvas (yes, in this bad machine). But wouldn't love to find out the "effect" appears in some situations later on, or gets noticeable then. Thank you.
  2. So there's a setting in Photoshop called transfer that I use religiously. Is there a setting in Affinity (or is a setting being planned in a future update) that I can use that would produce something similar?? I found another thread about this but I'm looking for more recent answers.... I tried setting "flow" to be affected by pen pressure, but the result is too different from what I'm looking for. I'd also be okay with a Photoshop plugin of... some sort, that might allow me to do something similar... I'm just so desperate for Affinity Photo to replace Photoshop for me. I refuse to pay monthly for something I wouldn't use monthly! Anything helps
  3. texture brushes have always been a bit of a hassle to make, and I am really digging your brush UI over PS's. Something that would be really cool and handy as an artist making brushes on the fly would be to allow me to, instead of making and saving a file for the brush head, just let me draw it in the box you have under base texture and take it from there. Even better, let me go back and edit that brush head later as is needed. This would be absolutely amazing for work flow, and it's something I haven't seen yet. I'm a couple days into the trial and loving this software, please keep it up!
  4. I have created custom image brushes (both in black and in white) on a transparent background. Using the Paint Brush Tool, they paint ONLY in the color they were created (black or white). I am unable to change them so they would pain in any other color. All other brushes, do change color as expected. How can I correct this so I can use the custom brushes with other colors? What am I doing wrong? Mac OS 10.13.6, Affinity Photo 1.6.7
  5. I would like to know if it is possible to add masked options for the sub brush feature. Basically like dual brush in Photoshop or masked brush in Krita, where the sub brushes will be masked to the shape of the main brush, and won't exceed the edge of the main brush. I think the closer comparison would be Paintstorm Studio, as Paintstorm's double brush allows two brush to be drawn at the same time, and there is an option to mask the second brush to the first brush. Maybe, for the masked brush, there can be options to use blending modes when merging the brush together, as I'm not sure if it is doable currently.
  6. Hee guys, I am new here, fairly new to the Affinity Designer program. I'm running into a little problem over here about brushes. When I'm in pixel mode and try to change the hardness of my brush into a softer brush, the brush won't change hardness.. Anyone got a tip for me? Thanks in advance
  7. I would like to see some improvements to the brush engine in the affinity programs. I have been using the latest beta, but was disappointed that there seems to be hardly any improvement in this area. The most prominent bug has to do with the custom wet edges setting. Many lovely dynamic brushes have these, but these properties do not work when erasing: so when I want to use the same brush to erase (which is my normal workflow, paint/erase with the same brush) the brush is completely different, soft and blurry. I find this to be very annoying when trying to use AD or APh for drawing and painting. I have to create a workaround with masks or switch to a hard normal eraser, which does not look as nice. A related bug is that when I switch back from eraser to brush, the wet edges setting of the brush does not work, and I get a soft blurry brush. I have to switch back and forth between brushes for the real brush look. I really hope you can improve this, as it is pretty groundwork stuff when using these apps for raster illustration. The brush engine has potential, but this is holding it back. I use an iMac 2011 with 12 GB ram, el Capitan (no Metal) and and iPad Pro 12.9 PS I posted this in the normal suggestions section, but got no response, so I hope someone from Serif can respond here....
  8. Like the title say it is simple. I applied a vignette live filter and started to erase excess using brush tool with black color but APhoto crashed, it did happened twice on a normal JPEG file. Maybe it is a known bug for this beta, would be great to have it fixed. Blessings
  9. Hi there ! I don't know if it's already been asked but I wonder if there's a way to make both AD and AP "remember" the current brush used ? I mean if I select a brush to work and only change its size, for example, it's not highlighted anymore in the brush panel… And I think it would be a cool feature ! Hope you see what I mean. Regards, Cédric
  10. Hello, Sorry for more topics about features. Can we please request a RMB feature for Brushes? It would be good for productivity if RMB opened a quick access to the brush width , opacity, flow and hardness values? Or a Keyboard shortcut like CTRL + ALT + LMB to change the size and hardness of the brushes in real time? Similar to what Photoshop has. Thank you
  11. I created a halftone texture brush in designer but it's not working as expected. If go over the same spot with the brush; the transparent pixels get darker until it is a black square. I want it to stay circular halftone. Left: what I get when I go over an area once. Right: What I get when I go over an area multiple times. No matter how many times I go over an area I want it to stay like the one on the left. I have to start over everytime I go over an area more than once. Texture brushes should not accumulate layers. My texture brush image is included in the attachments and these are my brush settings.
  12. Paolo here. aka the picture guy. I bought the Affinity Photo app within the first 2 weeks of its release. I’ve been watching the tutorials and have been following along to learn..... But when they get to inpainting i noticed i do not have the brush on the right hand side. When i click on the bandaid, it doesn’t give any choices, and when i used help, it shows inpainting under edit, but it is not highlighted so it won’t turn on. This was one of the features i have been looking forward to most, and i don’t even have ! HELP!!
  13. Is there a way to alphebetize (or at least make categories) the list of brushes? (Or maybe I have too many brushes )
  14. Hello, I've performed a search for this to see if someone may have a solution but couldn't find anything so I'll post my question. Apologies if this has already been answered. I'm beginning my gradual migration from Photoshop to Photo and I thought I've begin to sketch out an interior space for a client using Photo instead of Photoshop. In sketching out the space I would like to draw simple straight lines as is possible in Photoshop - hold Shift click with the pen where you'd like line to begin and where you'd like it to end. In Photo it always works from the last drawn line or seemingly where the tablet has last detected the stylus leading to undesired results. Is there a way to configure it so that it performs like Photoshop or an alternative that permits the freehand drawing of straight lines without having the line begin from the last point of contact. As it stands the straight line option via the Shift key is unusable. I've adjusted the sensitivity of my Cintiq but to no avail. Is there perhaps something I'm missing? Thanks -grant
  15. I'm trying to draw this tree (PSD attached) and you can see that the branches and dark grey area are clipped into the orange layer. I used a vector brush stroke to create the branches and after I export them to Photoshop, they're rasterized. Is it because of the masking or is it because it's a stroke? Also, not sure why the dark grey area rasterized as well. Are there other ways I could have done this differently? Sorry if it's not my best description - I'm just confused. Untitled (1).psd
  16. Hey guys, a simple tutorial that shows how you can create custom pattern brushes that you can use for creating borders or decorations. My Youtube Channel
  17. When I zoom out the canvas in both AD and AP I get wavy lines when using the brush tool, not super noticeable but still annoying. But when I zoom in the canvas the lines don't seem to have this problemas. I also tested in Clip Studio but didn't get any wavyness. I use a Cintiq. Also I have been experiencing Lag.
  18. Hi all, I noticed that the brush rotation is limited to 50% in the slider, but you can write up to 100% in the input field, I think the slider should allowed to drag it until 100% as well. Is this intended? Cheers, Juan
  19. Leprechaun 2019 Initial inking This is the first in a series of videos detailing my process of vector inking my shirt design for the upcoming St Patrick's Day 5k. In these first two steps, I trace my approved sketch with a tapered vector brush in Affinity Designer, intentionally overlapping my lines so that in step two, I can divide them where they cross and delete away the excess portions. I've been making an effort to do more and more of my workflow in Affinity Designer instead of my standard Illustrator app so part of this process was exploration and trying out new tools and methods. I'm still hoping we get an eraser and a blob tool (amongst other features) to make this process a little easier. Also - the combine boolean leaves behind a TON of nodes in its wake... is that something being addressed?
  20. Hello, I apologize if this has been asked before, In affinity designer when I'm using the brush tool it always creates a new layer when i release the mouse key which is a bit of an annoyance. I wanted to ask if theres any way to change this so its always on the same layer similar to Illustrator.
  21. Hi! I've just installed the trial for the desktop Affinity Designer to give the software and vector drawing a try but I'm experiencing issues with pressure sensitivity. I'm on OSX Mojave, Affinity 1.6.5, using an XP-Pen tablet. The pressure sensitivity setting is turned on, and the pressure works fine in other applications (AI, PS, etc.). Some oddities are once the Pressure controller is turned on, the size of the brush drops down to its default smallest size but None changes it to the set default size (e.g. 32px). I thought perhaps I wasn't pressing hard enough so I went to the highest size but it made no difference. Lastly, it creates strange patterns if I continue to hold the drawing for a moment at the start of the stroke, which you can see in the attached image. I've tried relaunching, and restarting. Any ideas? So far, this is a bummer to start but I'm hoping it can be fixed. Thanks!
  22. Just downloaded the trial and having a play around with it. The tools I miss from adobe illustrator are the blob brush and live paint. I did a quick forum search and there doesn't seem to be many people suggesting the same tools for the desktop version. They are not on the roadmap so how likely are they going to make it into a future release? Affinity Designer is a great programme and I can achieve the same results without these tools but they would be a HUGE time saver and a deal sealer for me as an illustrator.
  23. Hi! I have a question. I am using Affinity Photo for not a very long time yet. Today I realized that if I make a stroke, lift the stylus and give it a once over it like wipes itself off. It turns white again. How can I change that?
  24. After downloading the newest beta 1.7.0.3 I noticed that the Brush related UI hasn’t changed in several years and would like to suggest some productivity improvements. This is my situation. I am looking for a way to identify and switch to a brush quickly and easily from both the Brush menu(s) AND by means of clicking a brush stroke in an image. I have at this point, hundreds (and hundreds) of custom brushes. The previews of these brushes are in some cases very similar. I need a faster way to identify a Brush that may be stored in any of a large number of collections without having to hunt for the brush thru trial and error. My productivity problem: The sheer number of brushes I have makes searching for a specific brush from among many collections an extremely time-consuming task. Here is my first suggestion: Missing from the Brush palette is an easy way to spot a brush by name. Where the Brush palette shows a visual preview of the look of the brush and a size indication on the left, having the name of the brush appear in the palette would be far more helpful than the default size listed for quickly identifying a specific brush. See example: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr04.jpg Being able to identify a brush in the Brush palette - by name - would make hunting for brushes in the Brush palette a little less time consuming However... My real desire would be the ability to do a fast switch to a Brush from a selection of the stroke that is already in a piece of art. I may be missing something that may have been changed in the newest beta - but what I still find is this: If I click on a stroke applied to the "canvas" I do see an indicator of the brushes identity in the menus top left. See upper portion of this image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr01.jpg A small preview of the brush. Clicking on this brings up a nice editing shortcut - but… This mini palette does not tell me what the brushes name is - nor does it give me an option to switch to the indicated brush See image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr02.jpg If I click then click the Properties button in this mini menu I do get a more involved Brush Editing menu - But - this menu also does not have the brushes name. See image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr03.jpg This is odd because the Brush Edit menu from the Brushes menu does have the name. This editing menu seems to be a different version of the full Brush editing menu. See image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr05.jpg Nor is there any option to switch to the selected brush from this Edit menu. Second suggestion: What I would like to see would be a way (or tool) to select a Brush stroke already applied to the “canvas” and have the brush both identified (named in all Brush menus) and the brush tools attributes switch to those of the selected brush stroke. Select stroke. Brush (tool) changes to (inheruts) the selected stokes attributes. Be able to immediately draw with those attributes. This fast switch would be a MAJOR productivity enhancement and time saver. If this feature doesn't exist - I would dearly love to have it added. Either in the form of a new selection tool addition or as something similar to the functionality of the Freehand tool or arrow tool in the application Expression3/Microsoft Expression Design. In those versions of the application, click (tap) a brush stroke on the “canvas” with the Freehand Pen or arrow selection tool and the tools attributes immediately switch to the clicked objects attributes. An example of why this would be useful. If I have several brushes in use in a drawing and want to use one of the strokes in my drawing... Just clicking on the stroke would switch me to the Brush. The drawn stroke would double as a palette and the file could even double as a Brush category - saving tons of time that is presently lost hunting up a brush in the Brushes/brush collections menus. Thanks Craig
